Mark, sounds like either your vacuum valve is stuck or the switch is worn out and not making contact. The other possible problem may be that an electric relay is faulty. Those older 4runners are fairly basic as far as diagnoses. Play around with it….you’ll figure it out.

My 91 Surf didn't have a problem going into 4 wheel drive but to disengage it you had to reverse for a few feet (fine when off road but when on road not always terribly convenient)

Great video guys! Love watching your escapades. Stump Cross is also a show cave. When they were discovered they were used for access to the mines in the Dale's but because of the incredible stalactites & stalagmites people wanted to see them. These were seen as being safe for anyone to go in without proper caving expertise. There's a huge network of them under the Dale's from the old lead mines leading to Derbyshire x

Cool! ⛄️I had that same 4Runner here in the America I had a dark green one SR5 V6 4WD. 1995! I had a gray one before the 1995 and it was a 1994 but Toyota machined the engine block wrong and the distributor hole was off so the check engine light was always on. They junked the 1994 and gave me a 1995. I also have a 2005 Sport V6 4WD in white with a hood scoop. And my current ride is a 1995 1/2 Tacoma red V6 4WD extended cab. My first 4Runner was a 1988 SR5 V6 4WD. I think I like Toyota trucks. We call that butt crack a plumbers crack. I heard someone peeing in the snow and making yellow snow.

A tip dealing with snow. Kinda ice. It gets us all. Yet. Snow. It's in the tires. The public around me thinks I have a supper vehicle. Snow. Not mattering the depth to a point. My Jeep will go threw it like it's normal dry road. Way not moded. Original. 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Meaning. Zero lift kit. Not even really special tires. They just work. Find a tire and brand that works for you. So far. I can't get stuck. Mine are just a Firestone that are all seasons. The Jeep goes through 6 inches of snow, no problem. I went through a plow job of 2 feet to get into a store. No problem. It's in the tires. I am just sharing.

(none on these roads it seems - I know when I lived in the UK I didn't - nor did I need them ever, the snow was "the right kind" when I was getting about- only needed / mandated, when I was travelling in Europe in winter. + winter tyres)

You got a taste of NY winters. It's wet snow. Makes it that much more slippery. The one thing about my Silverado (Pickup Truck) It's just a matter of turning a knob. (2 High, AWD, 4 high and 4 low) Pulled a co-worker out of a ditch with my truck. Also helped a Tractor Trailer driver too. It's cool you helped people as well. I swear. When you change it from 4wd to 2wd but the light on the dash still says 4wd, try reversing a foot or two to help it disengage often that's all it needs

This ISN'T snow... this is just a dusting compared to what we get here in Chicago . We have seen 12 inches in just a few hours overnight. It's the day after Xmas and it was 53f at midnight. Not a bit of snow this holiday. But when it does come we get socked in and I haven't left my house in 3 to 5 days before. Now I live on a dead end street and a Police officer lives at the end so we get plowed out first before the rest of my town which is nice. People do forget how to drive as soon as we get a few inches though, that must be universal?
