I hope he can achieve this in the next 15 years I would really love to live for that long. In fact 1500 years would be pretty good for me.

this guy is about to solve aging, and the interviewer cares and asks many times "yeah but how it will affect insurance portfolios" i am genuinely disgusted. and his English is far from perfect, yet he is a managing director?

Well that is his area of work-insurance. Hence it is sort of clear why he would try to relate this outcome to his industry. Also the video is sponsored by the insurance guys so it's sort of necessary.

From the perspective of another 6-years, deGrey’s expectation of the tripling of life expectancy in mouse models within 5-years, has not emerged, we remain in the 30% realm. This technology remains in the 25-30-year time frame. A little like clean fusion power generation, 30-years from the date you are talking about it.

What's the effect on insurance? A lot more money since their customers won't be dying and taking claims as frequently.
@atlien991
@atlien991 8 жыл бұрын
+Stinger Bee Insurance competitors, with the lower claim rate you speak of, will enter the market with close to zero premiums and still be able to make money. This will effectively kill the industry, leaving a couple of players around with slim margins.

It's an interesting piece of math. We actually have a somewhat reasonable 'ceiling' on how healthy we want to be. People don't go to the doctor when they feel a little poopy. They go when they feel sad. So, as the medical interventions advance, ostensibly there should be a ceiling where we actually don't want 'more' health in the near-term future. We just want to be healthy. And once those interventions are found, they can come down in price. One of the greatest pieces of insurance savings we could discover is one of the Alzheimer's charities funding an intervention that works in some significant way. Medicare costs on that front would then plummet. And, etc. for all diseases of aging.

Wouldn't women still go through menopause? The amount of eggs a woman has is finite, regardless of how long she lives.

Aubrey de Grey IMO is focusing on the wrong things. Repairing is not getting at the cause. Also, to my knowledge he has had no notable successes while other scientists have.

Humans will not live to be 1000 years old until the 2nd Coming. After the Great Flood God set man’s age limit at 120 years. Your investors will be heavily disappointed. Genesis 6:3 - Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”
