It's all good saying this referendum was about unhappy people who felt forgotten by westminster wanting to make their voices heard - but you already have an opportunity like that within this democracy - it's called a general election. the EU had little or nothing to do with austerity that was implemented in britain after the banking crisis.

This couldn’t be a more accurate look into the future. Two years later here we are. A country riven by dissent and rudderless. Dreda who, like others of her persuasion, handed the country off to a Tory party shattered by civil war, is nowhere to be seen on the topic. Especially after Windrush showed her the type of people that she consigned the fates of the millions of European immigrants. What strikes me here is her intense naïveté and lack of knowledge of the structures that she thought wise to campaign to crash. But here we are, and there is nothing that can be done on the topic anymore.

I think you'll find it is the remainers who are the problem. There was a free vote and the public made their decision and yet remainers seem to be rejecting democracy. They have done everything possible to block votes, even taking it to the courts despite there being a very long held tradition of separating the judiciary from the government. The supreme court ruling has caused a crisis within our system which we will see affecting the UK for many years to come and remainers have the audacity to claim Brexit is going to cause harm? Just wait until Labour get back into power, any decision they make could be taken to court because the precedent has been created which will prevent judges from automatically dismissing cases against the government of the day. Remainers have the mindset of a tyrant and the attitude of spoiled children.

Some Labour Voters want Brexit but not the majority. The split was 70% Remain and 30% Leave for Labour Voters. Labour has not lost voters to the Tories or UKIP/Brexit Party but to the LibDems & Greens. The Tories have lost voters to UKIP/Brexit Party. The irony of what you have said is that Corbyn is a life-long Eurosceptic who has campaigned against the EEC and then the EU and since the referendum has campaigned to be out of the Single Market, which of course would prevent Free Movement of People from the EU.

'Tribal' Labour ... 'they're not the people you think they are'. Oh, so that'd be the people the Labour party was set up to represent then? The people we're told are losing their jobs to Poles because they're 'lazy'? People who, just like the 'Eastern Europeans' who Self is so concerned for, also need to make a living in the face of globalising big business. All Europe means to the poor and unskilled is greater competition for that level of work - the 'right' to move to Poland in return feels like a pretty unfair exchange to a whole swathe of U.K society - and it's a consequence of a bargain they never made anyway. I'm willing to bet that the white working class is just about the only social group who Self would so confidently and unashamedly speak about in these terms. Self's arrogant, ignorant, self-righteous prejudice shines through (as does Jon Snow's bias). Well done to Dreda Mitchell; articulate, strong, brave in the face of his hectoring, inarticulate bigotry.

So Will, a load of people came to this country in order to benefit themselves and now they'll have to go home. So what? What's wrong with their homelands? Why don't these tireless grafters put in some work back home? If 500 million Chinese wanted to come here to look for a job, should we let them? Some of them? How many?

A few thoughts on the representative democracy point: (a) The Conservatives won the 2015 vote on the pledge that a referendum on EU membership would be carried out (b) MPs voted to enable this referendum 544 for 53 against (c) Just because we have a representative democracy currently doesn't mean everyone agrees with it. I'd much rather a more direct democracy and more frequent consultations of the public through referendums. After all if we'd had a vote on Maastricht and Lisbon a substantial amount of this disruption could have been avoided (d) Following the referendum verdict, MPs voted to enact Article 50, the mechanism by which the UK could leave the EU

Are you so deluded to think that the contemporary presence of POC and Black people is/was dependant on white people being civilised? Are YOU So racist to think that Black people and POC should take into consideration the views of white people who seemingly do not give one HOT DAMN about white poverty and use white poverty in order to separate the Working Class by RACE? What is it about yourself that you think you have so much to give that a person like me ( black) would hold your hand just because you claim not to be UKIP or a "Firster"? You vain white liberals need to chaco your privilege. And maybe to get "our" trust, you had better show as much genuine compassion to the poor of your own than to "those poor over there" that you hardly mix with anyway. If you had a brain, you would realise that those who are witness to white poverty are usually the same POC that White Liberals dump in the poorer areas (historically and contemporarily). Then you lot have the audacity to deny that POC are usually overwhelmingly working class or poor in the West ( the bastion of liberalism) by erasing us when it comes to talking about the Working Class. And fuck off with the |because overt racists vote for Leave, it means that no POC should vote Leave" rhetoric. That in itself shows that you are a racist who denies the inter sectionalism of both the White working class and Black/POC in general.......ie, you are not the liberal that your ego has lead you to believe. You are as racist, if not more than the average UKIPPER, because you have decided to deny the full humanity of a black woman and the poor of your won race in order to make yourself feel superior. If you were a Ukipper then I would say "fair enough". But you aren't so , in fact , YOU are Will Self and all you deluded white liberals who think as basically as you do. Head's up, honey. If you have nothing to give to "the cause", just own your basic self like millions of people around the world have to do every day without being sneering and racist and superior. There is nothing wrong with being a white person who just goes with the flow. Rather that than an earnest do nothing who needs "the other" to hide their shallowness behind. Leave the harder stuff to others, eh? Effete, fey, anti community, monocultural, anti"edge", too middle class, too establishment, anti wisdom, ageist, anti get anything edifying done, anti intelligence (over educated) and conservative is what the Modern Liberal Movement has become. And to take it to the bridge, we now have "the progressives" who are the most conservative and seemingly sex starved ( if one is swerving, one hasn't time for all those inarticulate tantrums that seems to be the MO of too many of THAT lot) movements ( at least in the way that progressives manifest themselves and the argument stifling tactics that they use) seen in my lifetime. So fuck off with your stereotyping of how black people should be and act in order for your white so called liberal self to feel better for your views of life and how you hold them. Pick you own fucking cotton, you drip! Or better still, go and do some good works on behalf of the white poor that your kind like to keep poor, so that anti white anger from POC will be directed at them. The better to hide racism and the "othering" disposition of the white middle class liberal behind. If you don't like white poor, how you gonna like POC, most of whom are poor or working class ( and that is WORLDWIDE )? Or is it that we poor POC have, perhaps a "vibrant" culture that is quite moneymaking and that you can carpet bag behind whilst denying to yourselves that poor whites have a culture because it isn't as commercial ijnhe uk as it was in the Sixties? No wonder David Bowie left up from the UK. Poor him , if he stayed here and the hypocritical liberals got a hold of him. Better to go to America where, at least, the average person finds it harder to hold in their hypocrisy and ALL dynamics, including "liberal Racism"are talked about amongst ALL and out the side of their necks. The average Liberal in the UK doesn't like it upland at them. Maybe that is why the white woking class hasn't been allowed to gain any shine since the sixties....the poor sods only went and made Britain Cool and did the whole social mobility thing too bloody well. And therein lies another well of fear for the over promoted middle class liberal.......he/she secretly knows that they cannot let the white working class "out" because then, too many POC working class will follow and thus the mediocrity and blandishment of middle class white liberals will be seen, in all its flagrance. Any industry that they rule, especially "the Arts" become dull .

Will Self says - "who's going to handle your defence?" The UK has been one of the main Atlases holding up the sky of European defence - mostly the US and NATO, but us and France more than any of the rest of Europe. We defend them, not the other way round!

We are now 7 years on and Brexit has been an abject failure, in fact a disaster. £100bn a year lost, including £40bn a year in lost taxes, so record taxes and peace time borrowing to fill the gap. Also, lost rights to travel, settle, work. Extra costs on trade, travel and communications, making some unviable. Musicians and artists catastrophically ruined.
