I’m proper happy with this Alfa and the engine bay is looking much nicer! There’s an issue with the Audio at 7:48, apologies!

The front lower control arms are almost "consumable" on the V6 Alfas of this vintage, mainly due to weight over the front wheels. Not especially expensive to replace, but they generally only last 4-5 years (50-60,000km). Change them, and you will notice the difference. But a good set of adjustable coilovers will make it an entirely different beast. Alternatively (I can't tell from the video if its already fitted) the factory "sport pack" suspension - which is basically just shorter firmer springs that lower ride height by 25mm - transforms handling in terms of roll and pitch with minimal impact on ride quality. All three of my 156s have had either the sport pack or coilovers and had almost no body roll, and would really stick in the corners, best handling FWDs I've ever driven. In comparison, the ones I've driven with "stock" springs and ride height roll like an old boat in a storm. Totally different.

Definitely an old boat in a storm 😂 coil overs are definitely on the list, zendar body kit, maybe hotter cams, LSD etc. the list goes on.

@@Project40Cars your car so your choice, it's all down to personal taste. To my eye, any body kit (bar a very discreet and small bootlid spoiler perhaps) would be a mistake on a 166. All it really needs is to be lowered a bit, with maybe a bit of extra negative camber.

@@johnphaceas7434 it’s a very subtle kit www.shop.autods.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=113&zenid=2d31c96ef4deb37d6414d2ef3a40363e Basically lower spoilers all round.

@@Project40Cars BTW, nice job on the engine bay. Reward for a bit of effort. Be interested to know how long the plastic fairings retain their colour after silicon spray.

Yeah some how that channel got unmuted during the final edit 🤦unfortunately there’s no way to fix it without reuploading.

I have to disagree on the handling, definitely a soft car especially with the big sidewall tires but extremely capable and well balanced for its size. Alfa put a massive amount into making this their flagship and its by far the most sorted car on the platform. If you're lacking feedback from the steering I'd suggest there could be some tired components in the front end as the quick and direct rack is one of the high points.

Agreed, I think a full suspension refresh is needed.

@@Project40Cars Good luck, they take some sorting out with part scarcity but well worth it once they are. Garage 21/italiparts are 166 specialists so worth keeping in mind.

I‘d have loved if it were RWD.it truly would have made a huge diff.Agivingnother good thing that Alfa could have done is to sell the engine rights to Cosworth.I love the idea of a Busso engine revving to 11000 RPMs
@Project40Cars5 ай бұрын
That would be epic! I think the FWD really hurt it against BMW/Mercedes. A premium car shouldn’t have torque steer.
@johnphaceas74345 ай бұрын
You can probably fit a Q2 (factory option for most post-2000 cars with the 3.0 and 3.2 Bussos ) or Quaiffe diff- which eliminates torque steer and also saves the gearbox on the GTA from exploding ...
@Project40Cars5 ай бұрын
@@johnphaceas7434 that would be ace, I started looking for an LSD but will likely wait until I need a new clutch. Quaife the go to?
@johnphaceas74345 ай бұрын
@@Project40Cars probably easier to procure a Quaiffe these days than a Q2 (though the current gen Giulia and Stelvio have a Q2 badge on the boot too, I assume its totally different). What transmission is in your 166? All Australian 166s had a conventional torque converter auto, no manuals imported here.
