“It’s easier” is a bad selling point to insurance companies. “It’s cheaper” would make them listen. The longer you can make your foot last, the less it has to be replaced. Better for all around.
@nyxx53572 ай бұрын
It's so dystopian that we have to create sales pitches for necessary modifications to our body parts. "It's easier" and "It's more comfortable" should be enough on their own when it comes to our freaking bodies.
@douglaswolfen78202 ай бұрын
@@nyxx5357 yeah, but for that to happen there would need to be people in the world whose job was to take care of you, and to make your life better, instead of their job being to make money off of you How utterly unthinkable! I mean that's practically a communist nightmare right there… (/s)

They only cover so many supplies in a certain period, and could care less if a person doesn't have a working foot because it wore out. They'll just make the person go without until the time limit has elapsed or pay out of pocket for a new one sooner.

I used to work for a prosthetics company where we made the entire prosthetic right there in the building and we had alot of people who love the beach and the shore used to come in for a cover but it was a different type, what I used to do was make a cover to match your non amputated limb, it was made of foam and the foam was sanded down, shaped to match your other limb (obviously in the case if a double, we would work with the patient and agree on a size, but it was pasted to the socket and then to the foot shell thus covering the ankle and not allowing any dirt sand or dust to get in and also (for those who wanted it) gave the look of a normal (well as close to a normal) leg. People loved it. And some also chose (dont quote me) but I believe it was called EZ Skin Prosthetic Covers.
@kpwxx2 ай бұрын
If you have a moment, I have something I'm curious about! Is there a specific reason there is a gap there that dirt can get in by default? I'm guessing maybe it's to do with allowing a good range of movement, and a permanent cover would itself get damaged more easily so it needs to just slip on top and be changeable. But that's just a guess!

@waffles36292 ай бұрын
Yep, insurance math sucks. Insurance math said one of my meds that is a $20/day was too expensive, so instead they got a $2,600 ER bill...twice in the month it took them to change their minds. Like great, you saved $600...and spent $5,200, that's a whole negative $4,600 in savings. 🤦 Wanna guess what they did a year later? Yep.

Insurance companies are STUPID! They get mad when you incur a charge but when a cheaper in the long term option is given to them in a treatment plan is presented to them they say no. My doctor wants to give my injections into my lower spine to help my SI joints, this is proven to help, but the only way insurance will pay for them is if the doctor wants to do surgery. This is really sad. I am glad this company sent you something that is so useful.

She also has terrible neuropathy in her hands and feet which has made her muscles very weak. I've seen you take your foot shell apart and it's not easy. There is no way she'll have the strength to do that. I can't either as I also have neuropathy and weakness, too. Help! It looks like this may be a huge help. Asking for help all of the time sucks. So cool! (Sometimes I wonder if American insurance companies actually intend for us to stay as disabled as they can make us - i.e. in all the little ways that are hard to quantify or give large voice to, easy for them to brush off as complaints from the ungrateful - in order to stay in business. Having a disability is already harder than not (it's in the name, disability 😂), but the social systems make it even harder to have a disability than not. I just. Anyway. I'm always happy when there's groups trying to make bits of it easier like this.

hi you absolutely do not have to answer this, but i was wondering whats the average heal time for an amputation? im writing a story and one of the mcs loses a hand and another mc close to him counts the days since a traumatic event as a coping mechanism and as a (obviously non-amputee) disabled person id like to be as accurate as possible and get my information from someone with that kind of disability. so like whats the timeline for when its safe to put the prosthetic on and get out of the hospital and take off the bandages and stuff like that? again please dont feel pressured to answer this 😅 i dont have anyone i know irl with an amputation or id just ask them this lowkey personal question im so sorry
@pjp93832 ай бұрын
Hi there, am not an amputee so can't answer your question, but suspect that's a question that should be easily searchable online. What's a little harder is accurately portraying what a person would go through emotionally and physically after the amputation. Not sure if you know this, but there are consultants who specialize in reviewing what others have written, for the purpose of pointing out misinformation, stereotypes, etc. If you're serious about your writing, and especially, if you hope to publish in the future, you might want to look into hiring someone like that.

Hear that, insurance companies, that could save you a LOT of money instead of having to replace the ankle sockets, foot rubber covers, or any other part that doesn't like contact with sand. It takes a tiny, little bit of thinking, a short term mini-Investment to make future replacements far less common. Wanna make a bet that they won't think that far?😂
