In my mind the pike stack was fair game because, first Rome glitched in the Illyrian raider, then seemed to have moved his army at the last second, and then pushed through. If he isn’t going to respect the rules I don’t see why Sparta should have to. I'm assuming due to everything that Suebi was the one who brought the deployable so that's not on Sparta.

Isn't Pike stacking mostly an issue if the pikes are being attacked by ranged? With no incoming ranged attacks, Pike stacking isn't really a big deal, unless I'm missing something obvious

Many people feel that pike stacking is called when any other unit stacks either pikes to cause the pikes to take less damage. Whether that be from ranged/javelins or melee dps.
