In 1982, Bob Ross was lovingly and excitedly given the blessing of William Alexander to take up the mighty paintbrush and carry on teaching the wet on wet technique that Alexander had made popular to the modern world. It is an old technique that has been used by artists for centuries. Bob carried on for Alexander and the world came to love Bob Ross as well as William Alexander. There was no bitterness between the two lovable men. Alexander was overjoyed to pass the show on to his protege Bob Ross. He did so joyfully and publicly.

I met Bob at a trade show in D.C. and he was as nice (and talk) and talented as you see in the screen. He and Annette (and their spouses build the Bob Ross company one workshop and demo at a time. I was lucky to join the Ross instructor ranks by invitation. Both of these men brought art into an average household sharing their techniques and knowledge. I hope y’all pick up a brush and make some happy trees with the magic of painting.

You must have read the wrong biography of another Bill Alexander, maybe a politician or somebody. Get the facts straight, man, and stop spreading this horseshit! Ross company is a money machine of non-artists teaching other non-artists a technique how to paint, making millions of dollars with selling how-to books, videos (back in the days) and oil paint, all boldly embossed with Ross's name andthe thieve's face. He was anything but a collaborator. They were bitter rivals because Ross stole everything from Bill! Company together my arse! I don't give a damn if you claim to have ever met Bill, nobody can verify it anyway. I met him too, and I can even even speak his mother tongue. So, less misunderstandings during a conversation, see? *Here comes what is only relevant to me, not what self-described so called **_'certified'_** these and that who had allegedly met him or her claim on the internet, quote:* _"Finally, Mr. Ross found an art instructor in California who could show him exactly how to paint a tree, using the speedy, foolproof "wet on wet" method. "I took one class and I went crazy," he said. "I knew this was what I wanted to do." Mr. Ross eventually set up his own traveling art school in Florida. His business took off in 1982._ *_He declined to name the teacher who first inspired him, explaining somewhat uneasily, "Now he is our major competitor."_* *_In fact, the rivalry between Mr. Ross and his former mentor, William Alexander, is bitter._*_ Mr. Alexander, 76, a Bavarian-born painter who _*_has his own painting show on a public television station in Orange County, Calif., a paint supply business and a line of books and videos,_*_ spoke of his former protege in the tones Thomas Couture might have used to describe the young pupil who outstripped him, Edouard Manet._ *_"He betrayed me,"_*_ he said in his strong German accent. _*_"I invented 'wet on wet.' I trained him and he is copying me -- what bothers me is not just that he betrayed me, but that he thinks he can do it better." "_* Unquote. *THE NEW YORK TIMES* , December 22, 1991, Page 002033, The New York Times Archives (not any misinformed YT dude!) www.nytimes.com/1991/12/22/arts/television-bob-ross-the-frugal-gourmet-of-painting.html?pagewanted=4&src=pm So, kindly shove your delusion up where the sun don't shine, and I certainly don't mean London.

Youngsters don't realize that this show was first done by William Alexander. Ross dedicated the first episode of the second season of The Joy of Painting to Bill Alexander, explaining that "years ago, Bill taught me this fantastic [wet-on-wet] technique, and I feel as though he gave me a precious gift, and I'd like to share that gift with you." As Ross's popularity grew, his relationship with Alexander became increasingly strained. "He betrayed me," Alexander told The New York Times in 1991. "I invented 'wet on wet', I trained him, and ... he thinks he can do it better."

It was because, they had a buisness agreement, Bob would use and plug Alexanders paint supply company for the show. But as demand increased with popularity. Alexander had trouble keeping up with the mass demand. So Bob and his company siezed the opportunity to supply his own paint, effectively cutting Bill out entirely and cutting his income significently. That was the betrayal Bill was talking about

I read somewhere that around 1985?, Bob Ross became frustrated with the owner of Alexander (Magic) Art, Sid Knudson. They came to an agreement that Bob would receive royalties from the sales of Alexander art products that were being shipped straight from what was then his home in Kentucky. Bob's wife Jane would take care of the orders while Bob would travel and teach. Finally one day Jane called Bob upset over the lack of orders, they had slowed down over time to nothing. Bob called Sid Knudson and asked what the problem was only to find out Sid's brother living in New York had taken a cut of the orders. Bob being angry with the whole thing took up on Annette Kowaski's offer to start Bob Ross Inc. As Bob Ross Incorporated grew into a $15-million-a-year business, Bob also signed a deal with Martin F Weber CEO Dennis Kapp to brand his own supplies at the same time the changeover occurred in Bob’s 7th series Alexander told the New York Times that he felt betrayed by his former student: "He betrayed me. I invented 'wet on wet.' I trained him and he is copying me-what bothers me is not just that he betrayed me, but that he thinks he can do it better." That's about the same time Bob started to use the white handled brushes with his name on them and his ex-mentor Bill began his "Art of William Alexander" series after a 4-5 year hiatus

Anyone who can engage the viewer and at the same time paint a whole painting that looks that good is certainly a talented man. I don't think a women could do it, lmao. Ok so I joked, kill me

Very good is an understatement. How many artists do you know who can paint like this in under 30 minutes? I love Bill Alexander's lessons. There's always something to learn.

So he didn't do it the way Bob Ross did? I think he might have had a study and a preliminary created first as a guide.

Bob Ross made three paintings of the same landscape, if I know right.

I couldn't remember his name before looking for video of this guy (only what he used to say about "the almighty fan brush", so that's what I searched with) - and here he is! That's what I remembered most about his speech - that and "FIRE it in dehr & FIRE it in dehr"!

What he says might seem like random rambles at first, is what I initially thought. But once I began to think, it really spoke to me. Getting me pumped and motivated.

Bill's the best, the real deal, a personality you can relate to, he's real, not trying to be a Fred Rogers or some other smooth talking, unrealistic, smarmy character. Bill was original, everything after him is plagiarism, knock-off, and crafty imitation, margarine versus butter, plastic versus wood, slick versus genuine.

Everyone talks about Bob Ross and he had a really good show, but this is the guy I remember the most. I used to watch this guy on Channel 12 every weekend back before everyone had cable. Watching this gives me the same feelings as when I listen to baseball on the radio or sometimes on TV. Takes me back to my childhood but not the time Uncle Bobby touched my no-no place or as he called it "the yes-yes place"
@QueenBee-gx4rp6 жыл бұрын
Michael Mace I enjoyed your comments. Funny how a sound can bring back happy memories. I used to watch him back then as well. Hope you gave Uncle Bobby a kick in his “no-no” place when you grew up.
