I'm sorry to say, but after watching the initial video when you upgraded your Fathers LC and the tune it was running, this was always going to be the outcome. The comments showed I wasn't the only one who thought so. It's all a learning experience. even if it is an expensive one. Anyway, good luck.

After watching your videos, I'm very grateful of many possible scenarios to take in my mind, for example mine it's an 181.000 km and very well keep engine, I've only considered basic upgrades "only", improve manifold exhaust and pipe, improve air filter and snorkel, and finally improve only intercooler , any recommendation will be keep in consideration... regards.

Big ends are the first thing u should check. No point ringing it's neck if it's gonna throw a rod. At 600 + thou thats a no brainer. Just like trying to boost a Hz beyond its limits. I've been down that road. :-(

Tuned in Bunbury? Not the first, they blew up a 1HD-FT new build with new everything including bearings in it on the dyno not long back. Drove there ok for the tune, after installation of the bench run & rebuilt motor. They red lined a brand new rebuilt motor on the dyno before even hooking up the dyno gauges being total f/whits, “warming it up”. 🙄 Put a rod through the block, just like this.

Good luck with the final solution, looks like it needs a full transplant? I used jh Southcott in Adelaide for my 1hz p, they were perfect. The spalling of the lower end bearings would show up in the oil for sure, any signs of it when doing oil changes? Oil sampling is expensive but the preventive benefits are worth it

hard to tell from the video but the snapped rod almost looks like there is a bend in it? Would be interesting to see what it looks like with the rest of it stripped, not convinced worn bearings will cause this, in most cases worn bearings will spin before it throws a rod, possibly hydraulic locked from or dropped a valve would be my guess however stranger things have happened, keen to see the rest of this series

Good insight, unfortunately with journal bearings the increases load / forces placed on the oil fluid film can be rather excessive especially when the clearances have increased over time. Having one of these engines myself they are one of the strongest around and non common rail 🥳 but parts do need to be replaced. Best of luck with the rebuild 👍
@deanburrows3504
@deanburrows3504 2 жыл бұрын
If the engine failure was due to big end bearing failure, the broken conrod bearing area would have been flogged out along with the crank journal. Rods dont break until the big end bearing welds to the crank journal. You also would have heard the knocking for a few minutes before the rod let go.The broken rod bearing area and crank journal were in good condition therefore the failure was due to the conrod breaking mid-length. The bearing damage would have been a result of running the engine with low oil pressure following the breakage (oil pump cant maintain pressure with a missing rod). Id be keen to see if the head dopped a valve causing the rod breakage. If not, atleast we know the torque limit of 1hdfte rods.

Hey mate, the FTE is a bit funny in that it doesn’t actually have glow plugs. There is a glow screen in the crossover pipe. It’s a squared section with a heat element inside it. Hope this helps 👍

Never seen a bearing cause a rod to break. Generally rods break from detonation or a rod bolt failure. The bearing damage you show would have been after the rod went through the block and it ran with shards of metal and no oil pressure. When bearings are done they spin in their housing giving that bearing knock noise. At least you have and excuse for a built engine now 🤫
@4x4dan26
@4x4dan26 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there is no way a big end bearing caused a rod to snap and go out the block maybe to many revs yes I think you should go back to the drawing board in 20 years off diesel mechanic I’ve never seen a big end do that sorry
