I'm sure there are tons of old people out of the 7 billion+ on this planet who have actually done that. Hell, I recently saw a guy in his late 70's or early 80's who had an entire cab setup for American Truck Simulator, and I've seen the same with Microsoft Flight Sim. If they can build a cockpit or truck cab and then install everything properly, they could def get a Windows emulator. Believe it or not, there are old people who grew up with and worked on computers since the 1950's, and some of them continued to work on computers from then up to now. My now passed grandfather worked on and operated one of the first big computers while in the Navy in the 50's, and it was called a Facsimile Machine. NASA Apollo engineers would also be able to use modern day computers, even if there was a learning curve.

By the way, I'm only 33 but don't know jack about programming or code. I can install programs and games, move and copy files around, and I've even installed PS1 and PS2 emulators, but that's basically the extent of my knowledge, and I've had a computer since the dial up days back in 1998.

@@Rokaize They target people who are not tech-savvy, show them advanced looking things they don't understand (or make something up) and claim it's a huge security issue. Then charge large amounts of money for "fixing" it. Another variant is guilt-baiting, where the scammers make the non-tech-savvy victims feel like they messed up in some way and then demand a "correction", which involves sending a lot of money. A lot of honest elderly people can fall for that. For example they can call about a 50 dollar refund but make it seem like 500 was sent instead while processing it (all fake). I did this to a Microsoft scammer once. I was playing around with Windows 3.11 (because it's the first windows with built in networking) in a VM and a scammer called. I played the role of an old man. When the technician started telling me where to go, I kept saying that I can't find what he's saying...This went on for almost 2 hours and escalated up the chain to 4 different techs. Finally, the boss got on the phone and said that Windows 3.11 was too old and that I needed to upgrade. Still playing the old man, I said, "well, you're Microsoft, right? So why don't you upgrade me now while we're on the phone. I'll pay you. I got my credit card right here". He hated me telling me that because that meant I was an easy mark, but they had no way to take my money that I was so readily to part with. He kept telling me that I needed to buy a new computer. I said, why, when this one works perfectly fine. I don't need the newest and latest of everything...I told him that my 1950 Buick Roadmaster was still running great from when I bought it new. My 1949 Zenith Refrigerator still works and my Philco TV still gets the local channels! I said that's the problem with you young folk...don't know the value of things because you don't keep them long enough to value them! He insisted that he can't work on my computer because it's too old! I said, that it wasn't too old when I bought it in 1994! I said that I got a free copy of Lotus 123 and Wordstar which I still use! I kept this fool on the line for another hour! That was fun! I enjoyed myself with that one!

@@SteveJones172pilot my dad is the type who is very tech illiterate, but thinks he is way smarter than he actually is. we literally left him alone in the house for 2 hours while my mum had to get surgery and in that time he got called by a scammer (not sure how often you get this specific one in other countries but in the UK a common scam call is someone pretending to be an ISP and threatening that your internet will be shut off if you don't comply). in just that short amount of time they were so threatening and urging that he was convinced by them even though we didn't even use the ISP they were imitating. he has brain damage meaning he struggles with critical thinking and so he did the entire thing of installing a remote access software and logging into the savings account. the only reason they didn't get away with it is because they got greedy and tried to take _everything we had_ and the bank saw a bunch of transfers of £3000+ multiple times into a random account, it flagged up some kind of fraud detection, and they stopped every transaction and froze the account. don't get me wrong my dads a dickhead and I don't like him, but even despite how I feel about him it made me so fucking angry. how can they so callously trick a clearly confused and disabled old man, who was saying the entire time "oh i'm really not sure I should be doing this, I'm worried, my wife deals with the money but she's having surgery" and still sleep at night? we live below the poverty line, if they hadn't been so greedy and not flagged the fraud detection they'd have literally ruined our lives. it was genuinely so surreal to come home and see the exact remote access programs that I see in scam baiting videos installed on his pc. I backed up his important files and then wiped the whole pc just to be on the safe side. we had to have a serious talk with him about what to look out for in scams and especially that its always better to be suspicious and he no longer has the login for the savings account (at his own request). @@SteveJones172pilot absolutely! Not only did my dad suffer emotionally from this but physically as well. He used to be quiet the alpha male and ran a large company back in the day. He had a stroke last year and is now almost child like in his behavior. This was a VERY upsetting experience for him coming to the realization that’s he’s not all there anymore and his baby girl (even though I’m old now too) had to rescue him. He was very appreciative but extremely humiliated and it broke my heart. These scammers are scum of the earth. So grateful I watched these videos. Everyone should share with their family and friends.

@@alexmichelle7721 So sorry to hear what you're going through (and him!!) I have the same situation going too.. 85 year old stepfather who used to own and run a software company before becoming a lawyer, but he's had a few small strokes and now gets very frustrated he can't really understand the computer anymore. Getting old sucks, but it beats NOT getting old I guess.. Anyone who would take advantage of someone like this are definitely scum as you said!!

The best was when a "Microsoft Tech" called about my windows errors, when I was running a Linux system. And when I explained that I'm not even using Windows, he straight out called me a liar and told me he could see what I am doing on my computer! I laughed at him and hung up.

Network Architect here….. This is pure GOLD. I rarely comment but putting Win 3.1 on a vm to see how they’d act is just priceless. They kept thinking it was Linux….. do they try the same scams with *nix distros or is it OS specific? Scamming scammers looks like fun. I’d spend all day playing with them. A friend got one of these calls while we were hanging out on Discord. He put them on speaker for the whole group to enjoy. The car warranty scam script starts with them trying to get you to tell them what car you have. He answered in variations of "Which car?". Consistently implied he owns more than one, without spelling it out for the scammer. Kept pressuring the scammer to identify which specific vehicle he is calling about. Cue 5 minutes of "Which car?" "Your car" "Which car?" as the scammer cycled through his script lines, trying to get the make and model of "the car".

I love Kit's videos because they're both entertaining and educational! I've learned a lot from watching him and other scam baiters. Yesterday my knowledge was put into action when I was checking out at Dollar General and happened to notice a man who was on the phone with someone while looking at gift cards. The more I observed, the more warning signs there were that a scam was in progress. I alerted the cashier and she went to see what was going on. As I left, I saw the man walking out, no longer on the phone and having bought nothing. Thanks to Kit bringing awareness to how these scammers operate, someone was spared becoming a victim.
