I'm a homeowner. Had the 800ce for two years. It is amazing. I'm 72yo. I fill, prime, and choke it making sure the throttle trigger is in run position. I set the BP on my garage workbench and then back up to it. I adjust the shoulder straps such that the hip pad sit just atop my back hip girdle and then sinch tight the belly strap. Done this way is sits VERY comfortably on my back hip area. To start, slowly draw out the start cord until you just feel the beginning of the compression stroke. Then, give the cord a brisk forward yank. About two times and it will fire and run rich idle. Depress the throttle button to remove choke. You are good to go! No need to choke to restart when warm. Great machine. The CFMs move mountains of leaves and the MPHs will scour out thatch right to bare earth. Love it. Oh. I just realized I have written to you before!

Hey now, I am an old DIY dude..LOL...but liked this video very much. You explained the equipment usage very well & I believe this Stihl model would be a wise choice for my 3 acres of leaves...TY

The side start. You are supposed to do a slow half pull until you feel tension, then let it retract and then pull it firmly
@benjaminleslie31553 жыл бұрын
yep, love that side-start but so many people who have tried it get so confused on how to start it right. you always want to cold start it on the ground, and you want to slowly pull the cord out until you feel the resistance of the engine compression. That's when you give it a full strong tug and it should start on the first or second pull.
@BigOrangeTractors3 жыл бұрын
Yep, it definitely has taken some getting used to. I generally always cold start on the ground, for sure. I've heard that the starters are pretty fragile (I'm sure from people not understanding the process), so I have been trying to take it easy with.

@Tinker Tractor Welder Mechanic I prime, choke, suit-up, find compression, yank, pop, wait 2 sec, pull trigger to turn off choke, off I go. Just ran it today. Fantastic machine.

Love the blower but had to swap out side start for a regular one. The side start was too finicky and broke after less than a year off light use. Friends that have this had same issues.
@BigOrangeTractors2 жыл бұрын
I've definitely heard the issues with the side start. It is the main reason I bought this one (and the only reason I upgraded from my older Echo). No issues with it yet, but if I do have any, I'll replace it at least once. After that I may go back to the regular. Thanks for having a peek!

I have the 800C-E. I still start it before I put it on. Had it three weeks now, and the stupid clip broke that holds the grommet for the wire going to handle. The grommet came out, and it snapped the clip when I tried to pish the grommet back in. Should be warranty after spending $760

Excellent choice…..I recently got one myself and I love it it’s a power horse
@shemsuddinmillard5542 жыл бұрын
I just used mine for the first time. The easy start works well, just takes some getting used to. What I had to get used to was the power of the fan pulling me left, especially when the cruise control was set to wide open. I was on loose soil on an off camber pitch, lost my footing and couldn’t correct. I had a comically slow fall because the torque tweaked my proprioception. I laughed while it was happening because it was so weird.
@BigOrangeTractors2 жыл бұрын
Ha! That's hilarious. I often find myself in situations where I feel like I'm falling in slow motion (or some other doofy, awkward thing). It is a powerful machine that takes a bit of getting used to if you've not ran one much. And you're right, the easy start takes a second to get used to and finding the right spot.

I thought she was your daughter until you called her Mrs. I have the ECHO PB9010T blower. It moves trash cans, potted plants, lawn furniture and leaves. I'm thinking about getting the 800C for smaller jobs.
@BigOrangeTractors2 жыл бұрын
She'll certainly appreciate that! I had an echo PB500 before this one, and it's a huge upgrade. The main reason I bought this one is the side start, no other reason. I've only heard good things about the 9010. It seems like a great machine!

When does the 900 come out? I ain’t squatting 315 for nothing. Also someone should make a porting or tuning video. These things easily have 10-20% more power but they are running a tad rich

Hmmm, not sure why. This one has the extension built in. Not sure why it would be different. I know I had them get this one out of the back and unboxed for me, so maybe nothing had the chance to get lost. There wasn't anything special about it, and I didn't add anything. Does yours have the collar to let it extend? Anywho, thanks for checking us out!

I believe the stihl video shows pull until you feel resistance (compression) let it retract then pull all the way out in one motion -
@BigOrangeTractors2 жыл бұрын
You're right. After using for a bit, I realized that this is the most important step. Pull while looking for compression, then smooth pulls on the compression stroke.
@mddale3 жыл бұрын
You pull the rope gently until you start to feel compression. Then, give it a brisk tug. It is 4-cycle. You may have to pull it a couple times to get to the compression point. Then, TUG.
@BigOrangeTractors3 жыл бұрын
It's not four cycle, it is still a regular two cycle engine. And yes, you pull until you feel compression and then pull again. It's odd to get used to finding that spot, especially when this was literally the first use.
@mddale3 жыл бұрын
@Tinker Tractor Welder Mechanic The 800C-E is 4cycle. Has valves.
@BigOrangeTractors3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm.... My apologies. Since this is my first non-chainsaw Stihl product and having heard about 4mix engines, I asked the salesman and and was told it was 2cycle. I also looked all over their website and specs before I went into the dealer, and that also seemed to point 2cycle (or at least not 4mix technology). Even looking in the manual now, it repeatedly says "two cycle" many times in the front of the manual. The first reference to 4mix is on page 32. The first indication of it is on page 30, where it talks about valve adjustment. I suppose this is what I get for trusting that the sales guy knows what he's talking about!
@BigOrangeTractors3 жыл бұрын
But that certainly does explain why I usually have to pull the starter a couple times to find the right stroke!
@mddale3 жыл бұрын
@Tinker Tractor Welder Mechanic Right! It's a very odd thing. But, works well once you understand what's going on inside. I just feel bad if people are dissuaded from it thinking it is hard to start. It's amazingly easy once you get the hang of it. My neighbor has the 700. He and I worked together doing our yards. My 800 did 3 times the work. Plus, the MPH scours the crap out of the grass right down to the soil. It is essentially dethatching! I then go back and mow+bag and the yard is immaculate. The extensible blow tube is super amazing. Point it down and the air becomes a rake .

Read the manual my friend you almost got the starting procedure right prime the primer bulb 5 or 6 times 10 if you want you can't flood the engine the excess gas goes back to the tank turn the choke level to full choke (cold engine) and pull the rope let the engine fire and soon as it runs hit the throttle and let it idle for a minute or two warm engine put the choke on 1/2 choke and hit the throttle after is starts hot engine just pull 😁
