The meat comes from your butcher if something is wrong with the meat then it will affect the humans too. If the meat is clean kosher from a butcher with clean meat; then there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the info. I will say fecal tests aren't always accurate and they do not test for toxoplasmosis...that is a separate test. Just wanted to put that out there. However we are transitioning to a raw food diet for our cats because of the nutrional benefits.

Ha! I've seen my indoor/outdoor guy eat disgusting rotten chicken he found on the ground, &, drink out of muddy puddles. I'm not particularly worried about the sanitized meat I buy for his raw diet at the grocery stores. He's never been sick a day in his life.

Toxoplasma gondi is a real concern since felines are the only host where they actually reproduce themselves. As for humans the highest chance to contact is by cleaning a litter box. There's no actual medication that kills it in a host and once contracted it stays in the host for life. To get rid of it in the meat you'll need either high temperature like 140F or above or low temperature 0F or lower. Looks like freezing raw meat prior to feeding it to your cat should help - the only problem is that regular freezers have higher than 0 temperature. As a raw diet feeder I would like to hear or read your thoughts on this. Like your videos - very helpful! They inspired me to try to make a raw food myself instead of using commercial raw food and my cats love it.

I mean toxoplasmosis isn't something to worry about in humans unless your a pregnant woman or immunocompromised. Otherwise it's a relatively mild self limiting infection that the immune system manages on its own. A lot of people probably never realize they've had it due to how mild the symptoms can be. Coming into contact with cats isn't the only way of catching it either. Gardening is another way of acquiring that infection.

Whoever said they’d feed their cat friskies should really do research about cats because with all the preservatives, colorings, and other harmful unnecessary ingredients in store brought cat food a raw diet is beyond amazing for cats from the smell of their poop, correcting any/all stomach unbalances, and helping to control hairballs a raw diet for cats is essentially farm to table dining! I think you should challenge that person to research all the ingredients of friskies and pronounce them all correctly, then post how these ingredients are healthy for a cat! I love my cats they’ve brought unimaginable joy to me in the darkest time of my life (and I’m a dog person, husbands a groomer and mom owns a dog daycare resort). These noble amazing snuggle buddies deserve nothing but THE BEST!

Would freezing the raw food help with killing any type of worms or their eggs. Yes annual testing is ideal and needed. I have 4 cats all rescues and soon a scottie puppy 9 weeks old. I will be bringing my puppy to the vet when I bring her home the breeder is up on her shots and worming but a visit to the vet needed. I am transitioning my cats to raw as we speak cross fingers it will be an easy change.

If you guys try to make your raw diet, be sure to know what you are doing. An imbalance nutritional diet can deteriorate your cat health, and becareful how you or your butcher process the raw meat due to salmonella. I would say keep feeding your cat canned food, if you aren’t sure what you are doing. Talk to your vet before making such diet, otherwise, you will see your vet anyways when you have a sick cat. When the youtuber says your cat should eat like a wild cat eats, the cats in the wild don’t live as long as the indoor cat. One lives 3-5 years verses one lives 15+ years. So the argument is kinda flawed. Unless the wild cats can live as long or same as the indoor cats, then she can make such argument. FYI... she isn’t a vet, so you shouldn’t seek medical advice from her.

Washing all the meats in vinegar and water solves the bacteria problem pretty well for me. It's worth a try. We can inform our vets that we are trying these recipes and ask them to do blood work and test the cat to make sure that they're balanced. I think the bacteria threat is way too overhyped. Just wash the damn meat 😂

I'm on my way to transition my cat to raw foods. Just purchased Darwin's raw food to start off. I don't really have the time to make the food myself and idk what type of shit to buy so they got me covered I hope! Wish me and my cat luck y'all!!! My cat has been suffering from ibd symptoms for 4 months and it's from a food allergy aka he's addicted to dry kibble. I hope he forgives me one day. It sucks he makes it harder because he STILL loves the shit out of me. I can't stop apologizing to him for failing him.

I did Darwin's for a year before making my own. I loved everything about it! Just make sure to change the base protein of their food every couple of months. The more often you change the food they eat, the less likely they are to develop an allergy to any of it. (Dr. Becker here on youtube could get you a full explanation if you would like!) I hope your kitty enjoys!!

It's all right man, a lot of us have made this similar journey. It was my cat's sickness that pushed me to this diet as well. Do what you have to do and just be open and continue learning. If you ever eventually decide to make your own cat food, it'll end up being even cheaper for you. You can just continue watching videos and reading articles and learning on your own time. I have a plan to feed my future cat raw lamb, rabbit, and beef. *However*, I'd much rather prefer to use chicken but I worry about bacteria like salmonella. Is there a risk to feeding raw chicken to your cat? And if so how can I lower the risk?

You can wash your meat and white vinegar and water. That helps to kill bacteria. I grew up in the islands and we always wash our meat this way, I was amazed to find out that many Americans don't wash their meat, gross!! 😆 You can also consider feeding them frozen prey intended for snakes. Things like mice and chicks. That is the most balanced and ideal since that's their natural prey. They can have some lamb and cow but personally I'm not sure of the long term implications of feeding them and animal they don't normally eat in the wild. I normally give them little slivers of that as a snack. You can try it and then have your vet test their blood and make sure their system is balanced and you can share info on how it worked out for you. We always need more information added to this knowledge base 👍

I saw a DIY for a 50/50 apple cider vinegar and water solution put in a spray bottle and spray the animal down from head to toe, cover their eyes of course. Apparently bugs hate vinegar, it burns. You can also put a little apple cider vinegar in the food and it can get any internal parasites. I'm not an expert but it is worth a try and you can always check if it works with a vet test.

My cat Dora (not a breed) lived 23 years (I know it is rare) by only eating dry food. Reputable brands mostly. My last dog Suzi (chihuahua) 20 years. So those 2 examples are enough for me to feed my 2 Maine coon kittens only dry food. I take my experience example seriously because they reached beyond the limits of the lifespan that a cat and dog can live according to the written data... I don't remember them ill, obese, non energetic etc. Just healthy, active and happy.

Just because the occasional dog or cat lives a long and (debatably) healthy life on nutritionally devoid dry food, doesn't discount the fact that the majority of dogs and cats suffer with chronic illness and die young on commercial dog and cat foods. That's like saying, "my grandpa smoked two packs a day and lived to 99, so I'm going to take up smoking and live to 99 too."

It’s like saying yeah some human will also get away with eating only chicken nuggets no problem and live long till the day they die peacefully. But you do the math here, if you are not the lucky one then it’s definitely game over for you… common sense a healthy balanced nutritious meal with plenty of water is the way to live longer, this rule applies to any animals

My little guy has IBD and when I asked the vet about a raw food diet she said it was a bad idea cause of the bacteria in the poop. Still trying to find a good food for him that will not make him throw up. I want him to be happy and healthy.

I have a very important question regarding taurine. I just bought taurine only to find out what said 100% taurine had a filler, maltodextrine. Does your taurine have maltodextrine in it as well. If not, please tell me what company yours comes from. Please let me know either way. Maltodextrine is a sugar used as a filler in a lot of things. I keto I don't use this myself, because, it is bad for you. Why would I want my pet having the dastardly chemical. Shame on them 100% should be 100%.

Fish is very high in phosphorous and iodine. It can also cause a thiamine deficiency. It's not a good idea to feed it as the bulk of a cat's diet.

If it fits into your budget and nutritional standards with the ingredients then go for it! Same with a supplement premix! They both certainly save you time and are better than any commercial dry/canned foods 😻 hope that helps!

Loved this video. If you are using 'Revolution' flea stuff it handles most intestinal parasites as well; other than tape worms which needs tape worm med. Keep your cat indoors only, use revolution med at times, and feed the best food you can i.e. raw cat food. I feed a mix of wet kitty food and raw homemade with supplements. I still can't find chicken hearts. So, I feed chicken thighs, the best grass fed beef or lamb, a small amount of liver because of too much vitamin A in it, egg yolks, egg shell powder, lysine for immune and her teeth, sambucol for immune support, B vitamins, a probiotic, some salmon oil, and organic pumpkin for extra fiber. Bella looks good and plays alot more and seems happy. She comes to me and says, 'I wanna eat, momma'. No free grazing anymore. Your videos have been extremely helpful. She's a calico dilute and very beautiful. She was born feral, but, since I've just lost Buzzy of 14 years, she is warming up a little more. Buzzy wanted to be held all the time, Bella does not. But, when I'm laying down on the bed she will crawl on top of me like, 'if you don't grab me I'll sit with you'. Wish I could grind bone; doing the best I can.
