Hey man those Isuzu engines are really good and will last a long time! I’d put it in the cat and paint it yeller. Your stressing about the blow by for no reason, when you have blow by you know it it will smoke real bad, there is air moving in the crankcase from the pistons moving up and down that is what your seeing with the oil cap moving all the engines I’ve seen like that do this, I actually think that engine has zero blow by or a very small amount because it runs great and doesn’t smoke. Blow by is oil blowing past the rings so doing a compression test will confirm this. I think you should run it it’s a much better engine than that pos Perkins

Congratulations on the successful repair. I'd run that diesel until the parts for the other engine were in. Also, don't worry about the blow-by. might be due to it sitting for so long. thirdly, if your'e running it i'd get in there and change that timing belt. good luck. alway love the videos. get 'er done!

A few rough points I noted in the video. The pump coupler is not specific to CAT. Its a standard industry part seen in many different machines. CAT just puts their own part number on it as does every other company. Not sure what the threads are on that bung you installed in the oil pan, but usually those quick drains are either meant to seal with an o-ring or integrated seal. Also use those Harbor Freight o-ring kits as a last resort. If the factory o-ring is still feels good 99% of the time leave it be if your only alternative is the Harbor Freight seal. The factory o-rings are typically much better quality etc. The higher set idle on the Isuzu is due to it being in an air compressor. The older air compressors, especially the smaller ones didn't have much if any bypass to prevent excessive load from the air compressor building air on start up. So to help compensate they set a higher low idle speed. Almost all industrial air compressors have a higher low idle speed, the larger ones are usually designed to low idle for a few seconds first to get oil flowing.

Lots of other people have said it but yeah its normal to have blowby on a cold engine that hasn't started in a while. Also its not really blowby its called windage there is just wind created by the pistons moving up and down, blowby is more smoky. The engine sounds strong, I think you scored on this one. Also a non turbo will be more reliable. And about the backhoe they can do anything but are bad at everything and wheel loaders are more purpose built. Maybe consider a mini excavator.

A primed oil pump is never easy to turn. Depending on operating conditions they can easily consume 10hp to operate. Avoid the oil additive crap, as there is no such thing as a mechanic in a bottle. Vent your crankcase to atmosphere but not where it will cycle the fumes through your cooling stack. Keep an eye on oil consumption. Re-pin the alternator to the CAT harness, or make an adapter, or just lop the wires off and butt connect them together. Not that complicated, and 200% more reliable than what you are contemplating with an alternator swap.

With that engine sitting for a year or more I wouldn't be concerned one bit about the small amount of wind. I would however definitely run the overhead on it. Beings that it was an air compressor engine it probably did more idling than anything. It sounds great and normally the video camera makes sounds from an engine way worse. It's to bad you couldn't have put en elbow on factory oil drain plug and ran pipe out to wear it was more accessible. The side drain plug is going to leave quite a bit of old oil in the pan. One more thing Brayden I kinda think you prob should have left the factory oil pump in there, it looks like you replaced it with a Chinese knockoff and the quality isn’t as good, the reason why the oem was harder to turn is because it is a gear pump with tighter tolerances, the Chinese one seemed looser and could give you lower oil pressure and fail sooner, I could be wrong idk it’s harder to determine stuff when your not physically there in person

What happened to the case backhoe?? If your replacing it I would definitely grab another backhoe over a wheeloader. I'm a mechanic/operator at a gravel pit I know what each machine is best at if your going to be loading trucks with dirt and plowing snow a wheel loader is great. But a backhoe has so many more uses for a average Joe at home from lifting stuff to digging a hole or trench/septic plowing snow loading small trucks dragging heavy crap around etc. I was going to say you should weld a chain hook on your backhoe bucket way better for lifting stuff vs tossing the chain on the teeth. I wouldn't recommend running and diesel on ether thats how rings get broken if you have fuel injecting a small whiff is fine to aid starting and definitely don't use glow plugs and ether at the same time haha. It sucks that engine has a timing belt because probably every diesel engine is a interference engine if your cam stops you will destroy stuff valves at minimum likely pistons too. If you use that engine I would replace that timing belt before it goes in. I wouldn't be too concerned with the blow by if that engine sat around alot the rings might be a little gummy it might go away with a good days work it might not but more importantly it wasn't smoking out the exhaust once it was running for a few seconds which is healthy because if it was a steady haze that would mean its tired. Some engines have larger ring gaps factory and they have blowby new maybe this is one. For as good as it runs and fires up I wouldn't think twice to pop it in after doing that timing belt. I'd like to own a backhoe myself I have a industrial loader tractor but I'd like a backhoe too I have my eyes on a 80s ford 755A backhoe but idk if I can get my hands on it. If you decide to use this engine you could probably sell that perkins very easily once its rebuilt for a damn good chunk of change. I know them perkapillers weren't very good engines I was told the oil pump are a terrible design and one of the biggest threats to them is when they are cold and people rev them up right away without letting the oil warm up it destroys the oil pump then the engine is short lived
@BradenBuildz11 ай бұрын

Curious as to what you're using for a fuel return to the fuel jug. I don't see one...?? You commented on why you didn't want to rebuild, due to line bore throwing things off. Shouldn't - line bore is very precise as to centering the cutters in the bore. Metal removal would be even all the way around and change nothing. Have at 'er, son. Have fun with it.
