notes i made Act 1 Scene 7 soliloquy-an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers .Macbeth puts forward an incredibly logical & convincing argument as to why he shouldn't kill his king ."If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done quickly" - 2 interpretations 1- if murder has to be done, should be done fast to get it over & done with - this would show reluctance on Macbeth's part, he simply wants to get this terrible deed done with & shows no blood lust 2- if it's all done & finished w/ the murder of Duncan , then I'd do it as soon as possible - here, he's worried about what comes after the murder, he admits these deeds often cause knock-on effects & is worried that the murder of Duncan will cause a chain of events out of his control - foreshadowing (murdering Duncan eventually brings about his downfall) .Macbeth's argument against the murder is so compelling, he shouldn't kill him as he's his king, his relative, a guest in his home, he's been a great King, he's loved & respected by all so killing him would cause a terrible reaction from the people of Scotland .he says he has no good reason to kill Duncan "no spur" except his ambition (spur-metallic sharp object used to kick a horse to make it go) >he's talked himself & the audience out of it >structure's clever as now Lady Macbeth walks in .Macbeth decides we will proceed no further in this business, Lady Macbeth destroys his resolve & all his convincing arguments in less than 50 lines of dialogue .Macbeth the warrior, the fearless leader in battle is absolutely verbally battered & destroyed by his wife .she tackles him in many techniques >inconsistent, changes his mind often >uses love for her against him, he doesn't love her if he won't do this >he's no better than someone who's drunk all the time, deciding things when he's hungover then changing their mind >challenges his manhood "When you durst do it, then you were a man" most effective as Macbeth's entire reputation is founded upon his bravery & courage .he has no answers to these attacks & the entire play hinges on 4 words "if we should fail?" >this isn't him arguing against the murder but looking for her to take the brains, he wants her to tell him the plan rather than decide anything himself .he's completely under her spell .the final words in this scene echo the theme of deception established in earlier scenes .after attempting & failing to stand up to his wife he says "false face but hide what the false heart doth know" - last line furthers the theme of appearance vs reality

The whole image being ironic to the quote is because, as he says, the quote means that his actions will cause a chain of events. When you hit a ball in snooker the ball causes other balls to move, hence the chain of events.

@ryanhassan86213 жыл бұрын
But I thought of it like this: If the man hits the ball into the hole he wouldn’t win. Like with Macbeth if he murders Duncan he wouldn’t just get the crown he would have to cover his deed by 100s of other bad deeds like the man would have to hit all the other balls into the holes to win.

Handy last minute revision tip - , im watching these 1 act per night with my copy of macbeth, and making a quick mindmap to summarise the act and get down key themes and quotes. Takes about half an hour to an hour so it's not too heavy, and this is from an A1 procrastinator too.

I don't think the events of the play are all Lady Macbeth's and the witches's fault. I think it's also Macbeth's fault for letting what his wife thinks of him take over his life.
@mysticalgoat32122 жыл бұрын
I know this was four years ago but my GCSEs start are on Tuesday and i agree. He is responsible for his own actions and if he really did have such an honourable nature like Lady Macbeth says then he wouldn't have been able to kill Duncan and the fact that his wife questioned his masculinity shouldn't persuade him to murder.

The picture is of an amazing huge underground salt mine in Roumania - this has been mined for thousands of years but has now been made into a tourist attraction. You can go there. Salina Turda However the link to Macbeth it has been linked to a massive corruption scandal by the elite. Maybe it s linked to this - overweaning ambition and corruption

If Macbeth kills the the king why would he be king because you said in your previous videos that the king chose a person who will be king after him and that was Malcom
@mrbruff Жыл бұрын
Malcolm was indeed named heir, but he fled in fear for his safety. Macbeth then seized the throne in his absence.

revision cards - a quote with missing words on one side and on the other side there is the full quote - see if you can fill in the words before flipping the card/paper. The ones that you get wrong, put them in another pile and only go through them until you get all of them right.
