Pesticides could be a solution just as bad as the problem to contain it... Accidents always happen, whether nuclear, the grid, food poisoning, epidemics, etc... I can definitely see the benefits (albeit not appetizing to me, personally), but more thought needs to be given towards risk management...

Trying to feed every single person out of the billions on Earth with 'ordinary' meat will require resources beyond the planet's scope, even if no one unfairly hoarded them, to say nothing of the massive ecological/environmental damage inherent in production. Nah, the problem is people living in deserts and shocked that there's no food. Of course foods are abundant and enough for everyone. But why oh why do you expect the countries with excess food to fly their foods across the ocean for desert dwelling people living in the middle of nowhere? Even so, some of that is happening right now. Continuos aids has been given to these people and it doesn't make their life better it makes their life worst. It make it unprofitable for local farmers to farm thus there are no agriculture in their land thus they will always depend on foreign aid. And it make them cling to barren lands with nothing in it because someone else will feed them. The point of my rant is constant foreign aid destroy the community and the people.

We do not need a “new alternative” to feed the growing population. We need to alter our eating habits to efficiently use the food that IS available. The simplicity of this idea is less appealing then eating bugs, but it could have a profound effect on the worlds food supply. Yes, crickets can be a “complete” protein source similar to chicken, but thats because they eat the same thing as a chicken. Corn, soy, grains etc. These crops go into the livestock/insect feed. If the insect is being ground into a “protein powder” at the end of its life...could the same thing not be done with crops that feed that insect? A plant based diet, rich enough in calories and varied in protein can provide the equivalent nutrition (proteins, amino acids etc) with less waste. Regarding the Plant vs Animal protein debate...a variety of foods are needed in a plant based diet to have a nutritionally complete diet. Similarly, one cannot live off of just animal protein, they too need a variety of foods to have a nutritionally complete diet. Note: using post consumer waste to feed insects could be a better alternative, but how does one do that safely? Insects truly “are what they eat”. Perhaps we’ll just feed those bugs to other forms of livestock. Livestock production will increase, thereby solving world hunger. Super Efficient.
