QD. Westchester NY. 50". BUT I am a Brit and I was surprised to learn that the UK has similar. The big difference is that NY gets twice as much sunshine or put another way we get far fewer rain days and when it rains it rains hard. In the UK, lots more rainy, drizzle days and because of less sunshine, less opportunity for drying, more mud. Its a huge difference. Even running 5 or 6 days a week, I may end up running in the rain, once or twice a month in NY vs 12x jn the UK.

You don't need water resistant shoes when weather is not cold. It doesn't matter that feet get wet. The most uncomfortable conditions are just above freezing when it's raining heavily. Then shield or gore-tex shoes are helpful. Once the temperature gets to close to 10C/40s F it's fine to wear any shoe no matter how much it rains. Water resistant shoes are heavier. So they are made for ass of the world weathers.

Happy Birthday, TL!!🥳 QD: Not much rain here in Tucson, AZ. I don't think I need a water-resistant shoe but now I kind of want a pair. Hey--never know. I do own the Kinvara 11. Loved them for 80mi, now they're retired to gym shoes. They're just too exposed; being 6'1 190lbs and running on rugged roads, the outsole was getting shredded. They also lost their pop very fast. Still love the shoe though. Great choice for TMs. They're quiet when pounding belt.

I live in Alaska. It rains about 20 inches a year here in our area. I have not used waterproof running shoes but in the winters are used to use Gore-Tex socks not for the water resistant but for the wind resistance. When the temperatures are below 0°F in the wind blows more than 20 miles an hour it is difficult to keep your feet warm. I may try a pair of waterproof shoes for the windproofness. I had not thought of that before.

Live in Missoula, MT. We only get about 12 inches of moisture a year, but I love water resistant shoes in the winter. Water resistant generally means wind resistant also, so when it is really cold outside, they are an awesome type of shoe to own. When it gets slushy out, they are also great. They are so much better at keeping your feet warm when it is really cold. People with poor circulation should definitely get them.

1) Washington, DC area. 2) 41 inches per year. 3) Last week I retired the Pegasus 36 shield and replaced it with the Ghost 13 GTX. - - - By the way, stepping into 2-3 inches of standing water doesn’t simulate running in the rain. Rain comes from above, not below. Wearing the shoes in the shower would be a better simulation. On my Peg 36 shields, the tongue was the weak spot in terms of water repellency. Water constantly hits the tongue during a rainy run, but in your test, the water didn’t reach the tongue level until you got to 3 inches deep.

QD: UK here so we know a thing or two about rain! Never bother with waterproof/resistant shoes. The water will nearly always creep down into the shoes from over the sides or from wicking down your socks. Waterproof shoes dry more slowly so you're left with wet feet and water with nowhere to go. You're better off with quick draining/drying shoes that let any water escape more readily. Only my opinion though.

Plenty of rain over here in the UK, and now we're into winter and it's pretty constant wind and rain, plus getting dark at about 4pm. I picked up the Peg 37's as a daily shoe now my Turbo 2's are beginning to die after about 900 miles in them. The 37's are possibly the most confusing pair of shoes I've ever used - some runs they feel like they've got great cushioning and are relatively 'snappy' - others they just feel heavy and way too firm. I've also found the toe off feels almost like my foot is slipping unless it's perfectly dry weather.
