Now that one was truly incredible! Just proves you never know with these old cars. Probably better than 90% of people would have taken a look, and said no way it will run. Let alone run that well, surprised even me how smooth it was. This one was a definite win!

This was awesome! Loved when the valve came unstuck and she settled into that purr! I'm sure you know this, but these four door convertibles (phaetons?) usually have terrible body sag or break in half due to frame rust. The fact that the doors open and close so easily is a good sign. Go Iron Trap, keep moving forward!

Sweet find.packing peanuts are the bain of existence. With all of the clean outs you guys do you should look into a dust separator. It will help the vac live longer and be easier to clean. Home Depot has one that goes on top of a 5gallon bucket that I use and it works pretty well . Can't wait to see more on this 39

Someone put a lot of care into that one . That engine ran too smooth for "Just park it because it doesn't run anymore ." Excellent find ! Glad it didn't get scrapped . Unlike most of the cars you get , this one was actually in really good shape . It would not surprise me if it is as solid underneath , as it was in the engine . That was really something to see . Very smooth , & responsive . It will probably run better as you go . Can't wait to see a test drive . Nice find , ITG ! Have a nice Thanksgiving , folks !

19:06 How do you check compression when the carb is capped off?
@willymccoy3427 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering about that too and just figured it might be a flathead thing.
@RichieCat4223 Жыл бұрын
It's not a flathead thing. To check compression correctly your air intake is unrestricted. Choke and throttle fully opened when cranking the engine.@@willymccoy3427

My take is that engine is it is near new. It was a lot of fun watching you two get it going. In my part of the Country, Northern BC, anything like that would have had worn out crank bearings and piston rings. (My dad was an auto mechanic, so he knew if a vehicle was running properly.)You would have seen nothing, but blue smoke and a banging rod bearing. I remember, my folks having a 49 Ford convertible. I loved riding, along with my little brother, in the back seat shooting prairie chickens.

Awesome video every time I watch your show it brings me back to my early teen years and my 35 ford Pickup I put Hydraulic brakes on and completely rewired it with help of my neighbor rebuilt a 59AB b;lock and put a merc crank in it offy heads a dual coil distributor a offy twin carb intake with two 97s took the stock fly wheel into shop class in HS cut a lot of weight off the clutch ridge and she did run good I did this between the age of 15 to 17 and never took picture one that wasn't important to me in 1956 now I wish I had I took the Lovered half of my hood off and an it that way ,this is why your program means so much to me this was my youth from 12 to 18 ,I sold the truck before I went into the Air Force and regret that to this day there was no place to store it .

In the past I did cover the ceiling plastic or metal with 1/2" foam then covered that with white vinyl and used the metal buttons with metal base backings screwed onto the vinyl. Paint the button covers white and pop them onto the base. It gives a tuck and padded look that looks like a million dollars. All of the materials and button covers are available at Joann Fabrics. It doesn't take much time to do with the 2 of you guys doing it, just saying.

I use to have a old 48 ford that had a flat head in it and had the dist. down on the front of the engine... I also worked for a farmer in Oklahoma and he let me drive a 49 or 50 Ford flat head to work at harvest time, the flat head ran great. They are known to vapor lock in the heat. Putting a 8 volt battery in is alot better than the 6 volt, you have to set the regulator for the 8 volt. Unless you want to change everything over to 12 volts, but it wouldn't be origional... Lots of work to do buddy!

I cannot believe that started. That engine looks like it's been through Godzilla's digestive tract. Rust, grime and worse, yet we all heard that cough and near-start when you first cranked it with the new carburetor. That's the best advertisement for the flathead V8 since 1939.
