only thing i'd say is dont rush to withdraw from new accounts especially after a free bet, having gone through 10+ sets of accounts personally i've learnt the hard way they have a spotlight on new accounts. hope IBAS puts some pressure on them and sorts it out for you, make sure you let WH know in emails/phone calls that you have IBAS looking into the case for you, that usually scares them

When i opened my William hill account, they needed prove of drivers license to see if i was over 18 and i had to e-mail them. But when i opened with Sky Betting i never needed to do that. I wouldnt mind but I sent it months ago! It was valid when they received it but obviously couldn't be bothered to sort it then said it was out of date. its the lotto as well, i checked my numbers online and it said id won £5.00 and a free lucky dip. i went to the shop who put my ticket through the machine and was told it wasn't a winner. normally i don't check beforehand as i normally rely on the shop machine and when they say its not a winner they bin it. this time i took back the ticket and checked again as did my friends and it all said id won but the shop wont pay out coz the machine said no. i tried different shops and they all said no, one shop worker said it happens all the time and there's nothing they can do about it. we are being ripped and most people wont realise. same with scratch cards they they are legally selling even when all prises are won. proper rip off

Unfortunately, this is not just a William Hill problem, its a general problem. Even worse if you are playing on a betting website belonging to a company unauthorized by the legislation in your country, because you are playing illegally, so you cant do nothing about it. People do this because they are lured by suposedly better odds, such as the case with 1xbet... Besides, most times, that "free money" is not free at all, as you need to bet an unreasonable amount, such as like 20 times the money you have invested or something crazy like that, so if you bet with the intent of winning free money with a small deposit, you are just being fooled. Of course, the terms of how you can withdraw are not explained in big letters nor when you put the money in, but just when you won a certain bet and you see you have been made a fool, because you cant draw anything 😆

I got in for Cheltenham signed up to a good few to only get the free bets. It worked because I got a good few winners over Cheltenham. Again before I could withdraw I then had to send in passport, bank statement, and proof of address bill etc. Yesterday I withdrew all my winnings and they seemed to all go through ok. However, when signing up and lodging there were no checks only when I went to withdraw was proof of identity was required. I won't be using them again it was quick in and out to get the winnings, only thing now is being bombarded with texts and emails to bet on casinos, games, etc! Good work Caan on highlighting this.

Been a pro gambler for almost 20 years now. It's never been this bad before. This is by FAR the worst it's been for this sort of behaviour. I used to get about 10% of my withdrawals refused, it's now around 90% are refused.

Hi mate. I started matched betting two weeks ago and it's opened my eyes as to what bookies are allowed to get away with. We need to start some sort of movement that ensure losers are gubbed exactly the same way winners are to stop the exploitation. Either gubbing should be illegal OR Winners and Losers are gubbed according to identical criteria where maybe bookmakers make their money on the spread or something. My late dad years ago (1960’s) joined William Hill’s new telephone betting operation and won a few quid and phoned another bet. The first bet was not settled but they saw he had winnings to come so took the bet. It won. When he phoned again the balance was zero. The first winner was disqualified and the second bet was not on as no funds!!! We are talking quids not tenners!!!! He closed the account so I and my brothers avoid them.

It's not just because of the £47, its because he placed value bets, they know over an extended period he would certainly be a winner - they don't want that. There are thousands like him who make a side income from being a bit smart even on a smaller scale. Instead of fixing their problem, they behave like this because its cheaper. If you went back 5-10 years it was happening on a far smaller scale to people like me but now its become commonplace. Their greed is endless! Hope that explains a bit more.

I presume this has only become a real issue thanks to the internet as it would be quite difficult to place a bet in one shop, then toddle down the round and place the opposite bet especially given the spreads the bookies would have

Yes that's fair, although it's not just about laying bets off, it's if you beat "true value" of the bet. If someone only bets above the line value they always emerge a winner in the long term (it's the opposite of them offering reduced odds). Algorithims highlight people who do this as they will inevitably be winners even if they are unlucky in the shortterm. Those taking bad value, that have addictions etc they roll out the red carpet for, give more free bets as the same algorithims identify them too! In a shop it would be a lot harder yes, although I believe some of the bookies even have algorithims working on peoples handwriting now via a central database to identify them in the shop. It's mad, and nothing to do with them pricing bets and offering a wager.

My online account with William Hill was closed by the company with no warning and no wrongdoing by me. When I contacted them and asked them why it was closed, they sent endless dismissive emails saying _"We can't tell you the reason but we hope you enjoyed your time with us, sorry but your account cannot be reopened."_ I objected and contacted an arbitration company, *Resolver,* online to find out what William Hill were doing. After weeks of them refusing to explain and sending dismissive emails, *Resolver* suggested I take it to the *Information Commissioner's Office* and make a legal demand for WH to provide me with the personal information they hold about me. They backtracked dramatically and are now preparing to provide me with all the data and the reason for the account closure and are even apologising for their behaviour. If you're a member of this organisation's website, be warned - you may try and sign in one day and find they've done the same thing with your account. If that happens, feel free to contact me and I'll guide you through how to proceed.

Had this recently. My account was around 0 profit/loss as kept having soem wins and soem losses, then I hit a big win of £1800. Proceeded to withdraw it. They immediatly then wanted 4 different selfies, with my ID/card/proof of address. Biggest new con with William hill is stat bets like over ten shots on target etc.. they know the average punter always bets on "overs" and they never give you the option for the under and if it lands on exactly ten the bet is not void like other bets. Also this thing they say that results are run by opta stats but there is no way to check these opta stats,had more than a few bets where say flashscore,their own website says there was eleven shots on target,the tv stats or I counted them myself and they class it as a loser saying it was ten shots because opta stats said so but you can't check opta😂also doesn't help the guy in charge off regulating the gambling commission in government doesn't have to declare his financial interests because he is exempt with some government card,the same one nick clegg just got taken of him for getting promoted by metaverse😂

I won £3000 from ladbrokes for Crystal Palace to finish in the top 10 £1 bet on this bet & a staff member at Ladbrokes wrote the slip out for me. When I went to claim the money apparently I only won £5 I went well not what the odds say. They tried to say I fixed the odds & refused to pay me out I still have that betting slip I kept it & I’ve never been inside Ladbrokes in years.

I'm not a gambler, so I'm basically speaking out my ass here. In days gone by, here in Australia there was only the TAB (totalyzer agency board) where people could have a punt, aside from on course. It was owned and run by australian state governments and was obviously, very well regulated. But ever since big business have got their mitts onto the gambling industry here, it has become a complete shitshow. From pokie machines taking pensioners money off them every fortnight, to casinos and bookies being used to launder drug money alongside a billion other dirty secrets of the industry. Got onto a progressive jackpot game once on williamhill The game immediately froze before the wheel could land on a certain progressive pot. I went to live chat and they were useless, kept telling me to load it on different stuff which i tried. Eventually after loads of back and fourth, they even told me I hadn't landed on it, I took photo's etc to prove it. They eventually paid me £70+ which was an impossible amount to win because non of the prizes were of that amount. I kept relentlessly asking them which progressive I landed on to win that amount, zero answer, zero integrity and zero accountability. I'm almost certain I was glitched out because I was set to land on the big 1.

Yep ! I tried to withdraw a similar amount ! About £49-50p . ( which was won with my own money , not to do with free bets ) , it was then that they asked me for all sorts of ID . Previously they were so happy taking my money when I was on a very long losing streak !! ( No ID requests then ! )

Sorry but I’m on side with William Hills here, and I’ll explain why. They have asked for a statement linked to the card used to make the deposit, and rightly so. The card could be stolen or belong to a third party, which would obviously be a breach of their terms and conditions. By asking to see the transaction in paper or PDF format, linked to the named account holder and his address, isn’t unreasonable in my view. Take for instance the two guys whom stole someone’s bank card, bought a £10 scratch card and won £4m, Camelot absolutely refused to pay them as they couldn’t prove the card was their own as it was indeed stolen. People try to circumvent terms and conditions all the time at online gambling sites, either by changing a digit in their DOB, adding or removing a letter from their name and so forth. By law, winnings online in the UK, must be paid to the original payment method used to deposit. It is therefore reasonable to suggest, that they would want to ensure all is in order and verify the player, otherwise known as (KYC) know your customer, prior to paying out and honouring a winning bet. Just provide the correct Docs, it doesn’t matter what other transactions are on that statement, it is not relevant. They need to ensure that the card used, belongs to the player, is registered to the address documented on the account, and is fully above board and legitimate. Otherwise, people would be setting up accounts in their own name, then using their partner’s bank card and potentially spending/gambling funds that do not belong to said player. William Hill are absolutely correct and IBAS, I’m afraid will take their side 100%, as would the UKGC in this particular instance.

Ste, to answer your points - if they want to check the card why don't they do it to EVERYONE and BEFORE they bet? Why do addicts and losers get a free pass? You say it doesn't matter what transactions are on the statement? If you look about you will see many cases where it does matter because the company use this information when its no business of theirs. If you see the video, the docs have been provided, and he's still waiting 6 weeks later and they are ignoring on the deadlock number. The UKGC should NOT be taking their side as they are breaking their own rules. They should only do such checks at opening or before placing a bet.

I've been waiting a withdrawal of £950. I had had the account 2 years. I had been told withdrawals had been processed. I've sent everything......still do not have the money. Like you’ve said most ppl give up and I’m certainly getting close to this point. Do the casinos do this as well? I've heard of casinos in London not paying out modest winnings of £700 without ID. They did not require an ID to play, but they put a freeze on the cash payout without a valid ID.

I read alot of casino forums, where it's more slots players than sports bettors, and these stories are literally 10 a penny, especially for alot of these new crypto casinos or ones with just shitty Curacao licences, etc. AML & KYC were never a big thing 10 years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if the established bookies/casinos have learnt from these new operators how being suddenly stringent on regulations can make alot of extra profit - I'm sure big bookies probably hate how hot on AML the Govt. has become recently, as they probably happily profit from washing criminal money through their books, but it does now give them a massive new profit stream obstacle that they can place in front of honest players instead. William Hill are at least still touchable by English Law thankfully, though them being able to play multiple regulation cards means it's invariably a hard slog before you can even get to litigation stage - another trick they play which many aren't aware was that if your account gets freezed and you email them too frequently asking for update/resolution, etc then you just risk them further freezing your acct funds because they can state you appear desperate for money & therefore must be more likely suffering a gambling problem - so they can get away with pretending they're protecting your welfare as per Govt. Guidelines AND get more reason to keep your money for longer.

Hi Caan, you mention IBAS - do you know of a similar service/company that regulates Casinos/Bingo sites? I've had an account closed down at Buzz Bingo, for reasons they don't want to disclose with me, but they haven't paid out my remaining balance. Ashamed to say I used to work for this company. FYI, the staff are just doing their job and following the ridiculous rules and regulations put into place which seem to change every month or so. Since 888 bought WH, they have stripped everything to the bare bones. Paying cashiers minimum wage when industry is generally above that. Most shops single man at night now, which is a security concern for many staff given they are alone with several thousands of pounds in cash. Expected to be responsible for banned customers and self excluded ones while working alone, etc.

I'm late on this video, I too went on WH, I deposited no problem, got a quick email welcoming me and I played a few games of Bingo, I never won. The next day I went to log on and got a popup asking for verification, I asked what that was and as already mentioned it was sending in documents and pictures of myself holding a letter, bank card etc. I got refused, saing one of the corners of the letter wasn't showing, they couldn't read the bank card properly and something else I forget, so did it again and got rejected. I phoned Gambling commision and the guy there I thought must work for WH as he was all for it, saying if you have a problem take it up with them, nothing they can do.I didn't have much in so put it down as a loss. I recently joined another bingo site and in my error they are doing the same, they take your money no probs but again want documents to verify, I have been rejected as one of the pictures was slightly cut off, so sent off again and at the monet not heard anything, I went on Gambling commision's website and they approve of this saying it is lawful, so no chance of them helping you.

I've never personally had a problem with William Hill, had my account for close to 20 years. I had my Ladbrokes account for quite a while too, last month had a very lucky streak on Ladbrokes, over 3 days won close to £900, next day got a email to say I was no longer able to use any bonuses or offers, and when I tried to place a £50 bet on a mainstream football game it was saying maximum stake £2.49 or something ridiculous. Happy to not use again.

I once won 4570 quid on William hill site. They refused to pay. Not really giving me a reason. After 4 wks of back and forth they said my details didn’t match the bank card. I signed up with my details and I used my wife’s bank card with her permission to deposit. They took 6 deposits from this card without any problems.when I won they wouldn’t pay for that reason. So I got a card with my details on it deposited 5 pound. Used the fiver then made a withdrawal and it was in my account 5 days later. Haven’t played in their site again they barred me. At least I got my 4 an a half grand.

William Hill were the worst when it came to verification. I started matched betting a year ago only to deposit £25 there and then never use it and forget about it for a year. Then I got into Value Betting via Rebelbetting and wanted to use William Hill. I did the ridiculous thing of taking a selfie with a bank statement and finally reopened the account and had it verified. I'm happy that I basically rinsed them of £400 more or less from value bets and then of course got banned in about 2 weeks but still glad I took their money 😂

I think the experience you get depends on what you're doing. In the past losing VIPs would get tickets to sporting events and fast tracked with any problems sorted very fast. If you're winning however...
