Thanks again, Curt, for another great video! Definitely demonstrates how important fuel resistant seals are!

I bought a 1978 275 "turd" and changed out the schrader valve with the help of your video. Judging by the plier marks, someone had been in there before me, so MAYBE it was already changed out, but spending a few dollars for a known-to-be-fuel-resistant schrader valve from Old Coleman Parts, was cheap insurance.

Well, you already answered one question, “How does an l.e.d. Light device ( can’t call it a lantern) look being hit with a wood maul..”awesome”! Why does my 220 D nickel seem brighter than any other 220? All have new gens and mantels, but the D is brighter somehow.

There's always one that's brighter...

can a milspec coleman be run on kerosene? i run an alc cup to preheat coleman fuel milspec anyway, but i'm not sure if it would digest kero with the same jet. Maybe you could do a "Will it run" video on that???

Why doesn’t Coleman sell generators for the 428 duel fuel stove. They only sell the whole valve assembly. For the 414 they sell a generator but the whole valve assembly has the same part number for the 414 and 428. On Coleman website it says the 428 generator is unavailable and to buy the valve assembly replacement. The 414 shows the generator is still available to order. I bought an extra 428 stove and an extra 428 tank and complete valve valve assembly off eBay just to make sure I have a 3 burner that always works. Also have a 414, 425, 502, and a 424 just in case of a stove failure. 8 lanterns and counting - 9 if you count propane.

Stove generators very rarely fail, I've got a bazillion hours on my 413E and it shows no sign of needing any attention. The worst thing about changing a stove generator is how easy it is to break the cleaning rod, its long and thin and brittle from heat cycles. The only time I've ever changed a stove generator I ended up having to change the whole valve because I broke the cleaning rod. In reality I probably didn't need to replace the generator and I probably shouldn't have removed the cleaning rod...

Lantern Lab - my first 428 had such a small flame on all three burners you could hardly see them. I even pumped it an extra 30 times. I took the generator apart and cleaned carbon and heated spring and rod with a torch to burn off carbon. Then hit it very carefully with 4 aught steel wool. No change - that is why I thought the generator was bad. Do you have any other suggestions? Tried to avoid any packing nuts as they showed no sign of leaking with the soapy water test.

So, where can we get the fuel rated schrader valves now?

What about propane? Will a regular valve be ok on a propane 2 burner stove ? Thanks
@LanternLabs4 жыл бұрын
Hard to test propane, it doesn't liquefy under normal pressures unless its very cold...

I have a Petromax 500 cp and new Britelyt 500XL and my question is, will a Shraeder valve stop a fuel leak if the non return valve failed during use? Thanks, Curt !! Mark
@LanternLabs2 жыл бұрын
It would but you would need a way to actuate the schrader valve and the foot valve at the same time. Someone more clever than me could probably figure a rod from the schrader valve down to the foot valve. Honestly the shutoff valve that Coleman used pre-schrader valve is a better solution.

aww salt in a wound. i had my 275 for years i lit it last month and noticed hissing after it was off. i watched your other video and saw the shrader valve i never knew it had, i tried changing it out and it got stuck real bad i tried with multiple tools including the four way tool and nothing. to top it off my dear uncle tried to take it out and mushroomed the edge of the old valve on to the threads now its on their for good. ive looked around including oldcolemanparts.com and no body carries the fuel air tube.

can you test Gasoline in either a stove or lantern? maybe burn a gallon or gas and check the condition of the generator and overall state. people people dont know you can burn regular gasoline and even say it could explode.
@LanternLabs4 жыл бұрын
I probably should try that. My grandfather never burned anything other than regular gasoline...

@@LanternLabs so do i, my main and only problem is the jet prickler breaking (while assembling/disassembling) . i havent found a way to fix up my own yet. of course a little generator cleaning once in a while, but except that no problem running only gasoline.

Myth: Slants (L220/L228) are awesome lanterns. Reality: They look awesome IF you can actually get them to run correctly.
