@protegelin. It is not about that. It is about being aware and learning. I don't think that tourist has a malicious intent by telling us about the scams. We understand that every person will take pride of their country. As they say: "Semangat nationalisma" - if I got that correctly. Every countries have their own form of scams. In California we are being scam by people from Nigeria, India, Russia (via phone and online), and by our local people. I work in technology and will always willing to learn about all scam techniques that are becoming increasing sophisticated. I want to learn as much as I can so that I don't be a victim and can also help me advise or alert others at my job. Same thing when I travel. Just a month ago I traveled to both Vietnam and Malaysia. I made sure I learn all the scam techniques being used in Vietnam since I have never been there before. I'm more familiar with Malaysia as I have traveled there many more times. A few years ago, I was at the Alor Star police station. I heard a heart ranching conversation of a lady that was scam by a local person pretending to be from their local bank. Unfortunately she fell for it and lost a lot of money. I was heart broken for her. Scam happens everywhere simply because in every country, you will find good and bad people. The important thing is for all of us to be educated about it.

Always ask if those scammers are locals or not..locals would rarely show themselves doing scam mostly online or phone..those daring ones usually foreigners

Another type of scam is that someone come to you telling you that he had been pick-pocketed and lost all his money and ask you to give some money for him to go back to his hometown and some meal money. I met quite a few of them

I’m very suspicious of everyone. I no longer answer the phone and distrust all emails. As for random people intruding on my day in public - I’d just say “yes I know I am - I can spot scammers a mile away” Have a good day!

There are other scammers who look like locals (ethenic chinese), but are actually foreigners too. Safe travel.

You know, some yrs ago almost no heard of scammers. After influx of foreign students esp frm Africa countries..then it started. Nowadays the were rumours saying local people also involved..and hundrefs of million lost..this was really bad and shameful..should not hsppen in Malaysis

I happens everywhere. Before I started traveling I remember getting emails from Nigerian royalty asking for my help moving their money. All I had to do was provide them with my banking details and I would make millions. That scam isn't too popular now but I still see it occasionally.

The first scam ("Lucky Man") that you mentioned has been going on since the 1990s. I've encountered this twice in PJ. Both times they end up asking for some money. Since it happened to my brother-in-law before and he told me about it, I was prepared. I listened through their stories and politely said no when they asked for money.

I remember first time i scammed by a Sikh fella from Bombay(he told).He gave me a small piece of paper and asked to write any type of flower... Then he rightly told me the name of the flower,and to my surprise it true... I gave him rm10....

😮 Yes , that's why all countries have their prisons , meaning that , all countries have their criminals & all countries have their mental hospitals , meaning that , all countries have to deal with their mentally unstabled people! Low crime does not mean no crime! Many beggers & petty thieves are from foreign countries to prey for their victims , taking advantage of the relative safety of the host countries like Singapore & Malaysia , even in Europe there are these pick-pocket groups operating in major cities & many are from other EU countries taking advantage of the host countries' relative safety! In Asian countries , there these groups using black magic hynopsis that can rendered the victims to withdraw money at the ATM to them just by talking to them , so always just say Thank You & Sorry have to rush & quickly walk away from well dress men or women asking or saying surprising things about us! @@InternationalBigshot Google Authenticator was introduced by Google in 2010, a good 10 years before the technology industry finally start talking about securing accounts using using 2FA (2 Factor Authentication) or MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication). My work place finally got serious about all this starting in 2020. I was already using it a good 10 years before that.

Sadly scammers both online and via telephone or on the streets are foreigners coming to Malaysia and doing these scams on their tourists visa and then overstaying. Even beggars nowadays are foreigners too. some Malaysians are also involved in scamming by working for scammer but mostly online or telephone.

Yes, bumped into this Indian guy by McDonald's Sect 14,came up to me, said he lost his wallet, needs some money to get back to KL, took out Rm 2 n pointed him to the bus stop, he turned around asked for Rm 20 to get a cab instead. I just turned around the other way n walked with him screaming in the background. There went a cup of nescafe tarik, 😢

No. I have worked in The UK and in several years of working there, I never saw these kind of scams at all and never 'Lucky man' scam. They are not so naive. And by the way, this KZbinr is an American. I have also worked in SIngapore and Malaysia. I had the China Buddhist monk scam AND the Lucky man cheats. I just ignore them and walk on. Silence is best. In KL I'd get Malaysian men, follow then walk into the place I'd be eating and a suspicious, local stranger would then enter my private space in the open cafeteria/restaurant/kopitiam, pull up a chair, light up a cigarette and ask me ''where are you from''. I knew this was another scam so I'd just say 'What do you want?!'' They usually leave quickly but pretend they were working for the local government in order to pretend they were not after money. I suspect they were trying to take me to a cheating scam bar like they do in Istanbul, Turkey.
