This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on William James' set of lectures, "Pragmatism: A New Name for Some Old Ways of Thinking", specifically on lecture 2, "What Pragmatism Means", and discusses how new opinions are entertained and then assimilated into the matrix of the older beliefs that we hold as true. Generally the new ideas or experiences are not accepted wholesale, but rather end up being adjusted to fit in with as many of the older truths as we can retain.
