The toughest race in America - running 103 stories straight up! Running up the Sears Tower (Willis Tower) in Chicago.
.
The Sears Tower may no longer exist in name, but it's structure still stands 1,454 feet above the streets of Chicago. In 2009 this building saw a new name, The Willis Tower, and a new race SkyRise Chicago. The best stair climb athletes from the US, Canada, Mexico and Germany were on hand in the most competitive battle this stairwell has ever seen.
.
Special thank you to Mark Trahanovsky and West Coast Labels for helping to make this video possible and for promoting this amazing sport.

At 8:26 I started to get emotional. I know so many elderly that are bed ridden and these men are accomplishing the impossible at their age. God Bless You

Now let's see 'em race up the tower on pogo sticks! :-D Seriously, there wasn't a fat person in the bunch. As a portly fellow myself, I don't know whether I could climb up to the SECOND FLOOR of my local Sears store in under 15 minutes. Perhaps I should start giving the elevators and escalators a break, and take up stair-climbing. :-)

Wow what an amazing accomplishment! Most I've climbed straight up is 42 flights in Tampa, today I climbed 47 in repeats of 16, 15,8 & 8 for training to climb 25 November 3rd. Wish me luck!

@2012TheAndromeda the observation deck is on floor 103- that's where the race ends. It's either 108 or 110 floors/stories depending on who is counting, lol.

I'm from Atlanta, Georgia! It's actually pretty easy eating raw in Atlanta when it comes to getting produce. Community wise a lot of people just don't get it yet. They will though eventually! We even have a raw food restaurant now.

Yesterday we did a stair climb race at work, it's a challenge they do annually. We ran up 25 floors, I finished it in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. The first place here ran up 103, 4 times what I did in just double the time, wow

Just did 20 Fenchurch Street in London on Saturday - just trying to hold 2 steps a second all the way up (I double stepped and pulled up the rail like I was rope climbing). Finished in 7:31 as I dropped my pacing metronome down 4 stairs that cost me a few seconds.

Hi Tim Just one question. Running a tower block without the help of the bars and no rest would that be different from what i'm seeing in this video.

I do it without bars, on the street. The secret of these guys is to always using the rails otherwise you get super tired. Just check the longest stairway in Switzerland and you will see a real race.... takes more than one hour and 20, not like this 15 minutes.
