Im so fortunate to have been rooted in traditional gospel music. Im only 36 years old, but as a kid in the early/mid 90's, this form of gospel music was very much alive!! If only we could go back in time to witness this type of church one more time.... I don't think I'd want to come back lol

...she had a big, BOOMING contralto. And was THE PRIMARY INFLUENCE, for legends that came after her, like Mahalia and Inez Andrews. To say she was a pioneer is almost an understatement. I think a better description of her greatness, is that she and Thomas Dorsey are the parents of what became "modern day gospel"..which is to say, she and Dorsey are responsible for bringing black gospel into the mainstream, where it is now regarded as a legitimate, popular genre of American music. Willie Mae Ford-Smith, was a music GIANT.

I learned this song as a KID from the movie...I was into the Winans and the Clark Sisters at the time. Early 80s. The idea that kids can't relate to traditional music is RIDICULOUS. They relate to whatever you teach them if you relate it to THEM, and keep their current favorites in the repertoire. I been singing this song since I was a KID and it was an OLD song then. We need to stop limiting our arsenals. Having one of these under your belt at the right time is an advantage.

I was just talking to my sister about that. Im not a big fan of contemporary gospel music that's out now. It doesn't move me.. But I love that old gospel music that remind you of when "Grandma was living". When she sang, you heard the trials & hard times she been thru in her voice & yet after all that, she still smiled & said Thank You Lord. Back when you can tell who was a preacher from who needed preaching too. Now EVERYBODY LOOK & ACTING THE SAME. And it's not that it's wrong or right that Gospel music has change, there's a few good songs here and there; but TO ME; there's a change in "Church" & "Gospel Music". It was a certain level of unspoken respect ppl had for the Church.. Now days it seem like the same foolishness you see on the streets you can find in the Church. And no disrespect, its just MY opinion.

Just a tragedy that Willie Mae Smith wasn't really recorded until she was well into old age. There are only a couple of mid-century recordings that give us an idea of what she sounded like in her prime. She had a massive contralto that was developed before most churches had a pa system.

For salvation, we just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They were baptized in water for the removal of sins and filled with the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38! Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled and rising again from the dead and walking in the newness of life. That's what Acts 2:38 is. We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ... Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT a man, be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD. We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed. One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans. Our salvation has to match up with the scriptures and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away. Eternity is TOOO long to be WRONG! st, John 5:39, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38. The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church. It's better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Don't get Titus 3:5 mixed up with James 2:14-26, about WORKS. One is a WORK of your OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR GOOD DEEDS and the other is a WORK OF FAITH. Titus 1:16, They profess that they know God; but in WORKS they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. God bless you

That is what you call worshiping the Lord That's what you call a worship service where people are being blessed and fully clothed, with no skin and hanging breasts showing. There's no cussing pastor here, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Juanita Bynum, Mary Mary , vickie Winans here trying to collect awards and money with their fancy clothing and jewelry with their nakedness body and also There's no ( fake Madea Tyler Perry southern Christian woman here either. ) This is a church service where people came to worship God in spirit and true 👍 and you can see it all in them.
