Them blades aren’t bidirectional? Ive seen some bush hog blades that had a cutting edge on both sides. I thought I saw that on those blades.

They are. I was just trying to match flow/direction from previous use, and I had previously set up the machine to only have flow in one direction. The hoses are coming off to be swapped for shorter ones anyway, so just trying to get everything matched up to work together.

Thank you so much! I am getting this exact cutter tomorrow for my kx040-4 that I just got a few weeks ago. Ordered both back in June, getting the cutter used was a nice find, as I've had to wait almost 6 months on my new one (a month longer then it took to get the excavator!). The manual is super confusing as to what to do to set it up. Was the #2 aux setting already pre-programed for you, or did you have to set that up somehow? Also surprised you were able to still use the thumb, the guy that delivered my excavator (i'm a total newb) said I would need to turn the diverter valve on the boom to use the cutter. Also curious if you had to change the flow to 1-way as another commenter mentioned below. I'll ask the dealership all this tomorrow too of course but i really appreciate you sharing your hands-on experience.

Yeah, I was pretty lucky to find the used cutter. My machine is the SP2 version, so I've got two sets of hydraulics. My thumb is plumbed straight, and then I have a set of QDs for the mower (or other attachment). I specifically wanted this package to run the mower with, and it was hard to find. The setup is pretty easy, once you go through it a few times. I found it just easier to click through the menu than to try to follow the book. I have the one way flow valve opened up, but I'm not sure if I have to run it that way or not. The mower is bidirectional, so I honestly don't know how those two things interact. You'll love your machine, I think. I know I really like mine.
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 2 жыл бұрын
I just called a couple Kubota dealers as a follow-up based on your comment. Both said that I shouldn't need to run with the one way flow valve open, because the mower is bi-directional. Implements that would need to use the one way flow valve are things like a hammer (of course), but also tools like plate compactors or rock grinders, too.

@@BigOrangeTractors thanks. And for the record on my machine i do have to turn the diverter to use the cutter. Aux setting 3 that was pre-programmed (jackhammer icon) ran the cutter great. Maybe one day i'll fool around and figure out how to spin it in the other direction and use the cutter icon :) The thing is a blast to use. Was shredding 2" trees no problem, 3" with some extra attention.
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 2 жыл бұрын
@@mabelscreekvineyard1737 awesome. To run it in the other direction, just change the settings from one side to the other. I have two cutter settings set up in mine, #2 and #3. One for each direction of rotation. I think it will come in handy when working near roads or buildings, etc.

Don’t forget to flip your diverter valve at the hydraulic tank to one way to reduce back pressure on your return line to the hydraulic reservoir.
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 2 жыл бұрын
You know, I was just thinking about this yesterday. I was told it was just for running a hammer, but it makes sense for the mower, too. Thanks for the reminder/prompt. I'll do it as soon as I put it back on the machine!

I put on a constant flow valve. Do you think I still need to switch ( I have a John Deere 35g but it has the same switch
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 2 жыл бұрын
@@justanbaker8937 after this question was asked a couple times, I called two different Kubota dealers. Their responses were that as long as the implement you're using is a two way implement (in the case of my mower it can be ran in both directions; another two way implement would be a post hole digger), you don't need to switch the one way valve to direct dump. But if it's an implement that is only designed to be ran one way (breaker/hammer, plate compactor, asphalt milling head, mulcher) then you would open the one way valve to allow the oil to dump directly to the tank.

I think that mower needs a case drain looks like a spot on the motor pump needs to be run to the hydraulic tank on the machine never understand why these machines do come factory with a case drain pre plumbed
@BigOrangeTractors
@BigOrangeTractors 2 жыл бұрын
I was curious, too. I talked with the Kubota dealer, and also Bushmaster. Both said it would be necessary because it is bi-directional and it doesn't pull enough flow. I did open the one way flow control valve just because, but I was told that it was unnecessary, also. It would be nice if they did come from the factory with a case drain plumbed just in case.

I thought the exact same thing. How unsafe to stand in front of a piece of used spinning steel. And the diverter valve, without turning to one way, you're going to blow up the hydraulic system. Things to know...
