So THAT's the pain I feel going in the deep end of the pool. Lord have mercy! Thank God I haven't ruptured my eardrum, because I've gone to 7-9 feet a number of times. You failed to mention HOW to equalize our ears. I have know idea how to do that. I've also always had some ear trouble since I was a stupid teenager spending too much time around very loud music and now suffer from tinnitus. I'll also periodically experience a sudden temporary pressure with a loss of about 80% of hearing and extremely high frequency ringing in my ears that dissipates over 30-60 seconds before returning to normal. This happens a few times per month. I've had this issue for at least 15 years that I can remember. I feel as though my Eustachian tubes are too small and don't equalize properly? I'm not sure. Never seen a specialist about it, but my regular PCP has never mentioned any concerns. I don't dive, but I do swim a lot and use diving rings for practicing oxygen deprivation and expanding my lung capacity.

A controversial issue you didn’t cover was your "service" nearly killing one of your highest paying members and forcing him to pay out of pocket to save his own life. Why don't we chst about that? Or, better yet, you lose everything =)

Scam artists who would have let a grest diver die. Forced him to pay 100% out of pocket. How many others have you injured or killed while hoarfing their money. Shame on you all!

Great content! I know that most agencies require a physician release to dive. However, it would be nice if there was some guidance. For example, is an EKG normal, is the diver able to do moderate exercise METs 4-6 without symptoms. The fact that 28% of deaths is related to cardiovascular disease is way too high

19:15 so in blatant clear English is DAN saying if we use EAN25 (25% O2 enriched gas) or higher we are recommended to have O2 clean cylinders, tank valves and first stage regulators? Most dive shops I have been to only charge a few bucks more for a Nitrox sticker on the outside of the cylinder stating Nitrox up to 40% not O2 clean. I am sure as s$%^ they didn't do a O2 cleaning on my gear during the inspection. There is a huge disconnect on these topics especially when just few years (less than three) a Hawaiian dive charter told one his holiday dive clients that everyone on the boat dives Nitrox. She told him she was not a Nitrox certified diver and his response was that it was OK that Nitrox simply allow for longer bottom time and provide a safety margin. She got high pressured into proceeding the the dive with no Nitrox certification and there was absolutely no gas analyzation taking place. Shame on me for witnessing this whole s&*# show and not stepping up and at least asking the dive operator to produce the boats analyzer and demanding all cylinders under use to be tested! If for nothing else it would have made more of a point if they did not have an analyzer on the boat for the safety report I should have placed for this bad practice in the industry to just push divers though like cattle with very low concern for proper dive safety checks. The dive industry still have a lot of growing up to do is what this tells me. Sure we have come a long way but a lot of work ahead of us. I have since mitigated my own dive practice and have several gas analyzers on hand now.

Shocked and saddened to learn about DAN's failure to act as advertised when a client, Woody from Dive Talk, needed the services he had paid for. Glad he was able to navigate the situation without severe consequences to his life or health but I can only wonder how many were harmed when they found themselves in a similar situation. Most of us have DAN because we cannot through down big bucks in an emergency situation and rely on DAN to serve as that safety net. Shopping around for dive insurance.

I have my own analyzer and never use it when a get an "air" fill. GREAT IDEA TO USE IT ALL OF THE TIME. As far as the "1/4 turn" is this really a controversy? I have both type of fins (US DIVER Jet Fins, which I bought 50 years ago, & Scuba Pro split fins purchased about 10 y ago) I"m an older diver now with 2 artificial knees and the split fins are easier on my knees. I might not swim as fast as I once did, but slow and steady is now my pace.

I’m a 1/4 turn back and it comes from helping teach in the 90s. Still today when I tender or checking my buddy, before they go in the water I check their tank valve. I’ve caught it several times that a diver charged the regulator and shut their valve back off. So turning the valve and returning it did open the valve and didn’t make any noise.

At 19:22. Really good info on regulator failure due to hose degradation. You have 817 views and I am the only person making comment. You claim hose degradation causing second stage failure due to hose breaking up so much so that the second stage is inoperable. Diver goes to octopus, you say you don't recommend. Why? Then you say octopus also had gas line particles from failure. Manufacturer cannot find problem. You take this to the lab and recreate the problem. Then you discuss solid hoses versus braided hoses. Please follow up with some standards on hose manufacturing guidelines, treatment of hoses during storage and hose replacement frequency. What do the commercial divers do? Thanks so very much!
@puckalakealake55979 ай бұрын
Thank you for bringing forth equipment issues. We are heavily reliant on equipment. I have personal experience pumping N2 in the petroleum well service industry. There are also standards in the welding industry where compressed air is used. Hospitals use both N2 and O2. Safety experts use cross sectional analysis to review improvements and lessons learned from one industry to another. Filling hose failure accident. How much is a whip restraint? Can we require it as a condition for receiving a new compressor? Cost of new filling hose? Can we say replace it every five years? How far should the tank filling technician stand from the tank? Can we give him a remote switch 5 feet away (and none closer). Is there a potential for a white paper to go out and to see an upgrade in standards at filling tank stations? Thank you so very much for this review of these issues. Will continue to watch the rest of the video

I have a trivia: if you have 2 different readings of a tank from 2 different analyzer, let's say EAN 30 vs EAN 34....which EAN setting would you put in your dive computer, is it EAN 30 or EAN 34? :)
@jakeman13979 ай бұрын
Personally, I would put 30% in for deco purposes, but use 34% for calculating MOD - this way you use the more conservative values
