Part 1 of 3: After an exhaustive 10-year search, I found my Late Fathers old 1956 Buick Special 2 door hardtop way down in Texas. Of course, I'm just going to jump in the car and attempt to drive it home 1,200 miles from Texas to Minnesota! Think I'll make it on?

@@ViceGripGarage as I've said before, I've been with you since the sub count was around 83k, and even though we get into your life on the live stream, this is what I've waited for the most, to hear your story, your family memories, what made you, you. A huge thank you for taking me down memory lane with you. And Lance and crew, such a wonderful Christian family. Thank you for giving them a shout out, they got screwed and rumors went to flying around on their old channel. They got done wrong so bad. I follow you and them mainly. I watch a couple others you hang around with when I can stand them lol. But you are a cut above the others and Lance and family are right up there with you, because they're good, honest, clean video folks like yourself. Thanks again Derek. Now my question has been answered when I seen the live stream with you getting out of the old Buick.

Derek, I know you said this video is more for documenting this for your kids/family, but I want to thank you for uploading this for us to see too. This is something I've always wanted to do with my uncles 74 Duster, which I know I'll never find. A blue v8 (does a 340 sound right? I'm not picky on the motor as long as it rumbles) with wide mags on the back. This is inspiration to find even another one like it some day like your current giveaway car. You just dont find those things on the east coast in Canada anymore. The Buick looks amazing, and I'm so happy for you that you've found your old man's Buick. Heck it means a lot to me, I cant believe how much it means to you. Proud of you buddy. -Darian

This almost made me cry seeing this whole thing. My dad passed away last year, and we had a 1965 Skylark that he owned since he was 16. I don't know a lot about cars beyond the basics, and I'm definitely not financially capable of restoring it. It's rough, it's been sitting since 2002 in the yard and is starting to show some bad signs of rust. Seeing this really makes me want to do what I can to fix it, but I'm just so clueless. I've learned a lot from watching your channel and I'm confident I could get it started and running again with a day or two of effort, but I wouldn't even begin to know where to go from there. The interior is shot, it's sitting on 3 flats, I don't know half of where any of the wiring or tubes go or what they do. After seeing this, I'm starting to think I'd regret selling it, but I'm also regretting letting it sit and rot not doing anything with it. I'd love to see it on the road again, and I know it's a solid vehicle... at least it was 20 years ago... My father rebuilt the engine from the ground up when he was in high school. I wish I had more time in the day, and I wish he was still here to restore it like we planned a few years ago.

I totally understand Derek's love for this particular Buick! Just when I think VGG can't possibly get any better - it does! There's a huge amount of nostalgia in cars..... 'specially as a feller gets older. My taste in cars was completely formed by my grandfather's 1967 Chevelle Malibu hardtop coupe (which I fantasize about tracking down someday in an Arizona junk yard - or better yet, totally preserved by a serious Chevy lover!). So I'm gonna sit back and enjoy this vicarious trip down memory lane AND somebody getting a chance to make right something that went terribly wrong.

There's magic and madness in that body, and the colour scheme inside and out is stunning. It's interesting to see that your history with the Restored gentlemen isn't just a modern collaboration too. I sold my granddads 64 c10 that had become my daily driver, 25 years ago. My brother in law found it rotting in a treeline for the last 7 years or so. It's a work in progress, but i try to drive it several times a week. Loved your story.

True that James. My father was never around when I was growing up but I have two boys 3 and 4 years old and I'm gonna make darn sure i can teach them all I know about cars and wrenching. Love how Derek gets his kids involved in some of his projects. And watching what Derek does gives me pointers so hopefully my boys dont end up being braindead and stuck to their phones when they get older.

I am 70 yo now. I was raised by my grandparents. They bought a '55 Roadmaster off the showroom in NJ. Moved to FL in '57, when I was 7. It was blk w/wht roof. Made more than one road trip standing up in the front seat between them, my grandma had a death grip on my legs all the way. Strange way of thinking back in the '50s. Your reference 'like sitting on your grandma's couch' struck a heart string. Thanks for the reminder of the delicate, simple truth that we all held so dear. God Bless.

Hello, ever since I was a little girl, I'm 52yr now, I've always wanted an "old car", to me from the 50's, but not a 55 Chevy everybody has. I found a 1950 Pontiac Silverstreak Chieftain w/2dr hardtop, straight 8 engine, and light up Indian hood ornament for $200 w/ my largest paycheck. I named her Christine after the movie because when my stepdad put the 6volt battery in, I came out one night and sat inside, happy to have my first car. I turned on the radio and the song "Love Me Tender" by Elvis Presley!!😍 She can talk to me thru the radio!! She's been sitting at my friend's for 30+ yrs now. Because of life's roller-coaster I couldn't get to her. Now I'm remarried with more than $200 that I can bring her to me. I really want her to start up like this gentleman revives these older cars from the fields or salvage yards!! I hope he sees my post and send an email to reach him. When Christine wakes up and I turn on her radio, I know she'll sing some love song from somebody, singing🎶"What Took You 🎶So Long To 🎶Come Back 🎶To Me!!"🎶😍

@@elmerlindsay9584 It seems like his father started with him as a young boy to learn about cars, especially with these older cars his father knew alot about. That father-son bond was, and obviously still is, a cherished memory that working and fixing these cars can bring back those feelings. I can hear it in his voice during this taping and it's a wonderful thing to know. God bless all of us.

@@andreabelinda1355 There's something very special about that "first car". In 1977 I was 17 & my first car was a '59 2 door Impala very nice car. I got obsessed with it. We all recall where we were at August 16,1977 when Elvis died. I heard it on the radio at a stop light in my '59 Impala. The '59' is my "Christine". The car is history I regret to say I got into a bad accident..

My father owned a 56 Special (also black and white) in 1963 when I was 10 years old, he bought it in Hawaii when we lived there on Pearl Harbor Navy Base. He loved the car and when we were transferred to Seattle the Navy shipped it from Hawaii to Seattle for us. Dad wasn't a big car guy but he really loved that car. Our whole family of 4 were in the car in Seattle when someone ran a stop sign and hit us hard from the side right where I was sitting behind my Dad. The car was totaled, and Dad was very sad about that and he bought another 56 Special for a parts car to rebuild his, but never got around to doing it. Seeing your car brings back a lot of memories from a whole lot of years ago.

Really enjoyed watching a 3 parts. The memories you have with that care make everything worth it. I'm a huge fan of painting classics back to their original colors. To me it's like preserving history and showing what these cars looked like new. But it's your car and you should do what makes you happy with it. I once bought my 1st car back after 15 years and so much was changed, including the color, that it lost that sentimental feeling and I ended up selling it again a year later. Definitely do whatever makes you enjoy the car the most.

The most beautiful runnig motor I ever experienced was a 1970 cad. 472? It was a low mileage rescue job. The car was a beige on biege? Boat but the engine was sweet. After scraping out the Pensoil and or Quacker State and putting in castrol 20-50 the engine began to guiet down. Then it smoothed out. You could cruise at 85 but at 70 the engine would purr. A powerful but beautiful purring sound... amazing. Thinking back now... I put new AC Delco plugs in,The old ones were carbon fouled. I set the carb to lean best idle, most old cars were set to rich because no1 understood carbon/ heat etc..Also the timing was allways set to far advanced, because lime the air/ feul mixture it sounded better to the untrained ear.
