Isn't getting an engine running, (after you put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it), the best feeling in the world? EXCELLENT JOB!!!! Great to see your success!! If a person has never done what you guys did, they will NEVER UNDERSTAND!!!

Glad y'all got it going but that oil looked rough. I think I would have changed that before trying to start it. Also, when you put your hand over the intake on a diesel it just shuts off the air. It doesn't act like a choke on a gas engine.

Looks like an early 60s vintage John Deere tractor. I've got one that's been sitting in my yard for 15 years. It's gas-fired, and I know that water got in the engine, but I hope to get it rebuilt one of these days and have it running again.

That’s a 30 or 40 series utility tractor made the same time as the 4430’s or 4440’s. Made in the 70’s or 80’s. I had a 2640 looked very similar.

Brilliant work. That John Deere was stubborn. For diesels it helps to put two large batteries in parallel to reduce voltage drop and increase the starting current.

When the engine starts to knock and slow down while you are spraying either in the intake it is too much and is either locking basically it cant compress the atomized either so it slows the rotation and you hear the knock. Stop spraying and let the engine start to clear out before you spray it again.
@I_Am_Your_Problem5 ай бұрын
Trumptards... not real good on da ejication. It is pre-ignition son. Propagation rate of ether is faster than that of diesel, hence the knock. "Atomized ether" is compressible, and thus NOT causing a knock condition.

A flame on a stick next to the intake or a propane torch heating the intake while starting helps if the glow plugs are weak. And a torch down the cylinder of the rings are stuck helps loosen those aswell the. A little diesel and oil mixed while they are cooling works every time

My way of starting engines that have been dormant for years I heat some engine oil and pour it in through the air vent, this hot oil reaches the piston head and causes the compression of the engine to increase, which results in the engine starting easily. But regarding this tractor, it seems that the fuel does not reach the injector and the pump has a problem

Just put a tube in a front tire like that, and you won't have to keep messing with it like that...eliminates any potential rim leaks, or cracks in the tire...just check and make sure there are no foreign objects poking through the tire that might puncture the tube first...
@phase2projects3637 ай бұрын
Do a compression test before condemning the engine. Hook up the injectors outside of the engine, to look at spray pattern. Could easily be smoke from injectors. Could be timing too if someone has messed with the engine before.

I did not see it in the video, but if you have water in your oil you should always drain the oil first before trying to crank, the water will have separated and will be at the bottom, when you crank it over your just mixing the water and oil and then sending it through the motor. That is a diesel motor and will run along time but for the love drain that crap out first. its no hard done if there is no water in the oil good ahead and crank away,

Now that it's running, you should pull apart the engine and transmission and put new piston rings in it. Service it from top to bottom. New hydraulic lines would do that old bucket assembly a world of good.
