With the expansive and remastering of Xbox backwards compatibility, the ecosystem, gamepads, achievements, UI and UX. Plus the default controller out of the box with that button layout. There's no reason to fully migrate to my PlayStation. I could give two shits about exclusives, that's for fanboys, hey it warms up my PlayStation everytime one of those comes out and I always go back. But that's my preference.

No one is even looking at the state of PS. No one is saying the obvious, Sony isn't doing good as a business. Sony current stock price are trading less than Gamestop. WHAT!? Leadership shakeups, historic number of SIE network hacks and system compromises, and the price gouging of their products, 1st party game cancellations, money hatted purchases. From the outside SIE may look good, but in the background as a business, PS are hiding their many many failures. If Xbox does the rumored PC/Console hybrid, then I will do that or just do PC. PS are releasing their full slate to PC anyway.

The funny thing about all of this is that Sony will go multiplatform too. They’re just waiting for Microsoft to go first. The solution to all of PlayStation financial woes is to increase revenue by selling games to the 30 million Xbox customers just sitting there.

Mike is complaining about not having the money, so why even consider going to PlayStation where the cost of three games is more than a year of Gamepass? Going over to PlayStation because Xbox games are going over is counterproductive unless you're rich, or only play one or two games a year. Despite having more games on PS you'll end up playing less games anyway because of the cost. Not to mention having to re-purchase games that are already in your Xbox library. Whether you buy Xbox console or PC, I'd recommend staying within the Xbox ecosystem.

I have been in the Xbox ecosystem since June 2024. Before this I was mainly a PC Steam user since 2012 and PS player Ps2-PS4. Since going to Xbox ecosystem I barely open my Steam. I have zero desire to purchase anything PS has to offer. Going back to console has been amazing, I have a desk job and when I get home I don’t want to sit at a desk anymore to play. The value of gamepass is just absurd. I just purchased a used copy of lost odyssey and it downloaded 22GB update. Xbox ecosystem is better for collectors. Plus cross save for certain games. PC is also not the cost savings it use to be. I need to upgrade my cpu, ram, and motherboard. The cost to “future proof” will likely cost the price of a console.

I think it’s pretty clear that when it comes to hardware, Microsoft is treating Xbox like Surface Pro. They’re not trying to compete there. They’re doing all of this just to avoid being put in the same category as Sega. That to this day people talk about the Ls of the Saturn and Dreamcast. Their pivot is to become a 3rd party developer that has some hardware. They make their money putting software on PCs other people make. But they still need companies like Nvidia, like they always need Sony. I’m fully on PlayStation, but I totally bought into the og Xbox and the 360. I still have all those games. I don’t see a reason to buy whatever the next Xbox is. I don’t see that same energy and commitment.

Unlike other parents that give their kids phones for their birthday I gave my 10 year old son an Xbox series X and 3 months of Game Pass ultimate and he's been in love with it ever since and ever since then I've been paying for his Game Pass subscription for 3 months and he's pretty much playing Xbox and I recommend a lot of people to teach their children to love Xbox or PlayStation at an early age because for some reason parents are not giving them the real machine for gaming instead they're giving them Apple phones.

The biggest problem here is that none of these guys are down to earth any more. Boots on the ground why do people want an Xbox…gamepass. For most of us who are money limited, gamepass offers the best value for money subscription right now. It allows those with limited money to play all the first party games for a committed single price. Buy a PlayStation and I’m looking at played maybe 2-3 of those games a year for the same cost.

I'm like Mike right now and stuggling. I'm a Playstation boy, but had a 360 back in the days. Recently, I'm feeling hype for games like Avowed and South of Midnight. I'm really debating where to invest to a Xbox Library : Xbox App or Steam. If I buy an Xbox, I'll have all my game in the OS. On Steam, I will not have those game in my Xbox library in the future if I buy a console. It's cool to play those game anywhere, but it's getting complicated WHERE i should invest.

I'll say this, there hardware still has a shot at making an impact if the hardware itself is innovative. If its just a run of the mil, more powerful Xbox, its very likely cooked. However, if it does something that bring huge value to the consumer, like completely changes how we play games or gives us options that are streamlines beautifully we can't get anywhere else, then it could find a place. They would have to find something new which neither Xbox or Playstation has done on a large scale in perhaps decades.

Why do people like exclusives, is having a game that only you can play worth not playing with friends. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if everyone can hop on helldivers 2 together or play sea of thieves together. I get wanting exclusives on a corporate level, to sell an ecosystem but I never will get the reason why customers want walls on their fun Game pass is the best deal in gaming, I have played hundreds of games the past few years using it, when previously I would only buy 3-5 new games a year and you get every game that comes out on day one, and you can play on Xbox or pc. It’s literally the best of both worlds and I don’t get the hate In this day and age, you don’t own your games anymore. If you buy a game, it’s a digital game that can be removed at any point by Microsoft. Why would you want to play on PlayStation and buy these games and maybe lose them in the future, vs just paying on game pass and and if the games disappear in the future, I never bought them so I’m not losing anything. There’s a lot of nuances to this that people ignore.

GamesPass just does not work for everyone. As someone with maybe 1-2hrs of playtime a week due to work, gym, friends, family, my relationship, other hobbies, the idea of Games Pass is both a bad deal and a bad time. If I wanted to play Yakuza 0 it would take me maybe 12-18 months to beat it. If it vanishes in the meantime I would then have to buy it to finish it on top of subscribing to the GamesPass service, ending up costing me more in the long term. GamesPass and games as a subscription just does not work for everyone and therefore isn't even a selling point for Xbox for me

I got a PC at the beginning of last year after only using xbox for the previous 15 years. I almost only use Gamepass for my games on PC because it's the most cost effective way to have a large library of games on a new platform. I have since got a new TV and have been using my series X again the last month or so and I am still impressed by how good the ecosystem is. Many of my saves go back and forth from PC and quick resume is seriously impressive and I think even faster than I remember. I truly do not understand the desire to switch platforms for maybe 2 exclusive games a year. I already can't keep up with Gamepass

If you love games or consider yourself a hardcore gamer and don't have Game Pass, I don't know what you're doing. If you don't want the Xbox hardware that's fine. Xbox console is a cheaper/convenient option than pc(without online) On Xbox/pc 1st Eco system is better, I think And I’m a ps2 to 5 & switch person and had/got a 1650ti gaming laptop(2020), when I play football manager(on steam)😆 But I did have a series x, for starfield😭 but gamepass is the best, for new releases then get physical, 2nd hand(ps & switch)😀 At the end of the day. PlayStation games are great, I bought a ps4, binge played through all the top exclusives I wanted to play, then resold it. I’ll probably do the same with a ps5 at the end of its lifecycle. The switch is my second console.

If you are a PC player, Xbox is the way, you can play on PC for the pc benefits or on an xbox for a more casual gaming experience, and with xbox play anywhere you can take your saves with you. PS multiplayer games are either nonexistent or are already on pc day and date. Lastly, gamepass is the easiest entry into the ecosystem. The value is ridiculous, and I hope games come to Nitendo as well, so we have more portability options with the play anywhere feature.

The reason you would own Xbox is the other than just gamepass is the fact that you can move your games to multiple devices other than it being stuck on one device. They are saying Steam can do that too. So if you are getting PlayStation exclusives on steam why not just buy everything there? Why own a PlayStation next gen? If you are saying gamepass doesn’t matter to you because you get review codes then you are not grounded with the audience you are trying to convince. Phil has said that the next console will sell itself by the way they are going to innovate in hardware. So wait and see if those innovations speak to you or not. Any talk of Nintendo games coming PS5 or PC always sounds so delusional. It's like ignoring the fact that Xbox's current strategy is because their traditional console business has fucking cratered at a time when their parent company is looking for growth and to recoup the $70 Billion they recently spent. I am not excited about Xbox Future. Why? Games, Marketing & the Console itself dosen't feel like Xbox anymore. The nostalgia needs to be recaptured. The other element of this discussion that you didn't discuss is why would publishers also go out of their way to create and maintain a Windows Store version of their game, when they can just create a Steam version (if the new PC-Xbox Hybrid does have Steam like it's been discussed)? Outside of native GamePass support I don't see why people would choose the current Xbox hardware over PS. PC makes the most sense as it supports GamePass and has access to PC, PS and Xbox games.

Listening to you guys talk about all this stuff...... You keep talking about Xbox figuring out how to make Game Pass do all the things that Steam does. And you're apparently okay with paying extortionate amounts of money for that? When Steam does it for free? All of these Xbox games are coming to Steam anyway. Why would you waste money on Game Pass? If you get them on Steam then all of those saves and stuff synchronize anyway. You have all those games made by Microsoft, but they just automatically do all the things that Steam games do. And you don't have to pay 10 bucks a month for no reason. Did you get insane Steam Sales, where shit is like 90% off frequently. Instead of paying $120, or $240 a year for nothing, why not spend that money on the same games that you want to play on Steam when they go up on an insane sale? There are more games than you could ever fucking play, there's basically no reason to buy anything when it's full price the moment it comes out. It's just going to go on sale and a few months, and in that time you could have played some other game that you wanted to play. You can save yourself thousands of dollars. And if you have Amazon Prime for shipping, then you automatically have twitch Prime, and twitch Prime just fucking gives you like 10 games at a time every few weeks. I think they just gave me the entire Bioshock series for free yesterday? And The Outer Worlds. I think they've given me basically the entire Tomb Raider series at this point, and the entire Deus Ex series, and the entire dishonored series and Shadow of Mordor and most of the Fallout games, and a bunch of Hitman games, and a ton of Doom games, and Prey, and a bunch of Baldur's Gate and Never Winter Nights, and Quake and Oblivion and OXENFREE and Grim Fandango, loads of Warhammer games, Jurassic Park games, Super meat Boy, elite dangerous, predator, some Lord of the Rings dwarf game, Guardians of the Galaxy, which it, killing floor 2, Ghostbusters spirits unleashed, Tales from the Borderlands, a bunch of other Borderlands games, Ninja Turtles games deceive Inc, sunless skies, death loop, rage 2, ghostwire Tokyo, Payday 2, saints row 4 remastered or whatever, evil dead the game alien isolation, Europa universalis, Yooka-Laylee, Rebel Galaxy, void bastards, overcooked, Sonic mania, control, civilization, a bunch of Assassin's Creed games, bunch of walking Dead games, like every goddamn Batman game that's ever been made?, subnautica, etc etc etc And I VERY inconsistently remember to collect my free games. This is JUST the ones I remembered to pick up. I am drowning in video games. I've played maybe 1% of the games that I have, because there's just simply not enough days in a year, or hours in a day to play them all. And the number of these games that I've actually paid for is zero. They were all free. And then you can go to my Steam, and look at the hundreds of games I have there, which I did pay for, but I paid very very little for most of them, because Steam sales are absolutely nuts. So I really struggle with understanding why you guys want Game Pass involved with anything at all in any form ever. Why do you want to subscribe to something that's ridiculously expensive and gives you nothing, when you could spend that money on actually owning games that you choose that you actually want on Steam, in addition to just building up an insane library of free games? If all these Xbox games are just coming to Steam anyway, Game Pass is just completely worthless. You're basically wishing for the ability to of pay them money for no reason whatsoever. And I'm sure Xbox appreciates that, but it doesn't make any fucking sense.

To answer Blessing's question, The next Xbox is definitely not going to sell very well. The current one barely sold. And the next one is going to be even worse. It's going to be one of the worst selling consoles in the history of all major company game systems ever. Like the Wii U is going to have outsold this thing. Is Xbox going to be in a better position once they sell it? No. Not a chance.

@bdizzle9586 That remains to be seen. My guess would be that they've pretty much maxed out their potential GP subscribers. Because their current number of GP subscribers is pretty close to exactly equal to the number of Xbox Series X / S systems that they've managed to sell. Which means that probably not a lot of people are buying GP otherwise for any other system. And that seems unlikely to change. It's pretty unlikely that the number of Xboxes and the number of GP subscribers is virtually identical by just coincidence. By extension, since the next generation of Xbox hardware (if it gets made at all) isn't going to sell well, it's pretty safe to assume that that number of GP subscribers is going to drop off along with the size of the Xbox hardware user base.

Blessing saying that he doesn't think Xbox is looking to sell a hundred million units of the next Xbox is REALLY fucking funny. Because there's no fucking chance that they ever could. No Xbox has ever come remotely close to selling 100 million units. The closest they ever got was the 360 selling 86 million. The Xbone only got to 58 million. The Series X and S COMBINED only sold 32 million. They basically dropped by 30 million every generation. They currently only really have 30 million left. Now I don't think that's going to hold up if they release another set of hardware. I don't think they're going to fully lose another 30 million again, but they're definitely going to lose a lot. Like I wouldn't be shocked if they only sold 10 million. And at that point you have to ask yourself is it even fucking worth the time and effort and money developing new hardware, marketing new hardware, shipping new hardware, manufacturing new hardware, etc? Because according to history, for Xbox, it clearly isn't. There's NO WAY it's going to pay off for them to release new hardware. And that goes for a handheld too. The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are going to be the dominant handheld force, and outside of that, there's just this endless sea of wannabes doing Steamdeck type stuff. An Xbox handheld would just be another one of those. So there's basically no chance that developing hardware for a handheld is going to pay off for them either. That's why I laughed anytime somebody says "Oh, but they're already making a new system and a handheld!" Sure they are, little buddy. Sure they are. Do I think they are? I mean they say they are. And I'll take them at their word for that, and assume that that just means they already greenlit the project a long time ago, before their situation turned into the disaster it is, and now they're so far along that they figure they might as well see it through. But I don't think there's any world where Xbox in 2025 would make the choice to start development on another game console or handheld. I think Xbox knows that they are completely fucked in terms of hardware, and there is no coming back for them. And I will also assume that they know that they're completely fucked in the game industry in general. Phil Spencer might pretend like things are going well (Even though he's really not. He's delivering bad news constantly. He's trying to put a good spin on it, but it's ultimately still bad news all the time.), but I'm sure he can do the math, and he knows that Microsoft wants their money back, and that Xbox has no fucking chance of ever paying it off. I think he knows that Xbox is doomed, and he's basically just there to try and make as much last ditch money as possible before Xbox starts getting sold off by Microsoft for parts, so that Microsoft can recover the money that Xbox owes them. You can go look up the reported profit margins for PlayStation, and we can assume that Xbox is probably roughly the same. Let's assume that Xbox is doing three or four times as good as PlayStation in terms of profit margins. Then we can go look at Xbox's yearly revenue. We can work out roughly what they're yearly profits must be, even in an extremely extremely extremely optimistic scenario, the amount of money that they owe Microsoft is something that they would not be able to pay back in the span of a solid decade. And if we assume that Xbox profit margins are truly on par with PlayStation, then they're not going to be able to pay that off for about a century. Microsoft ain't going to wait around for a decade or a century to get back the $80 billion dollars that Xbox owes them. They can just sell off Xbox for billions of dollars, and sell off Activision, and sell off Blizzard, and sell off Bethesda, etc etc. They can sell off IPs. They can make that money back. When Microsoft told Xbox that they only have till 2027 to turn shit around, they told them that BEFORE Xbox's situation got catastrophically bad. And I don't think Microsoft arbitrarily told them 2027 as a joke. I assume they mean that. When they said they're going to shut down Xbox if they don't turn shit around by 2027, I don't think that's the type of thing Microsoft says as a joke. We'll see here in the next couple years how it all turns out. But I'm not going to be shocked if Xbox starts trying to sell off the things they're not using. Like if they try and sell Rare back to Nintendo, or if they try and sell Bethesda to Sony, or whatever. I predicted about a year ago that the news for Xbox was only going to get worse and worse and worse, and it has only gotten worse and worse and worse. I don't foresee any way for them to turn this around. If anybody had Xbox is remotely delusional enough to think that they could sell 100 million new Xbox systems or handhelds, they're just simply not living in this reality.

Sincerely, there's no reason to ever buy an Xbox. If they released a new Xbox and it was $200, I still wouldn't buy it. Xbox is a dead ecosystem. Kinda Funny is dodging reality, all the time, probably because you're friends with Xbox people and don't want to be mean to them, or else because you're just not grounded in reality of what's been going on with Xbox for the last several years, and how god-awful their situation is. Which is bizarre because you've talked about how bad their situation is, at least in part, so you MUST know at least part of how awful it is. PlayStation is going to continue to have a bunch of exclusives that are big and impressive and they're doing a bunch of stuff, and now apparently they're getting all the Xbox games too. Nintendo Switch 2 is going to have fuckloads of games, and apparently all the Xbox games too. PC has the biggest game library of anything ever, and apparently now has all the Xbox games too. I'm going to have a Nintendo switch 2. I have a PC. I might get a PS5 at some point. There's zero reason for me to ever own an Xbox. I'm not joking when I say that I have been looking for a reason to own an Xbox for the entire lifespan of the Xbox brand. I have an original Xbox, because somebody didn't want it and sold it to me for $30 back in like 2004. I played a bunch of Xbox games then, and none of them were worth worrying about or spending time or money on. I had a friend in high school who was a halo champion, and he kept winning Halo tournaments, and for every Halo tournament they would give him an Xbox 360 as a prize as if he didn't already have one, so he and his uncle would mod 360s to have a bunch of games pre-installed on them, and he would just bundle them into backpacks with controllers and cables and everything, and he would just give them to his friends to borrow at school. Like his school locker was just a stack of Xbox 360s in backpacks in case anybody wanted to borrow one, because this kid had so many fucking 360s. I borrowed one for like 2 years played it, lost interest within a week, and then just didn't bother giving it back to him for 2 years. The best thing on it was Fable. And Fable was good, but not like amazing. I have been actively you know watching G4 and X play IGN and everything review games just for any system that they come out on, so I've seen reviews for so many Xbox games, I've seen streamers play all manner of Xbox games, and nothing Xbox exclusive has ever been interesting, aside from like Sunset Overdrive and vaguely Sea Of Thieves. Sure, they had that thing a couple days ago showing off several new games presented by Xbox. But none of those are Xbox exclusives except for the Louisiana fantasy one. And I'm sure that won't be exclusive for long. For the entire existence of Xbox they've never managed to conjure up an exclusive I managed to give a shit about enough to buy an Xbox for more than $30. And then all of that time of attempting to convince me with their exclusives that I should buy an Xbox, they never succeeded. They never even came close. And I'm a completionist. I'm a collector. It's like against my ethos to have every Nintendo system and every PlayStation, and every Sega, but not every Xbox. It just feels weird and incomplete. But I also can't afford to just buy them for no reason. And I'll tell you, Sega fucking struggle to get me to buy Sega stuff, but at least they scrape some stuff together here and there. Genuinely, Xbox just never ever ever has. So if they never managed to do it in their entire lifespan of having exclusives, how the fuck could they possibly convince me now that they have nothing to work with? Gamepass is a horrible deal and it's getting worse to the point that the FTC called it out as a scam. Like have you done the math on how much you're paying for that over the span of the 8-year console lifespan? Combined with the cost of the system itself It's like $1,500 or something, and at the end of that you don't own anything. You don't own any fucking games for $1,500, unless you've been also buying hard drives that entire time to install games on that you're never going to delete. Then I guess you own the games that will remain playable without an internet connection or game pass service or whatever. That's fucking crazy. So they're never going to sell me on Game Pass either. It's a horrible deal. A whole DECADE of Nintendo Online is less than A QUARTER of the price of 7 years of Game Pass. Xbox is dead. It's cute of them to pretend that they're going to release a new console, or a handheld, and that that's somehow going to make a difference. But let's be fucking realistic for once. How could that possibly make a difference when they don't even have exclusives anymore, and even when they DID have exclusives the best they could do was 7% of the gaming industry market share? Do we need to talk about Google Stadia, and how streaming games doesn't fucking work in 2025? All the resolution problems, and compression issues, and input lag, and being dependent on an internet connection, and the stable connection, and all that bullshit. That's why Google Stadia went out of business within like 2 years. And that was run by Google, who has an actual power to work on the internet infrastructure. Something that Xbox does not. Xbox pretending that they can just stream games to people is fucking nonsense. If Google can't make that work, there's not a snowballs chance in hell that Xbox can. We simply do not live in a time where the internet infrastructure is prepared for that yet. And so what are they going to do with a new Xbox system? Put Steam on it? So you're saying Xbox would be just a knockoff Steam Machine now? Remember how a Steam machines flopped too? I don't foresee that working very well for them either. So what's the argument in favor of Xbox? Seriously? You talk about the terrible bad news happening to Xbox on basically like a twice a week basis, and then you just go on continuing like it's sunshine and rainbows, and Xbox isn't a very obviously dying / dead ecosystem. Xbox has already gone the way of Sega. You can stick a fork in it. It's done. "Xbox" doesn't mean anything anymore aside from games published by Microsoft. "Everything is an Xbox" ACTUALLY means NOTHING is an Xbox. The concept of an Xbox is dead.
