Invaluable lesson from a modern king of vibrato! Its taken me months and months of practicing but I've finally make progress on throat vibrato. Its difficult.it takes a lot of work. Its frustrating and you'll want to throw your harp at the wall. But when you nail it.....man, its all worth it.

Same here. First time watching this video (about 6 min in), and I got it on the 3. So many tutorials just focus on the 2, which I think is more difficult. My harps kinda suck, so I know when I get a decent one, it will be a breeze. Thanks, Will!

Well explained, Will, thanks for the lesson. As a guitarist, I get really fed up with people talking about tremolo arms 🤪. I am starting to move from tremolo to vibrato (finally) on harmonica, it’s such an important technique and adds class and expression to any note. Cheers!

Great video. After watching it and practicing, I can only do vibrato about half as fast as you can, maybe even less. If I try to go faster, it gets out of control and spastic. Also, even though I'm trying not to use my diaphragm, I can feel it pulsing, and I think that's physically because I am constricting the airflow with my throat. Kind of like if you pinch on a garden hose it slows the water down.

I can do vibrato just fine but my biggest problem on harp is tremolo. I use the cheating tremolo method of moving the harp in and out of my mouth slightly but it doesn’t sound as good as doing with your throat, it’s not as smooth. I can overblow/draw every note, my bends are perfect, my staccato technique especially is second to none, I feel like I can do all the “hard” stuff on the harp, but I just can’t get a good, smooth tremolo.

This is how I learned throat vibrato, but mine is much slower. Is it just a matter of trying to speed it up a little bit each day over time to get it faster?
@willharmonicawilde2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much, you can learn to speed it up/slow it down. But everyone seems to have a natural vibrato speed where they can just relax in to it and the throat takes over without having to consciously think about it. My natural vibrato speed is faster than most
@vincemeghrouni78052 жыл бұрын
@@willharmonicawilde And it sounds great at that natural speed of yours, so I'd like to attempt to speed mine up if practice can make that possible. What do you suggest? And thanks much for your reply.

@norfolknwhey47872 жыл бұрын
When I try to do the draw “coughing”, it seems to come from my diaphragm instead of my throat muscles. Is there any way to focus the movement into the throat, or does it just take lots of practice to separate the 2? Thanks in advance for your help!

Will, I'm absolutely struggling with holes 4,5,6 throat vibrato. I can get 1,2,3 but get a trem sound on 4,5,6. Do I pull less on these notes? Will that be a start?
@willharmonicawilde4 жыл бұрын
The technique is essentially the same, but you have to adjust ypur mouth/throat slightly for each note, just as you do with bends different bends.

I find it easier to do a vibrato on a blow note than on a draw. Maybe it’s not a genuine vibrato?
@willharmonicawilde4 жыл бұрын
Technically VIBRATO is a movement up and down in pitch. For that reason you can only get a wide vibrato on notes that are able to bend (draw notes 1 to 6 and blow notes 7-10). You can still get a little bit of vibrato on the other notes too, just no where near as much.
@harmonicafun5 жыл бұрын
