I have seen incredible lathe work many times - but your work pushes all boundaries and I love watching your work - you are always showing me something new - thanks for sharing this video!

Thank you Phil, but in all honesty Im inspired by many great woodturners.

You did a great job in what I call a "Design Opportunity" for the recovery of your flutes. These techniques certainly seperate the men from the boys and you are commended.

I think your project is spectacular even with the little mishaps. It is a stunning platter. I loved it.

William hi and what an interesting approach. I love the fact that you talk through the issues which is very helpful to someone like myself who is also working with Paul Howard's jig etc.

Very interesting and informative video William. For what it's worth I think the "rescue" left you with a superbly unique, and beautiful piece. That crackle effect is quite amazing. Take care Mike

Thanks Mike. Im going to do this again in a week or two when Ive found some more sycamore, run out! The crackle glaze effect credit to some guy called Furini, you may of heard of him ;)

Yet again, it is great to see the issues as well as the successes. The fact you only had 6 iterations on the front isn't a failure. It's a feature. Anyone who hadn't watched this video wouldn't have known you meant to do more. PS: I realise that i am a bit late to the channel but I promise I will catch up.

Curious on the pivot joint ? Fixed to the bed ways ?
@WilliamHuntLatheCraft6 жыл бұрын
Garry Brpwine Garry, thanks for your question. Yes, in this case the swivel base was screwed directly to the improvised base on top,of the lathe. Before I didn’t do this and relied solely on screwing batons to restrict movement of router. I found this unsatisfactory so will employ both on future projects.

Aloha William! I've been such a great fan of Nick Agar over the years and was blown away with his fluting on the larger pieces. Needless to say, your video's got me so excited about the jig that I contacted Paul about the purchase of his jig. He said he can't ship to the states (Hawaii) because someone with another patented fluting jig threatened to sue him. By the way, it doesn't come close to the Howard jig. Do you how I might get my hands on one? I might even be able to sweeten the deal with some Koa.

I'm wondering if making half as many flutes would make them stronger and able to stay in one piece when fluting the other side. Nice video! I am now a subscriber!

No doubt ir would, but aesthetically, not so pleasing for me at least.

Great videoes. Made me order a jig from Paul Howard. Can't wait to try it out in a systematic and creative way like you do. I do have a question but not about the jig. Do you order you logoinserts from somewhere? Or are the homemade? My pyrography skills are far from great and yourlogo inserts just look so professional
@mmgross1445 жыл бұрын
Without knowing your planned end result, I wouldn't call that a failure at all! By the way, as someone who has used a crackle glaze professionally, that product applied over a smooth sealed surface will usually achieve a similar effect. The technique used in applying the base coats and in the crackle glaze will determine the crackle pattern.
@WilliamHuntLatheCraft5 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, thanks for your comments. Crackle glaze new to me but I love the effect, I'll do some more experimenting in due course.
