Part 3 of 3: When I finally throw the towel in on the 1956 Buick Special, I'm still 650 miles from home. So I did the right thing and bought a 1987 chevy k1500 (4x4) sight unseen to pull it the rest of the way home. Will this new to me old clapped out truck make it, or will I end up with two vehicles broken down? Watch and find out!

Im always curious, who actually dislikes these videos? Like its just a man driving cross country lol what is there to dislike? People are strange
@FonicsSuck
@FonicsSuck 3 жыл бұрын
I think I figured it out. Some people actually use the button for what I think might be its intended purpose, which would be to adjust their recommendations. Perhaps they watched the video and said "Its not bad but its not what I'm looking for" and hit the dislike button. That is about the only rationale I can think of beside people just being entirely too miserable.

Man I've just finished a 15hour shift on a construction site in England. I'm away from my woman and children and sleeping in my camper. It's snowed for almost 24 hours straight. I'm worn out and tired and the end of this video just made me cry like a baby. Family is genuinely everything!! especially to a working man. I love you Derek. Your videos are a real treat for me after a long day when I'm not going home to the family. Thank you brother.

It's hard to do with a family but I do what I can when I can. Feels like he's there with me when I work on the ol' girl, probably laughing at me as I fumble around. I'd like to start by saying, I really enjoy watching your videos, sir. Entertaining and informative. Plus, you honestly seem like you are enjoying what you do. And you seem like just an all around good person. Now, that said, I am jealous of you and envy you. Why jealous? Well, I lost my father in 1992 when I was 10, the memories you spoke of so fondly, I don't have, I have a few, but not that many. So, I envy you for having all the years and memories with your father. I've been an mechanic for going on 30 years now, really enjoy seeing all the vehicles you put back on the road. Especially, 70's Ford pick-ups. I am a bit bias on them as I have the 74 F-100 my father used to drive. Anyway, I feel like I have made a fool of myself and am rambling now. Y'all take care.

Derek you and your personality crack me up, and at 75 I know funny! Love your dry humor ! Your the kind of guy you meet a few times in a life time and it seems like we have known each other for the last 20, 30 years ! These videos on the 56 Buick reminds me of a Two tone 56 Buick special that I inherited from my Uncle Tom! Loved that car! It was indestructible, and just kept running! It was actually my mothers car , but she did not drive! So it fell to me to keep it up and drive! I was on the way to the parts store to get a battery for my 67 Pontiac Firebird stoped at a red light to turn left adjacent to a chevron station in town , as I came to a stop ,unbeknownst to me there was a bad leak in the fuel line at the fuel pump! The engine compartment blew up! Sounded like a really big Mortar going off! Black smoke started billowing out of the fender wells and hood seems! I popped the hood , black smoke and orange red flames billowed and blew me backwards! I was frantic! I ran over to the chevron station yelling for help! The one attendant / mechanic was in the bathroom, came out I pointed to the car at the intersection on fire! Said can I barrow a fire extinguisher? He said sure! Grabbed one off the wall and threw it to me, ran out to the car and put the fire out, it was a dry chemical extinguisher and made a mess of everything! But put the fire out . Then turned the motor off as I had forgotten to turn it off in the excitement! Hence the continued fire! I walked back to the gas station gave back the extinguisher 🧯 said thank you ! I walked back to the Buick looked at the smoldering mess of burned parts and charred wiring , wondering what I was going to do? Turned the key on stepped on the starter , it started I jumped out closed the hood and drove home and parked it ! Till I could fix the charred wires and fuel pump leak! When I thought about it and how it must have looked from a bi standers outlook , especially the gas station attendant I laughed my ass of and still do every time I remember that incident! Most cars would have burned to the ground! Especially since I forgot to turn it off after it exploded into flame 🔥? That car kept running right up to when we sold it to a guy that wanted to restore it and made a little extra money for my Mom! Indestructible! LOL like I say reminds me of your show! That was after coming back from the Vietnam war! As I am Marine veteran! I went into the Automobile restoration business! I retired in 2015, I really miss the business! But I live vicariously through shows like yours on Motor Trend! And working on my 1949 Plymouth business coupe, which has a 318 small block Mopar in it! I watch Uncle Tony’s garage too , and David Vizar also as I need to rebuild the motor in the process! Keep up the good work really enjoy your videos!!! Regards Mad Mike S.

When you started driving that Buick home, you reminded me of my own optimism. I once bought a '55 Studebaker , flew to Los Angeles, and hopped in to drive it home to Wyoming. The old flathead six seemed to be running great, right up to the point where it threw a rod and puked it's innards all over the highway! When I opened the hood, there was a four-inch long chunk of camshaft laying on the fenderwell dripping oil. you could reach into the crankcase through the huge hole in the block! She rode home on a trailer too, but at least I enjoyed watching that lovely Studebaker front end in my rearview mirror all the way home! When I stopped to pick up a couple hitchhikers on the Navajo reservation, I realized only one could ride in the truck with me, so the second guy hopped in the Studebaker and rode on the trailer with her! He loved the experience - couldn't have been happier!

My dad just passed away on December 9th. I was fortunate to have him for 51 years, never take life for granted. Cherish your parents and tell them that you love them, you can never say it enough. Dad, I will get the Biscayne back to her former glory!

I am very sorry for your loss of your dad. He lived only 52 years but he did pass on a lot of his knowledge to you as we all can see. I am happy you have found that Buick and I know you will be keeping it in your family and passing it down to your sons too. I am just sorry you lost your dad at such a young age. Keep up the good work and please video fixing up that truck you are selling to your brother and the Buick too. Thank you.

Glad to see you have returned the car that gave your family memories. When I saw the square body, I was pretty sure you were good. I have a 1986 version, with the 305 and the 700 tranny, a rather rare tranny I have learned but dependable. My 86 has been a life boat from the time I bought it in 1987 until now. NO other vehicle I have owned has matched the reliability. I knew you were good. Tell your brother to clean out the cowel spaces or he will have a rust attack he won't believe. I treated my 86's underside with mineral oil and that pretty much has stopped rust progression. That Buick is beautiful, it was a good trip.

Last bit got me. I lost my Dad in 2002 to cancer. I still have my First Car, a 70 Mustang Convertible. I remember driving it home that first time following Dad, rebuilding it for my 16th birthday, and years later driving it to the cemetery behind the hearse. Your Dad's car, and our Father/son car are where they should be... with the sons.

Not the most saught after, but I eventually got one just as close to the original as possible (only options are better but colors are the same). So I just remember the good ole days...

I've been watching your videos and love this channel! I too lost my dad, in April of this year. I am sorry about your dad. I always appreciated mine and loved him very much and even more now that he is gone. We find ourselves thinking about all of those long days and nights turning wrenches and problem solving....they left us with more knowledge then they knew and I'm thankful for that. I hope I can do the same for my young son. Thanks for sharing your projects! Forever fan from Wentzville, MO.

When I was 12 years old my folks bought a brand new 1955 Buick Century 2drhtp with the big engine. We took it on vacation from Pasadena Ca. to Racine Wi. and back. On the way East, my Pop put his foot to the floor in Wyoming and took it to 116 mph. As fast as it would go. Flat and level. That car rode like a Caddy. If I had the opportunity, as you did, to find that car and own it again, I'd be very happy. So I know just how you are feeling. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane. Love your lingo too. As for the follow up on the truck and the car, I hope you decide to do them. I'll be watching.
