You're correct, the rap wasn't in the original. Jennie and Lisa wrote the rap themselves. On the show (it was a talk/music show called PARTY PEOPLE) they said that they chose this cover to perform because they had performed it during their trainee days for their monthly evaluation and their CEO had praised them on it.

Personally, I like BLACKPINK's cover more than the original version, plus BLACKPINK gave it their touch, the incredible thing is that BP's cover already has 110 million views in just 6 years, not far from the original song that only has 143 million views in 12 years.

I really loved this cover, my favorite cover of a kpop group so far. They actually did this cover for their monthly evaluations when they were trainees and brought it to stage. Blackpink’s combination is so perfect, their vocal tones and individualities always shows and blends in together. I think that’s part of the reason why many people follow them until today.

This made me realize that YG artists don't really do cover songs unless it's a Bigbang song. It's like a right of passage that every kpop group has to do a cover of a Bigbang song at some point in their career. 'WeMe' eventually had some great songs incl. CRUSH & PICKY PICKY, but are sadly about 2 years into music hiatus...maybe now their company thinks they are BLACKPINK and torment their fans too like YG does with endless delays. I remember when Sure Thing cover dropped on JYP's Party People show in 2017 during promotions for AIIYL, see hair colors. They had only debuted a year previous and were already this good.
