Genuinely surprised you never tested the TSR2 & TSR3. Two of the best drivers I have ever played. C-19 made titanium more expensive and carbon cheaper, Titleist chose the right route (full titanium) and crush everything…IMO.

I played Cleveland for years, from the 90's (VAS+ 792) through the early 2010's (TA5 gunmetal)...then I did Ping G410 irons and Taylormade driver (M3-M5-Stealth-Stealth2)....now it is Callaway AI Smoke driver but the irons are Titleist T200. I went from a Stealth 4 rescue to a TSR 7 wood and am so happy. Because of the feel of that club, I will definitely give the new GT a look.

Titleist starts an early production. This way they do less expansion and retraction of the production line. They are already pumping so they give it to your pros for the marketing. The tour feedback never changes anything. But I agree with Rick the best time to release a golf club is the earlier in the season, not later. Anyway the largest problem with Titleist is the fact the factory has more saying than the engineers. If the engineers wants to do something, but the factory says no. That’s it for Titleist. For other brands who use the vendors, if one says no they go to other. But titleist owns the factory and I think it’s their biggest weakness. Even when the factory produces what’s inferior to the earlier generation, they can’t do a thing about it.

I wish all brands would have a 2-3 year product window on equipment. You can’t really improve anything in a 12 month window cause when you break it down that R&D time is really only like 3-4 months tops. You still need time for prototypes, manufacturing changes and retooling, and marketing as well.

Im super excited for these clubs as I’m absolutely crushing every stick in my bag (Titleist) except my driver (TM). It’s a Stealth 2 Plus and although it’s certainly adequate, and gets me around the course just fine, it just doesn’t inspire the same confidence that my 3 wood does (TSR3). Anyone know when they normally release/launch new products?

I feel like the Titleist drivers always fall under the radar compared to other brands like TaylorMade or Callaway. I see influencers and the like reviewing or showcasing those drivers from them even months after they're released, but it seems like people talk about the new Titleist drivers for like a day or two after they're announced and then move on to something else. But people will also go on and on about the latest Vokey or SC putter, it's just strange to me.

have the tsi and love it but can't wait to try the GT - do like titles how they have their two cycles and makes me feel they bring out a club cause its better rather than a yearly marketing release used to hate the TM and Callaway used to bring out like 6 drivers a year - two releases
@ButterCutGolf

Companies from all industries like to release products a few months before the holidays...it allows for marketing to maximize its brand awereness among consumer…also releasing in spring would line up too closely to “tax season” in the USA, a time of year when people are thinking about all the money they should have saved the previous fall/winter.
@r33c34reel

I bet they release it in September cuz of two things. 1) thats when most people start their research on how to improve their bag. 2) the people that are interested have seen the drivers in the hands of the pros all summer. And maybe a pro wins with one. Immediate justification of the driver's legitimacy. I think it's quite obvious why they do this actually. Instead of saying "We promise It's got the latest tech and will add distance." Titleist can say "it works for the pros and you've seen the proof". Quite genius in my opinion.

Rick is into the promotion of clubs so I can understand his position on clubs coming out every year. But TaylorMade and Callaway have turned their drivers and fairway woods into gimmicky, ugly, gaudy garbage IMO and will NEVER be considered classic like Titleist, Mizuno or Ping. I do give credit to TM on their new driver Qi10 with a classic black finish but I don’t trust they’ll stay with this design.

If you think about when Titleist release their drivers, the end of the season is probably when people are swinging their best…so, they are more likely to buy a product then because they hit it well…in the beginning of the season, most people aren’t comfortable with their swing, or are working on it, or still getting their swing stamina up…

Like all the main brands they bring out clubs including drivers every year, two or three years. The tech is basically the same. The rules dictate the face can only be a certain thickness, in the case of titanium thinner gives more spring. It doesn't matter what new kit comes out they all have to conform. Extra distance achieved by a springy face is crap, the bigger manufacturers are probably on the limit now. The name probably will upset Porsche

@schapediddly
@schapediddly 7 ай бұрын
For being involved in golf as long as you have, I am surprised you havent realized what brands do during launch to pretend the new driver is way better. Tour players prefer (on average anyway) slightly more spin on a driver than your local fitter would set a normal guy up with. Spin = stability. Most want to hit fairways and realize a few yards isn't as beneficial as a fairway on tour where the rough is truly penalizing. So when they get to the "fitting" of the new stuff, they'll stick them in a lower lofted head than theyll actually end up playing. Lower loft = less spin and more ball speed. All the sudden relative to their gamer this new driver is faster with less spin. "Its amazing! The engineers really knocked it out of the park! 4 mph faster ball speed and 8 more yards will really help me" Then they cut the cameras and probably say hey now go build me one with more loft that spins 2400-2600 and all the "gains" disappear. This shits been happening for years. And im not trying to say equipment hasnt gotten better because it has... But if everyone was picking up 4 mph every year like they want you to believe, the average ball speed on tour wouldve crept up to 190-200 mph. Instead its still low 170s, up from high 160s 10 years ago.
