I've had my nine-months old Dobie since he was seven weeks, and I have raised and trained five Dobies and have never had this issue, but Guinness (yes named after the stout brew) still bites. As a puppy I did everything you and every other trainer has said such as acting hurt and changing my mood, replacing my hand or arm with a toy, walking away or out of the room, etc., but nothing works, and he, at nine months now, is still play-biting with me. For me, it's not that big of an issue, for I am a rough-housing type guy (former Navy SEAL), but I do not accept my Dobie, any of them, to put their mouths on me unless I ok it, and they release on my signal, immediately. Guinness is an outstanding boy in most every way, but this is unacceptable. The worst part about all these videos, is they teach only for "puppies." I want one for older puppies (mine, nine months old). An no, treats don't work either, for he is not food interested. I could go on, but this is the jest.

Omg thanks so much for this video. I have a half Doberman and half boxer puppy 8 weeks old.He has more Doberman traits. I am so frustrated with the puppy biting and I will definitely try this. I thought I exercised him but I think not long enough because he prefers to lie in the grass and not walk. I will try to run around with him in the park more and follow your instructions. Thanks 🙏

I have an 11 month old Doberman pup that has been an amazing pet full of intelligence and loyalty so far. I also have a maltese and mini aussie. Thanksgiving ended with my overstimulated pup nipping at a 5 year old guest after doing her high pitched play bark. She left a mark but didn't break the skin. She plays too rough with the smaller Aussie sometimes by grabbing scruff and nipping. I'm watching this video now, getting the reassurance that I needed that this is something I can correct. We do not have children and therefore, she does not know she cannot play with kids the same way she plays with our aussie. Time for "Leader Will" to come out!

@@willathertondobermanshow2380 It's only been a few weeks and I have seen massive improvement in my pup's play nipping by consistently correcting and redirecting her to a toy. Also, the increase in exercise has been THE key to this magic! I took her back over to the farm this weekend with same kids that were at Thanksgiving and they played correctly and peacefully alllllll day long! My pup just had some extra angst that me the owner needed to address. Thanks!

Will this work with older puppies? I have a 7 month old European Doberman and he still bites so much. He’s my first dog ever so I’m new to this pack leader thing. He at least will become more gentle if I say no but I have to repeat no over and over for him to stop or I have to get really serious with him. At what age do I need to worry about this behavior?

I am SO pleased about what you’ve said regarding exercise. I’ve got a 16 week old dobie, he’s amazing and his mouthing has significantly decreased over the past couple of weeks so just watching out of curiosity really. That said, I’ve seen a lot of judgement being passed on dobie owners (particularly first timers like me), in the dobie community about exercising and ‘over exercising’. I use the 5 minute rule per month as a general rule of thumb but I definitely go off my boy and his behaviours more - he would not be content with 1 20 minute walk per day, particularly when his ‘walking’ is 90% sniffing around and observing! Fab video as always! :)

I suspect this will be useful for any correction, even outside of biting. I will be getting my doberman puppy soon and these videos are helping me prepare so much! I have a 10 week old Dobie and I ended up using a spray bottle to the face! She may become desensitized to it soon tho. I believe that dobes as puppies have less instinct to not bite on people. I mean that is what they are born to do after all. I think that is why dobes are the mouthiest breed alive as puppies. They do overcome it tho. Love Dobies so much❤

My puppy almost challenges me saying no like he’ll bark back and argue to my stern nos. I’ve tried that I’ve tried the neck scruff pull, the hand over the muzzle and nothing works. I tell him no then two minutes later he’s back to biting again like he thinks I’m joking or something. He’s 8 weeks is this just normal?

My Dobbie is 5 months old female. She is extremely smart and understands everything that is going around. But whenever I unleash she starts running everywhere and when she crosses me she jumps on me and bites me and pulls my dress aggressively which is very scary which is why I have stopped unleashing her more often. I am really scared about her this behavior cuz despite of this behavior I make sure she plays for 1 hour everyday but I see no change in her biting behavior. And, also I make sure to giver her a command whenever she bites. But nothing seems working on her which is annoying and frustrating at the same time. And, she jumps on everybody who comes close to her be it out of affection or aggression. If someone can help me or give some tips how to deal with this situation. Thank you in advance.

HI guys! I love your channel and I am taking note on everything with our new baby Dobbie girl, Arwen. At just 10 weeks she's biting a lot... yes. I agree, we need to get her more exercise, but the vet said that she can't go out of the house until the next vaccine which is in about 3 weeks. We've had her for 2 weeks. My question is: should every member of the family have that stance of authority and leadership when she bites? Sometimes my children forget to do it and simply yelp and push her away... she's very strong willed and I fear that everything I try gets (unintentionally) sabotaged by them? Please help!

No amount of redirection or verbal correction is working for our 10 week old. It usually happens after a few hours of being awake and going back in the crate is the only thing that will stop her, short of pinning her on the ground so she'll stop, but she will get eight back up and do it again after that. I want to be careful about not being too harsh with corrections with her but the biting is frustrating. She can't be out of her pen at all unless you 100% are giving her attention or you'll end up with a bite.

@Fenrir love your channels I just found your Dobie specific channel yay! 8 month old female littermates mixed Doberman & Argentinian Dogo. They due to pent up energy I'm sure will engage in extremely aggressive fights and when my partner and I intervene 1 girl will continue to show teeth and then bite sometimes with verbal complaints in response to humans verbal commands. Granted the bite has constraint, as it is no where near the potential these girls mouths have. But still unacceptable and at a loss. She's not going anywhere I just don't want this to be what our pack does.

17 minute video with a whole bunch of talking and yet zero useful info. If you guys are looking for training tips with your Dobe get doberman specific Trainer, who is familiar with the breed. Dobermans are a bit different. Verbal corrections do not work with Dobermans and unfortunately the longer you let this behavior go on the worse it’ll get. Redirection and distraction are a path to disaster. The only thing that works is correction and it’s not verbal. When they bite you and you make sounds, you are just seen as a squeaky toy. The more they bite the more you squeak the more fun it is . Don’t waste your money on his webinars or whatever. He has no idea what he’s talking about. He might be able to train a Chihuahua but not a Doberman.
