Such a wonderful composer, totally underrated, so little performed, what a shame...all you hear now is Ades and Benjamin, McMillan....Walton...just look at him...so quiet and calm, listen to his music.....just ravishingly exuberant! Long live Walton!

One of the great composers of the 20th century. Impeccable work, always from the heart with a top-shelf technique to match it.

I can never quite fathom out Walton's attitude to the post of "M.Q.M. " ( Master of The Queen's Music) On the one hand I heard that if he was ever offered the post he would 'Run a mile' and on the other he that was miffed that although he had written music for The Coronations of both King George VI and The present queen, when Bax died, they gave the title to Sir Arthur Bliss. I do know that when Bliss died they subsequently gave the post to Australian Malcolm Williamson and on hearing that news Walton perked up with the remark "They gave it to the WRONG Malcolm!" (He thought that his old pal Malcolm Arnold should have been offered the post).
