While yes, O3 will oxidize metals... it's the nitric acid* that so vigorously rusts metals and yellows plastics. If you use extremely dry air, it can be mitigated somewhat but, the only way to get pure O3 is with an O2-fed Ozone generator. (Which is a far-greater invitation of danger, than these simple and effective lil units.) *majority-component nitrogen in air, ionized-oxidized; then preferentially bonding with moisture (water) to form nitric acid.

I've never run my ozone generator for 3 hours straight 😱 I usually run it at intervals...30 mins on, 1 hour off and repeat if neccessary. I'd be interested to see what ozone does to metal when run at shorter intervals vs the 3 hour long haul...especially since ozone is an ideal application for car odor. I've yet to use it in my vehicle and (in the interest of my marriage) would like to know how metal (or any other material) would fare with shorter spurts of time. Thanks Zach!

I have the exact same ozone generator. I'm curious what it does to electronics when used sensibly in the home as well as in an automobile.

It oxidizes stuff, by definition. In your home the o3 concentration will be very low, compared to o2, so i don't think it will cause any harm to electronics if used sensibly. But in a car it depends what car it is. I wouldn't use it in an older car that's prone to rust anyway.

Funny, all of a sudden the metal hinges on my small travel trailer have gone rusty after nothing for the first decade of ownership. I mean very bad rust and the only thing is I've been generously using a generator in the rig for smells and mold prevention. I'm pretty sure it caused the hinges to go bad. Lesson learned.

How often are you running it? I don't think these are meant to be used in a bag for 3 hrs as Zach did or often as a deodorzer daily. They are for one (or maybe a few uses if required to get rid of the smell) time use such as moving into a smokers house or car, etc. Obviously if they are not used as intended there will be ramifications.

I kinda wanna see this turned into some form of destructive device... Like hook it up to a metal shelving system and see how long it takes for it to have it fall from what I believe is known as mechanical failure. Though my knowledge of which kind of failure things are classified under is minimal at best.

Books, please! I'm a book lover and can't stand the thought of tossing my books, but would sheets of paper become more fragile? If you leave them closed will the ozone be effective or is it better to fan out the pages?

Does anyone know of an online resource that lists out what happens to various materials when exposed to different doses, durations and frequencies of ozone? Will plastic crack or polyester upholstery break down after 1 hr of 2000g/hr ozone treatment once a month for 2 years when used to sanitize a car of mold, pollen, allergens?

Was the ozone generator only circulating air that was already in the bag or was the inlet of the generator open to ambient air. If so, an equivalent sized fan in the other bag might be appropriate. Am curious of the relative humidity of the day. Our curious if the test would differ if it was run in a dark interior closet.

I wouldnt use with pc in the room unless you cover and seal it in plastic. It will break down things in the pc. They recommend you empty rooms when using ozone generator.

@@ZachFields Aluminum has a protective oxide coating on it that should block the ozone from attacking the metal so I'm guessing that nothing will happen.

Sorry but that is a complete failure. You are introducing the humidity directly into the ozone generator. Maybe try it again and leave one piece outside of a bag.
