As a leader, you will make a mistake. No, worse than that, if you're really leading, you'll really screw up at some point. When we do, we need to apologize. For an example of how to apologize when we really mess up bad, we turn to Will Smith. This video apology he posted is a case-study for us to dissect.
When you apologize, remember:
1. Take Responsibility (Pull in the Blame)
2. Be Authentic (Don't overproduce it or overact)
3. Put Names and Examples to Those You Hurt
4. Recognize You Hurt More Than Those You Directly Impacted (Broaden your stakeholders)
5. Recognize You are Human (You are not your mistake)
6. Move Forward
