😢Sadly, the team (not the talent) has become average and mediocre compared to the start of our season. Losing Means, Wells, Bradish, Coloumbe has strained our bullpen. Losing Westburg, Kjerstad and Mateo has created fissures in the infield and the stress on Henderson (a rookie last year btw) is obvious. Having to endure less consistent offensive productive players has strained the more productive ones, squashed our rally opportunities and magnified the slumps they have. And I still say the one statistic that I watch plague us last year and seems to be looming this year is the LOB numbers. We strand too many runners in critical game situations. And I lament as I watch each game recently I hear the commentator mention our opposing teams have a reliable closer and we are still searching for one in mid August. It’s a subtle thing but I’ve noticed. I imagine Conner that if our team had weathered without all the impactful injuries the discussion concerning “bringing back” our free agents wouldn’t seem so intense. Brandon Hyde’s own assessment has subtly come through as he has changed his post loss game answers “yeah we are doing well” to “we have a hole but we can fill it” to “it’s just baseball and it happens” to “some people have to step up.” The anxiety about the post season is obvious and for good reasons. THIS late season team is unfamiliar and right now a mediocre team that inherited the starting team’s legacy record. Now the news is about being hopeful that key players could return (even a few about Bautista because he’s throwing again). Having said that, league wise, it’s obvious we are not the on,y ones suffering such issues either especially among the season leading playoff bound teams. I know the franchise feels they owe it to the fans to make the post season and run deep doing so, but I for one lament it. Elias and Co. have worked a vision to rebuild the club mostly from inside. it seems we have detoured from that this season with grand ideas that after last year this team is playoff ready, but it’s not THE team we rebuilt now and it may put even more pressure on the injured to return too early and cause a systemic breakdown. And as a result we traded away a lot of talent we cultivated like stowers, mayo and hays. And those people would be our future replacements for the free agents you’re debating to hold onto. 🤔
@CamKrazy20002 ай бұрын
So far Rogers looks like another Cole Irvin with even less velo. Nats' hitters, especially lefties, had no problem barreling up last night. BTW James Wood is money, he has had no problem against big league pitchers since he was called up. And he's a year younger than Mayo.

@@cbaldwi11 Neither Irvin nor Rogers should be throwing any pitches belt high but they do and get hammered. Soft tossing lefties can still be successful but they should live down in the zone with occasional high 4-seamers.
