After an injury to his ring finger on the set of a film, he developed an infection that resulted in amputation. Furthermore, he later requested that the bones be removed from his hand to achieve a more natural appearance apposed to the traditional nub with an obvious space between the surrounding digits. He would jokingly call it his "Mickey Mouse Hand".

Never knew he spoke with a lisp. I think lot of creative people are kind of attention deficit or lacking some thing but excelling in others. Would have been an interesting career I think. For someone who didn't do it.
