I paid 8K for my 68 Satellite about 12 years ago and it is still my daily driver. It was drivable with a 273 V8 but I put a nasty carb swapped 5.9 Magnum in it with a Hughes cam. I'm running 8.60s in the eighth all motor now with a bunch of modern cars that need nitrous or boost to get there and I have LOTS of room for improvement. Hoping to hit 7.99 all motor before I try my 100 shot.

Your transmission from sitting all those years probably needs need seals front to back. While that's being done check all the clutch packs and you'll be trouble free for years to come. Good luck and your car looks solid!

That "Popping" sound was a bad spark plug that wasn't firing at first and then once the engine warmed up it started pickup and firing, but of course the cylinder was full of fuel so it was a bigger "Pop" than usual. Pretty common thing up here in the North on older engines.

@@yeehaw3792 440 has a slightly different sound than even a 383. If you had a 440, 383, ford 428, gm 454 sitting in a row with the same exhaust, you'd gravitate to the back of the 440 car every time.

@@Ray56z In what way? Combustion sounds the same. Maybe it varies with compression ration and obviously exhaust but that's about it.

Nice car! I would invest in a tear down gasket kit with it having sat that long. You know the valve stem seals are most likely shot. I will bet they played a part in the smoke exiting the exhaust as you were going down the track. Its just a good investment and gives you a chance to visually inspect the pistons, cylinders, valves, clean out any crap in the oil pan, and valve seal pieces in the oil pump pickup screen. That and replacing other gaskets and seals couldn't hurt as you found out with the transmission. I'd also get after the rear transmission seal and the one for where the valve body connects to the shifter linkage if you didn't already change it while you had it down to fix the band adjuster. Its a lot of time and work to replace mostly low cost parts but can preserve the engine and save you more expensive repairs later.

How could anyone not love this old girl.... she's a great example of a 68 Satellite (with an amazing 440-6 which makes her that much sweeter). I'd polish her and stick the headliner up and take her to church and show her off. LOL... Yup - I think she's a keeper. I’m rebuilding a 1964 Polara and feel very happy that I got hold of it after 3 months of negotiation… it’s a fun project . I got it running and 80% of the way but decided to take it apart and give it a more in depth built focusing on creating a burnout machine. Fun at age 63. It’s not my first Mopar.. Ive had a 66 Satellite … a 70 Satellite…. Both lost due to ignorance. The car you have is the a great example of my generation and I hope you keep it running preferably a daily driver and never sell it. It’s a lost time machine… when I was young all my friends and I drove muscle cars. That was back when nobody wanted them. We got them for $1000 +or- Love your car and your attitude.

There were a lot of 440's in my family growing up. At one time, my mom, brother, grandmother and grandfather were all driving cars with 440's. 68 Chrysler New Yorker with a 440 TNT, 69 New Yorker with stock 440, 68 Fury with a 440 Commando, 69 GTX with a 440 Commando. I can definitely testify they can be a challenge to start on a cold winter morning!

Those were very fast cars in the day. It was also hard to tune. A 650 double pumper times two will work well also. Very valuable if presented right. Headliner is a big must. Nice find. Never a six pack fan. Not many out there. Love the channel.

They are not that hard you gotta know basic carbureted tech but they can be hard to beginners and guys that have never tuned 2 bbl carbs

@@79tazman I had a new GTO in 66. Raced it some and rebuilt the carbs several times. Tuning was a issue for all of us back then. But I will admit, I do have the trophies to show for it. The three duces were for street, hardly used on the track in the late fifties and all of sixties. May have been a Midwest thing.

Ya its a GS California. It was just a body and frame when I got it. She is going through a full restoration. I found a donor skylark for interior. I couldn't find a Buick v8 worth rebuilding so i built a chevy small block for it.

@@chadhaire1711 a good running sixpack with traction should EASILY get low 13’s. Possibly dip high 12’s. I grew up with these things when they were new. I’ve owned a few. I know what they can do. My stock 68 GTS 340 ran high 13’s.

@@MoParRus340 "with traction"...you mean not stock, that could apply to anything. 100% stock the 440-6 was 13.8 tops, the 426 was 13.6 tops.......and since the 440-6 is only 325 SAE net horsepower, and the 426 was only 350 SAE NET, it is not going to get any quicker. A 2021 5.7 puts out more hp at 375 SAE NET, and runs 13.6--quicker than 440-6 IN SPITE OF BEING 400 pounds heavier. Do the math. I know what they do too--and what they DONT DO. The old cars were OVER RATED in horsepower and over rated in 1/4 mile times....newer is better. Spend a week in a 485 hp (real horsepower SAE NET, not the fake GROSS pre-1971 ratings) SRT Charger 392....makes it easy to forget those old rust buckets...I did long ago.

Reaction time has no affect on ET. You could sit there for an hour, the clock starts when the car moves. RT only matters in bracket or heads up racing, not fun running to see what ET the car runs.

Hi Dillon , me again, I just gotta tell you about my best ever mopar. I'm early 70s I found a black plymouth, black final roof, red leather interior, GTX, at a Chevy dealership, sitting in the back fenced in lot. I was looking for a 70 ls6 Chevrolet S/S. I knew the dealership owner, bought a few rides from him ( used), and he told me he had something I'd be interested in, and he got the keys and we went to the back lot. A rich dad had bought the ttc for his son, they never liked it couldn't keep it running. I started it up it barely would run. I shut it down, bought it ( price is unbelieveable). I went home got my dodge pickup and trailer and picked her up. I got home and was so excited, because what is scored was a '69 Hemi GTX!!! Dual quad, 4speed pistol grip 4- speed. It had only less than 20000 miles. I went to work on it, knowing most of the problems. I drained oil, New filter, drained the regular has ( yes reguluar!), Put Sunoco 260 in it, plus some octane boost, flushed coolant replaced, also drained brake fluid, bled brakes, then fired it up, it ran better but somebody had the carbs messed up they'd screwed the mix screws downwardly tight, fuel floats too high, so I pulled the carbs off took them to Bob's speed shop had them refurbished. While that was being doe, I pulled distributor cap, and only one set of points! So I pulled plugs points condenser, wires, everything out of dist. Put all mopar parts in. Set everything by mopar performance ( direct connection) changed tranny hear oil, rear gear oil. While I waited I detailed her from top to bottom, bumper to bumper, inside and out. The red leather was perfect , paint too came up perfect, she was impressively beautiful. Carbs came back, and Bob from Bob's speed shop helped me set them up. All he asked was to take it for a drive! This car was totally badass! I had to learn how to drive her, come out of the hole, etc. It was beautiful and awesome to own n drive. I loved it. I'll tell you where it went and still is, the man who bought it left it to his son, it has had and still has a great home. I'll say one word about why I sold it, ( wife from hell!!!)

I can't... I just can't figure out why people remove chokes... My '83 CHevy C20 I just picked up has had the choke plate removed from the Quadrajet... I just don't understand WHY people do this, these aren't race engines or race cars, they're street cars and they need the choke! Then again.. The same truck I mentioned had all the brake lines rounded and chewy like someone used only pliers to try to do the brakes. Cool car though! But man the overspray on this thing is baaaad! That would drive me insane on a car this nice!

@NuBz You must live somewhere there is no winter, maybe the magical land of California? Yeah you try starting a carbureted engine in below freezing weather without a choke. They exist because the air density changes with temperature making the fuel mixture too lean when it's cold out, causing hard starts or no start conditions. Science, look it up, unless that's considered blasphemy in your little corner of the Earth.

I did a 68 Sport Satalite to GTX clone 20 yrs ago, 74 440 out of a Chrysler new yorker...bored. 30 over, home ported heads, mopar. 509 cam, six pack, 4.10s out back with a 3500 converter was doing 12.60s and driving it daily. You got a good platform to start! Keep up the good work and just refresh what you got and smash on it!
