"I have spent the last 30 years professionally running a small ad agency that specialized in the tourism business, and we worked with a lot of governments all over the world, but mostly in the Caribbean. So flying after diving for me is a huge part of my business.
The safety that DAN has provided has allowed me to do my job, to be honest with you, and do it safely so that I can continue to dive. I've been an insurance product member for many, many years, ever since probably you practically came out with the insurance products. I've had it for my whole family, and we've never had to use it, and that's a wonderful thing.
DAN has created the safety factor that allows us to know what we can do safely within diving. The research, to me, is the most important part of it. The research that DAN has done over the years has allowed us as a sport to be far safer. To me, that is one of the greatest values of being a DAN member. Having been and still a course director for many years and taught in a retail environment, I know DAN has some fantastic programs with dive shops and dive retailers to allow their students to quickly and easily become a member, and I can't say how important it is.
Even if you never dive beyond the local quarry in Muncie, Indiana or you do take that exotic trip to Fiji, you need DAN. Like all divers, I love them. I'm passionate about the sport and I think DAN is a huge part of that safety factor that's made it all more accessible for everybody.
