6:35 So true. There’s an additional type of separation occurring here - a juxtaposition separating the monolithic, hard, indivisible, unyielding, constant, impassive (yet beautiful) associations we tend to stitch to mountains from its antithesis: the fragile, living, reaching, softer, seeking, sensitive associations we tend to tether to trees. Which is further amplified in this instance by the delicate hanging moss & the manner in which the tree is reaching over the river in search of light. You’re channel/videos/& photography are not only so incredibly beautiful, but also incredibly informative. It’s appreciated. Much respect to you. also 3:32 hahaha

So loved this video Will, you are a great teacher. The beauty of Fiordland is jaw dropping, and the snow adds those extra layers of beauty. Thank you for putting the camera settings into the video. That is really helpful. Hoping to get back down there soon and maybe even do one of your workshops. That would be a dream come true. Thanks Will and Dylan.

This came randomly for me and I’d clearly missed this one. Loved this adventure with Dylan and definitely made me want to get back to NZ but also shoot with you too. I’ve never forgotten your advice to keep moving. While in the Dolomites, I’d see so many people with a tripod set up in one place for sometimes over an hour!! Meanwhile, there am I running all around, and switching lenses as the light changes. Love your work Will.

Awesome conditions William. I love that you go with the flow of nature and see what unfolds. I learn't the hard way a couple years ago I was set on a photo in the fog and drove past a special photo of the tops of vineyards forming rows of crosses and nothing else. I didn't stop and have never seen it again despite going back many times as it's in my local area of Hawkes Bay in the North Island. Love your vibe and images.

Great stuff Will … you are so right with being spontaneous… those are the moments when you find something special that was not planned ! This I have experienced many times .. planning a shoot is sometimes a bad thing .. as you said it blocks your imagination from what else is available around you at the moment instead of just focusing on a particular image in mind . How I wish to photograph such places like this .. one day I shall take the leap of faith and come your way . Stay well Will . Greetings from Perth !

Great video and awesome scenery. I only know it in summer but the snow has something to it. You're so right to not get fixated on one particular shot - you'd miss so many great shots that come up unexpectedly. Quick question: do you shoot without a tripod? Even those 0.5" slow water shots?
@WilliamPatinoPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks Brigit. Yeah, no tripod for me unless it’s astro. You’ll see that in all my videos. I just personally prefer not using one and with modern cameras with ibis, I’ve found I can get shutter speeds I like, focus stack etc all hand held. Nothing wrong with using a tripod though if you need one. I still encourage my workshop clients to use one especially do they don’t have ibis. It’s always good to look for the comp before setting the tripod up though, in my opinion. Then you’re not settling. Cheers.

Awesome scenery and very interesting video, William! There's one thing I still can't figure out about your process though (and apologies if you have already explained that). Can you clarify how you can successfully focus stack without using a tripod? Been shooting landscape for 8 years so far, and I have always found quite challenging doing that without a tripod. So I was kinda wondering which is the approach you use in situations when that is required.
@WilliamPatinoPhotography Жыл бұрын
Hey mate. No, there’s no need, especially with the ibis we have these days. Two of the images shown in this were focus stacked. I just developed this workflow several years back. I much prefer it. Allows me to move freely in the landscape and just be in the moment. Cheers.
@Dr86Jones Жыл бұрын
What a magic place! Amazing photos also. Thanks for the tips, really appreciate! I have one question William, how do you keep your gear safe of fungus on this conditions? Can you give some tips? i had fungus problems in the past when photograph in snow. I Keep my gear in my camera bag with silica gel when not in use, but its not working... i had small fungus again in last few years :(
@WilliamPatinoPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunately I don’t have any advice, as I’m pretty rough with my gear and certainly don’t do anything special to protect it whatsoever 🥴 in saying that, I’ve never really had many issues with fungi or moisture surprisingly. Sometimes I dry my gear out in front of the fire when I get home but that’s about it!
@georgebowden6748 Жыл бұрын
Hi Will, only recently come across your channel & find the videos so helpful for a "Happy Snapper" like myself. One question mate, I notice that a lot of your shots use quite a slow shutter speed but I see no signs of tripods/monopods, how do you do it mate, when that's so difficult for an "old fart" like myself. Keep them coming mate Cheers from Oz
@WilliamPatinoPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks George! Just use a tripod mate. I don’t need one due to the great ibis on modern mirrorless cameras. I’ll still use one for astro though obviously but otherwise it’s been several years. Doesn’t really matter either way if you need one or not. Thanks for the support :)
@danielhighkin4599 Жыл бұрын
Great stuff. Question. You use a Tamron 24-70 midrange lens. Why not a Sony lens?
@WilliamPatinoPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. The Tamron is 1/3 the price of Sony but still high quality. I'm not loyal to any brand, I'll use whatever gets the job done in the most economic way. Cheers!
