yes. Unfortunately, Cunard-White Star Line was having financial problems and couldn't afford to turn her into a museum, so the decision was made to scrap her. It would have been nice to have a museum like the Queen Mary

Unfortunately the 1930s were an awful time for the world's economy. There's no way she ever would have been saved as a museum or even a hotel at the time. Luckily her scrapping brought jobs to thousands of unemployed workers and the majority of her fixtures were saved!

I think what makes most sense is having the Titanic replica be a hotel; it could then be an exact replica externally without the need of modern lifeboats, and I think people would enjoy staying in the hotel for special events and occasions (parties, romantic getaways etc.). The classic restaurants and the Parisian cafe, with the Turkish Baths and perhaps a slightly nicer pool would be enough to make it a worthwhile experience - especially if the hotel can be docked permanently by the city like Southampton.

The problem with building an exact replica as a museum, like taking honor and glory into the real world for example, is the sheer amount of upkeep it would need to combat vandalism. And like if you consider the queen Mary, that is set up as a hotel, so they have everything in place to service the rooms constantly. Imagine having to do that with even more accessible spaces with even nicer furnishings, but with no one ever actually staying there. That’s a huge staff requirement for so little return. Ultimately, I think the best case scenario would be like a permanent installation of re-created set pieces. Building the entire ship is just too recreational of an activity to be realistic in the world of shipping.

Just got an update that it is a go now. They said it is going to be a replica of the original interior and vastly more safety features.

It would be interesting to have it 100% historically accurate for the guests but then that’s gonna bring up safety concerns and whatnot. But it would be really cool to have ways to hide all the modern stuff. Like you said a small tv maybe it’s hidden behind something until you open it. I think it’d be cool too to have a dance where you dress in decade appropriate clothes. A lot of cool things could be done

If they built this ship and I decided to go on it I damn sure I'm not going to go on it to live the life of a broke poor person from back in 1912. So yeah the third class accommodations should probably just be figured out to be something else altogether. Plenty of second and first-class accommodations to turn into great cabins

The hotel idea i think is more suitable since the cruise idea... i dont think has any large market share. How would that stand up to any of the other large cruise lines in todays world and also the technology these days, I would say that like you said, this ship plan is obsolete. I would have it as a hotel that just floats in one city. then you can book a stay as long as you want and then also have a portion of it as the museum as well.

The titanic was an ocean liner, not a cruise ship. Being an ocean liner, it was Matt from going to point to point rapidly so if you did rebuild a modern titanic, you would have to use it as a ocean liner to go from Northampton to New York and vice versa and from other point to point destinations in my opinion, so I think it’s a losing proposition altogether, what do you think?😅

Title is Titanic II but the thumbnail is Romandisea Titanic, which is a different project from Blue Star Lines' Titanic II. That's what I want to point out. Also, Romandisea Titanic has been rusting in its spot for almost 3 years now. Both Titanic II and Romandisea Titanic projects are just giving people false hope that something like rebuilding ships like Titanic would bring back those classic days of travelling by ocean. Those days are over. That era has ended. Shipbuilders and companies today would rather build bigger so that it would accommodate thousands more people. With the Icon of the Seas about to go into service, there's no hope for such projects that would reignite people's interest towards ocean liners. Besides, QM2 is still in service.

NFL teams who buy stadiums eventually make their money back through concessions, tax breaks, and ticket sales. I don't believe, if the Titanic II was ever finished, that it would make back what it would cost to not only build it, but what it would cost to run it.

I don’t think it will ever happen. Costs more to build then a Cruise Ship and not as much on board entertainment for the masses, Titanic Fans are too niche a market to make money from and they would nitpick on the shortcomings on the authenticity, right down to details on the door knobs. Titanic Fans would complain just like Star Wars and Marvel Fans complain about Disney 😂

First, I had a disagreement with a u-toober about the Queen Mary in Long Beach California. I don't think it's viable because the Los Angeles area is a saturated market (6 theme parks, over 100 tourist draws, over 100 five star hotels, etc.). I strongly feel that the Queen Mary would do better where it is a star attraction, like somewhere on the gulf coast. Second, the SS United States is wasting away in Philadelphia. The SS United States Conservancy lacks the $100 million plus to restore the ship, furthermore, they feel that, once restored, it would be a draw in New York City. It's hard for me to picture that as New York draws more tourists from abroad than from from the US. Once again, I feel that the ship would do well on the gulf coast, but that's just me.

The Romandisea project has been abandoned it's unclear what has happen perhaps they went into liquidation because the astronomical costs to develop the theme park were exceeding, also to think that they would have to let go of the workforce building the replica ship.

Turns out, it was never dead. Just delayed. But on March 13th, Palmer again announced it, with pretty precise dates for everything this time. Tenders for construction go out this June, construction starts January or February 2025, and maiden voyage is June 2027. I think it's finally, actually happening.

I definitely would not be interested in sailing on it! The past is in the past. I do not want to relive it. Only learn from it. The current cruise industry fills market requirements quite well. I would not even like to stay on it as an hotel. But these are just my thoughts. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

At this point I'd rather take a trip on the QM2. She's beating and definitely an Ocean Liner. You can't raise the Titanic...it would fall apart. They should just leave her alone.

they shouldnt put proper engines in it i think instead of running it on coal they should try oil. because that was used on steam engines dont make the funnels viewpoints keep it as it was and preserve its lineage

I feel like most people would rather go to an actual museum and see the real stuff than pay thousands of dollars to go on a tacky rip off version of it. It’s a cool concept but I just can’t see it as being enjoyable. If it’s realistic nobody will book it cuz it’s not comfortable in second or third class but if it’s not realistic and accurate then titanic fans won’t care about it because it’s just a titanic themed cruise ship.

there has been multiple titanic projects, most if not all have been planned for stationary restaurants or tour spots. building an actual titanic again would be visually cool but being an ancient ocean liner, it would hold no value on the ocean, would be a money sink for sure.
