Well Done Willie Apiata. I Live in Britain and i am Not in the Military but i Support All What You Brave Men and Women Do in this Sick and Twisted World that we Live in. Thank You New Zealand and God Bless You.

I came to watch this because I've just read an article about Willie Apiata and wanted to know more. I really didn't expect him to be such a simple, humble man - and I mean this in the best possible way. I guess sometimes the phrase "never meet your heroes" doesn't apply. I also loved how his superior stood by him and looked after him in difficult and overwhelming moments. Both of them are great examples of how kiwis stand up for each other in time of need.

A true hallmark of an SAS soldier...someone who is unassuming, quiet and humble...but then there is the other side...

Respect for some cunt sent to kill the Brotherhood in a country that had never threatened his own in an illegal war? Get real. He's dishonorable to the letter, and nearly got a cap in his ass for it. Such a shame , don't give him a medal---send him back and lets see him fight the Mujahideen with his bare hands. He wants to be a hero , let him prove it.
@pagandude19 жыл бұрын
It was an illegal invasion. Agreed? When I speak of the Brotherhood I think of all the woman children and elderly inclusive killed by stay bombs---that's who. I'm a Caucasian Muslim and a very proud one. I would be very interested to have an extended discussion with you about this . How can we achieve that?

Pretty sure your dreaming. Who "won" the war in Afghanistan again? New Zealand? I don't think so fool.

To think that people like Willy can achieve something of this magnitude and still view them selves as being "just Willie Apiata" makes me very proud to be a New Zealander. Hes so humble he doesn't seem to know what to do with himself..

Every recipient of the Victoria Cross exhibits the exact same qualities of quiet humble personality and never claim to be in any way special or brave, or a hero. They are very commendable individuals.

Willie Apiata. A man like Albert Jacka, Audie Murphy or Alvin York. A great hero, and modest too. The VC of NZ is up there with the MOH and the heroic deeds of Canadians at Vimy Ridge.

Maybe someone could explain to me why his awarding of the VC was made public in the first place? Shouldn't it have been kept secret along with his identity? Either way he is an impressive individual who embodies everything I love about NZ!

Unlike members of the UK's Special forces. Our brothers in arms in both the SAS(R) & NZ SAS tend too as one vet succinctly alluded to it '' to win gold & wear it'' &, as such, are positively encouraged by their political masters ( Head sheds) in alluding to their heroic endeavors in public . However, whilst such acts of courage & Bravery warranting the awarding of the V.C. are of course laudable. It goes without saying that such servicemen ( presently limited to male soldiers of such elite regiments ) will , one presumes, have had their anonymity & status compromised by virtue of said resulting publicity on NZ & Australian media. Where as similar actions by British SAS/SBS would be limited to the recognition within their own limited & exclusive communities. or in camera.

Bloody reporters asking stupid insensitive questions! Obviously, not a memorable time in the frontline! The medal is very symbolic of that event. Is it really a good thing in that respect? I guess winners keep it well hidden away and forget about it!

Anyone else think he looks a little like Freddie Mercury
@swanningaround16 жыл бұрын
What a hero. These guys are modest, like Audie Murphy was. Quite a difference from Olympic Gold Medal winners who are usually never modest, for example, the arrogant displays of USA top athlete LeBron James.
@MrZzr1213 жыл бұрын
It does seem a sorry stunt as how is it possible that of the 4000 NZ men who served in vietnam none received the VC. Does this mean that they were not brave enough to put their lives at risk to save a mate. The gallant men of the vietnam war should be pissed about this award. Bommer 321 has nailed it in one
@0Zolrender014 жыл бұрын
hes like any other VC winner...was shit scraed at the time..but got over it and thought of his mates and made sure he did his duty. and thats all any ANZAC has done. got shit scared. recovered. made sure mates were ok. and got on with it. the VC guys were jus t that and a bit more. i hasen to add if i was asking them were they shit scared, id bet them to tell me yes. courge is not the absece of fear, its the ability to conquer it....or maybe just put it aside for a few moments.

Not very "RELUCTANT" has two books out one for kids and one for adults, a TV spot and DVD etc..... anyway its not a VC its an NZVC a relatively new award. And as he himself says he just did his job if he had done anything else he would have been RTUed. I wonder if he stil smokes dope and gets so pissed his is legless like he was on Ex swift eagle Tasman Exchange in 1993 when he was in 6 Hauraki

Sounds like the guy that signed up to the now defunct Mp. Net with the intention of bad mouthing Apiata. One of the moderators, supposedly a stablemate of Willie’s lols , rightly stated that his private life was not why he was awarded the NZVC.
