This is the first closeup I’ve ever seen of his keyboard and I love it so much. All the decorations are so ornate, the keys are so pretty, and you can see where his fingers have rubbed off coloring; it feels very loved.

7 is an impossible number to achieve with one dice , it is literally too good to be true. yet, it is also the most commonly rolled number with two dice. Perhaps this means that the most normal is a place of privilege but also impossible to achieve. So for millie to roll a seven is for her to be impossibly normal, and thus not real. Or sth like that idk.

I think rolling a seven refers to the dice game craps. I've never played craps and just skimmed the Wikipedia page, so maybe someone who has can explain this to us, but rolling a seven seems to be a neutral move; it can be a win or a loss, depending on the current state of the game. I think this matches up well to the final title, "...well, better than the alternative", which refers to the sentiment that aging is better than the alternative (that being death). Both titles are expressing the feeling that whatever is going on may not be what the narrator wants, but is still better than the other choice (losing or dying).

I thought it was a Dungeons and Dragons thing (that game primarily uses 20 sided dice), which makes sense with what Will Wood has said about his totally-not-fictional daughter Millie being inspired by Eleven from Stranger Things, a show that heavily features Dungeons And Dragons for foreshadowing in the plot
