This how the black church use to give God the highest praise. We must return back to this type of worship.

What is amazing is that the movie, "Say Amen Somebody," debuted in 1982; 38-years ago and you can still feel God's annointing through Willie Mae Ford Smith's voice. It is very surreal. These saints of yesterday were truly filled with the Holy Ghost.

This what's call HAVING REAL CHURCH..NOT PLAYING CHURCH; and sung by a Real Grandma not the ones you see today. Ppl are grandparents at the age of 37 or 40 when. Remember when a mother of the church or Real Grandma use to get up and sing. Your heard the ANOINTING in her, you heard the sound of someone who knew pain, trails & tribulations. In her singing you FELT her experiences in life with family, raising kids, worrying about grandkids, being poor & being treated 2nd class b/c of your race. And in her singing despite all she been thru; she continued to trust in God & call on him. Her singing was her testimony and out of nowhere tears would flow out your eyes..WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE GRANDMAS AND THE CHURCH?..Grandmas back then even had grandma names like Willie Mae Ford Smith, Susie Mae, Ida Mae, MaryAnne. Now grandma names be Acquanet, Shaquonet and she be in the club with her kids..And now in church the preachers want you to worship him , not God..Times have truly change.

I can feel the consuming fire of the Holy Ghost n that service! The atmosphere was charged with praise to God! I was moved to tears cuz I could feel God's presence ! Praise God for her and when I get to Heaven, I hope to see her as we walk the streets of gold over in that Holy City!

In 1989, I was in the 6th grade at 59th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA. I remember this old saint named Mother Nellie Wade. She was 94-years old at the time and she attended Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. I would go to Mother Wade's home after school for prayer, bible study and wisdom. I would walk in Mother Wade's presence and I could feel the Holy Spirit within her and in our presence. It didn't occur to me back then, but Mother Wade was born in 1895; 30-years after slavery. Mother Wade was first generation freed slave. It was an amazing experience and Willie Mae Ford Smith reminds me so much of Mother Wade.

Going to see this movie with friends is one of my fondest memories from the 80's. I still enjoy watching this video now (2021) as much as I did then, maybe even a little bit more. Now that my walk with CHRIST is stronger now than it was then, I can more readily identify with the song Mother Smith is singing. Can't wait to see JESUS and my loved ones who have gone on before.

Love Canaan Land, but what happened to Singing In My Soul?
@denverrayne90163 жыл бұрын
Here's the lyrics to the entire recorded song. There's a full version on KZbin too from the album. I am bound for Canaan land. To that happy golden strand. There I shall receive a blessing for the work I've done below. There I'll meet my loved ones gone on. To receive their just reward. What a meeting that will be. When we gather around the throne. Some are coming from the east. Some are coming from the west. For there's many ways to enter. To that bright celestial shore. Tho you enter from the north. Tho you enter from the south. You'll be in that great reunion. When we gather around the throne. For Father Christ our brother. And the prophets all above. Will be waiting there to welcome. Me to that sweet happy land. I'll be glad to meet the prophets. And the others gone on before. What a meeting that will be. When we gather around the throne. [Repeat]
