Finally, Ugo accepts that the Whoniverse is a single universe (well, except for those other universes we don't talk about anymore). ;)

The actor who played the real Jack Harkness got quite emotional during the scene in real life and explained to John Barrowman that his brother was gay but killed himself because of pressures to be closeted - so the scene meant a great deal to him.

@stephjovi I never fully understood that, he talks about not changing history then proceeds to change history. When they first met her, he talked about her being a great pm and yes she made a mistake but we can understand why in the heat of the moment. I guess he does take some of the blame for it.

This was filmed in the Red House, a former Borough Council building for Merthyr Tydfil, some 30 miles north of Cardiff. Since filming it has been gutted and made into a multi purpose venue.

A confusing but fascinating episode . A team of very different people focussed on Jack , but he too had his secrets . A good breakdown from Ugo and looking forward to the next one .

So conman Ex-Time Agent Jack took the name after this night, had his adventures with the Doctor and used his Vortex Manipulator to get back from the year 200100 to wait at the Rift for The Doctor.

Oh, last thing. I don’t remember whether or not I said this to you or not-too much late (late!) night YouTubing-but I wanted to clarify something before leaving it to rest. I dbl. checked the show endings to be precise: the sensitivity between this Torchwood and Doctor Who crossover is at the *very* end of TW S1:13 **followed** by the start of DW S3:11. IOW, watch the Torchwood first. Be sure to have watched DW S3:10 first (which I believe you’ve done by now. Can’t wait to watch your reaction to a fan-and my-favorite episode).
@joerosenman348026 күн бұрын
A really fun episode BUT-it creates a nearly irreconcilable conflict of facts, sadly. To whit: what was Jack’s name when he first met Rose & Doctor in “The Empty Child”? Exactly. The only possible way would be if Jack scouted things out first, came across the real Cpt. (or at least his name) then went back in time to dangle the Chula ship & crash it.. and THEN met the Doctor. Remember, our Jack couldn’t run into himself. So unlikely-but the only way that name acquisition works. Any other solutions out there? Owen is unravelling. Not pretty. Ugo is having fun. Very pretty. 😄 Seriously, glad you’re enjoying these shows-it’s reflected in your reactions which convey some of that joy. Listening to you try to figure things out-when I/we know the answers-is interesting. Less about providing specific (spoiler) answers and more about “oh that? Just wait and see…” with eager anticipation. Yeah. 🌝
@silverwind376626 күн бұрын
The Chula ship flew by the Tardis and made it to London about a month before the Doctor and Rose did. I just assumed Jack flung it past them to a spot he'd scouted out and knew would be hit by a bomb, and then just integrated himself, taking the name Jack, while he waited for the Tardis to arrive. Could be he learned about the name Jack Harkness being up for grabs when he scouted the spot for the Chula ship or when he was waiting for the Tardis. Either way he must have at least scouted out the bomb site beforehand.
@stephjovi26 күн бұрын
@@silverwind3766 I agree. I figured he just took the name when he was hanging out right before we met him in DW. He´s probably really called Jack and just quickly scanned for a dead or missing person called Jack and than later falsified records to be able to keep hte name long term.
@joerosenman348026 күн бұрын
@@silverwind3766 It’s plausible… my reservations are: in The Empty Child, Jack has clearly been around for a while (could mean anything but he didn’t just arrive a day or two before); was that enough time to both acquire a new name and make it his own? AND based on the TW episode he knew the details of how the original Harkness bit it-not pretty. All of which begs the question, why change his name at all? If it was Marflib Ninyooñah Crazfripblerch I suppose cultural necessity might apply… Still odd to just walk away from your name while your mission is to discover what happened to/during two missing years.
@kierank250525 күн бұрын
@@joerosenman3480Well actually in that exact moment his ‘mission’ was pulling off a time-scam on time agents he could find to make some money - which would both draw out time agents and help resource his actual personal mission of finding the lost 2 years the time agency he *used* to work for took from him.
@silverwind376625 күн бұрын
@@joerosenman3480 Probably for anonymity. He's not on good terms with the time agency and he's about to con the Doctor so a cover name would be useful. Then by the end of the episode he grows as a person and finds his heroic side which probably makes the name a lot more meaningful to him so he keeps it.
