Get a marine survey, before you buy the boat. It’s not a guarantee they catch everything, but it helps, it can also give you negotiating leverage.

Started working on boats when I was 16.. SAM's Surveyor and USCG Captain, Pilot, A&P mechanic. If you know what to look for you usually catch the trouble spots, I usually try to get someone else to look at any repairs that I do just to make sure I do not miss anything..

I Winter covered my boat & blocked trailer up off ground yesterday ,. 4.5 hours. With Bidnflation, can't afford a slip nor shrink wrap. I have an 1987 27 cuddy, that is in great shape because it is always entirely COVERED unless it's "In use", since 2001. Takes 20 minutes to uncover & 20 to cover, but the difference is amazing. My brother has identical boat, same year but center console. His boat looks like hell, faded, cracked gelcoat everywhere, black teak, because ONLY the center console gets covered. SUN LIGHT causes serious damage. My heavy Summer cover ($450) lasted me 7 years before the sun turned it into tissue paper.

I am not an expert on marine AC systems but I would put a hard start kit on an old residential unit capacitor and it would most often kick the compressor on and start cooling. I have old systems that extend the life of the compressor years by adding a hard start on the capacitor.

I used to do Heating -n- A/C but it was nothing like doing it in today's homes or in boats. With extra "systems" tied in together like "Solar", things can get complicated fast. And doing it in a small space is difficult at best. Attics are pretty bad but where I was in N.Virginia we didn't use attics very much, but when I hit Texas-- OMG, it's a younger man's game. Lots without insurance as insurance is very costly for one reason . How many people lose a boat in 5 days ….. not too many I’m sure. How many people have a boat sink period ? Not many. In the north west you can not get insurace without a survey every 5 years. Once you have survey if there is anything wrong the insurance company will send you a note saying insurance is good provided defects are done. Last insurance survey the boat was on the hard and the AC strainer top was off as the boat was being worked on. Yacht insurance is what i do, sad to see this happen to them. No such thing as pre or free insurance. If you're looking to buy a boat look for insurance when you start looking at boats...not after you find one and are rushing to close. Good insurance takes time, could take a day, a week, a couple weeks; all depends on your situation, location, time of year, your operating history, boat survey, survey recommendations, and more. I tell people it's a process you can't rush. If anyone has any questions feel free to reach out. I stay avail to my clients well after business hours and including weekends....it's what i enjoy doing. Cheers!

Yes! Definitely keep that older truck! The new ones just aren't worth it for even half the price. I bought a new truck then sold it 6 months later. I am keeping my 2004, I put a factory new engine in it from GM and renewed a bunch of stuff to make nice like a modern radio player with BT and everything. It still looks great and I can keep it running forever. The older ones are much simpler and when parked side by side the quality is much better all the way around on my 2004 Chevy then the new ones. And because there are no payments, I can afford to give her anything she needs when it comes up.

Nope. that entire binnacle could be improved by building a new one from scratch, taller reaching out towards the captain in a stubby crescent shape. Getting rid of the spot light is divorcing a witch. A problem that is broken from factory like the 1986-1991 Honda CRX and Preludes, along with a long list of other broken from factory models like the PT cruiser and CHrysler lEBARON. I loved the design styles of the original Plymouths designed by Chrysler but we all know that story. you have to build it like you want it and how the materials dictate, now instead of carving it like a cabinet maker people have found a way to practically print parts.

It's a real shame that a number of people, not just me have found out if you put in a claim and after an ungodly amount of time on the phone with all parties involve to get the claim and the work completed, you find out in the following months that your insurance has gone sky high and trying to get a better deal from other insurance companies you find out you have some kind of a "record" or put on a list and nobody else will insure you just because you put in a claim. If there was something the insurance company thought was wrong or whatever they should talk to you about before paying out or during one of those many hours you spent on the phone with them. Sorry to get on my soap box but getting educated about putting in claims is better to do before the day comes when you find out you have to actually use that policy you have been on for years. I'll understand of you want to remove this comment from your site.

You are exactly right …. I can never understand when people want to use their insurance to replace a lower unit let’s say it cost $4-5k. They don’t understand exactly what you said above and it’s not our job to try to tell them.

Was it a boat on the pier? Show getting out to the boat and the dondition of the boat. Is it 1/2 sinking is it ok, the tumb nail show it was 1//2 sinking in the water so don't you have to bail out the boat first?
