The MoH and VC might be the highest award for valour in both systems, but they are not the same. Compare the number of serving soldiers in the British Empire and Wars and conflicts that they fought in compared to the USA forces and it shows the Victoria Cross is to not given out as easily or often. That said, anyone with a VC or MoH have done something amazing, may no future service people be put in positions where they get nominated for either.

Brilliant! This resonates with me and my family, as my great grandfather was a POW in the Anglo Boer war of South Africa. Our family lost everything as my great grandmother, and all her children were placed in a British Concentration Camp. Many Boer Families were forced into poverty, starvation, suffering and torture. Women were also raped by some British troops. Both my great grandparents died shortly after the war and the family farm was stolen by the British and gifted to Boer traitors who sold out to the British. The irony was that my grandfather and some of his brothers were conscripted to serve the British during the First World War and their sons, my uncles served in the second world War. Myself and my brother and many of my cousins served to defend South Africa against Communism on the Angolan, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana borders.

Agree, brilliant movie. Not dissimilar to the appalling Dutch treatment of natives in the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia where my wife's great-grandmother was raped and treated as a slave. Even much later in the Dutch colonial wars post WW2 this continued as evidenced by the trials in Groningen in Holland trying to cover this up: "Young conscript soldiers, acting under orders, put numerous hamlets to the torch and butchered men, women and children. In the trial Mr Boomsma referred to the most notorious atrocities committed by the Dutch in Indonesia over Christmas 1946 in the south Celebes."

Martin, I'm sorry for your losses but some justice was served. The husband of one of the many families Kitchener starved to death and escaped death. That man migrated to America, got into the Martine service, and signed on to an English ship that so happened to have on board Lord Kitchener who was en route to the UK to supervise that country's conduct of WWI. The aforementioned sailor made a pact with the Germans and informed them of Kitchener and his staff's whereabouts. Before a U-boat torpedoed Kitchener's ship they tossed out a life raft for the informant who made good his escape. Kitchener's staff in all went to the bottom of the North Atlantic. The war criminal was still at attention when he went to the bottom. As he drowned I think he knew why he was killed in retribution for all the evil he caused to Boer families during that war. He got what he deserved as all bastards do in the end. 🥶😵
@johnbobson15572 жыл бұрын
@@catholiccrusader5328 As an Irishman Kitchener's death has led to many conspiracy theories, one being HMS Hampshire was blown up by the IRA. Evidence seems to be the route was changed at the last minute by Admiral Jellicoe and Hampshire hit a mine on route to negotiate with the crumbling Tsar on the Eastern front. After the defeat of Boer conventional forces, the defeat of Boer 'hit 'n run' Kommandos was by a scorched earth policy and interning the families, and indeed today crushing the racist Boers would now be considered a war crime. It's a difficult one as you don't win wars by being nice, which I guess is why the West has lost every conflict lately. He is lauded in the Sudan for abolishing slavery and as a fluent Arabic speaker he considered himself Egyptian! I don't think 'Hearts & Minds' campaigns existed then and I believe the late Queen Elizabeth apologised for atrocities carried out by British & Australian forces during the Boer Wars in 1999. All in all, a stain on history.
