Whether it’s a Californian doing that to Texans or vice versa. I very much dislike people who are viciously judgmental like that. @@duckhunt1058 That’s true to a point, but let’s be real: a huge amount of the narrative about California is wildly exaggerated fearmongering. It’s been that way since at least the 1980s.
@nw422 ай бұрын
I grew up in California (both SoCal & Silicon Valley), then lived in Texas for 20 years as an adult, then moved back to the LA area a few years ago. Both CA and TX each have their ups & downs, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you something. TX is great in a lot of ways (friendly people, great food, beautiful countryside, rich history & culture, and certainly a lot cheaper) but the weather can be really hard, guns are absolutely everywhere, real estate prices are steadily rising, and the politics are increasingly oppressive for many people. Bottom line? I know several parents who are leaving Texas to protect their children, and many who’ve been priced out of the cities they grew up in. OTOH, California (and LA in particular) is incredibly expensive, housing & homelessness are huge issues, and wildfires are a real problem in many areas-but you also get great people, some incredible opportunities, and some of the best food, weather, and nature in the world. Like anything, it’s a matter of tradeoffs which all come down to your personal needs & situation. The main thing is: don’t listen to the fear mongering from news networks, social media influencers, or politicians. Those people make their living from sensationalism and have a financial interest in misleading you. Do real research, and try to visit places with an open mind.

I'm a middle-aged adult who wants to go back to school, and eventually get a job working in the film industry. One thing I like about the idea of moving to LA, is that it's a city that has a lot of creative vibes, and I feel like it's a place where creativity is valued, not something you use for a hobby because you need to get a "real" job. I have creative skills and I want to be in a place where I can learn how to use them. I live in Kansas, a decent place in itself, but not very exciting, and I like the idea of living in a place where I don't have to worry about icy roads in the wintertime, and having to drive for two days just to see an ocean, or anyplace that I consider a fun place for a vacation. I also like the mix of people who come from places all over the world. In the city I'm working in now, I'm used to driving myself everywhere, so the lack of walkability and public transportation doesn't bother me. I find LA an intriguing place in many respects, in spite of its problems. I'm just trying to figure out how I can afford to move there, since I know that LA is NOT a cheap city to live in!

If you’ve never been to a big city and can’t hang with the constant busyness then it’s gunna be a problem, on the top side there’s always something happening and 24/7 food and other amenities you just won’t find in more rural places.

@@nickoneeach4720 Funny, I don't like seeing the trash pile CA, my native home, became thanks to overzealous liberal policy. The state functioned best when it bounced from red to blue and back on a cycle. The state of CA right now, home of Big Tech and Hollywood yet somehow has a budget deficit, is evidence that Democrat policies do not work.

I live in WA and really want to move to CA. The almost 200k a year makes me nervous though. I am single with a child. I make close to 125k and would probably make 150k in CA, ya think its possible? Id be renting at first and dont mind living small and simple. Honestly where i live is already super expensive. When i look at rentals it doesnt seem much different than Seattle area.

$200k is for a family of 4 looking to buy. If it just you and your child $150k a year will be fine.

We got a house in very late 2009 so rent is affordable compared to most homes here . But overall its way too expensive overall to afford here, and homeless, crime is too high. California 2024 is just way worse than before

I would love to live in California. Colorado is too cold. The cost of living in Colorado is skyrocketing! If I am going to spend a lot of money, I might as well spend it where I want to live. I have been to California a few times and I loved it. The people were really friendly and there is a lot to do. We have a lot of outdoor activities in Colorado, but that gets old.

I live in Colorado and have most my life but I agree it’s not worth it anymore. I was born in bay and have come back many a time and can confirm it’s much nicer in Cali but it is also a little more expensive for sure. But it’s definitely also got more amenities than Colorado no doubt 24/7 food, awesome weather (we all know how bi polar Colorado weather is) and the ocean just can’t be beat. The people are really nice but also can be very flaky (flash back to me sitting on the side of highway 1 for an hour with a flat cuz no Californian would stop for me😅 had to wait for a friendly guy from the Midwest to help.)Or people saying they’ll take you somewhere and you know they won’t lol but with that also comes a very easy going nature people generally have less time for everything including b.s. lol. But again I can’t emphasize enough if you can afford it Cali has the best nature there’s 15 separate ecoregions most tourist in California are just other Californians looking to explore. One guy has been for forever trying to break it into separate states because imo there are like 5 different states in one.
