If the dealership does the loan themselves, you might get a slightly higher interest rate of like .01% up to maybe .05%. regardless, whatever quote you get from a 3rd party financial insinuation. The dealership will most likely have a higher interest rate. Those hundreds of a percentages matter I.e. (.01%) especially if your financing more, like a house or a car price 100,000+. Thats where they make the money. Because the dealership is charging you a slightly higher rate, then what they borrowed the money at, and are paying back your loan to their bank. Obviously since Lambo financial for example wants to write the loan and it might be faster and more efficient, they are borrowing money from a financial institution but have more options behind the scene because they are likely not to default if you don't pay. Yes you might get a higher rate from them, but they make a little more money on that rate and payments might be a tiny bit more but they need to pay back that loan too. Because that interest rate they borrowed the money to give to you for your rate interest rate- it is lower than what they charged you. The spread is their bread and butter. He is right, some banks won't take on the rest, however, those same banks that won't take on the risk from you directly, they will write the loan at a lower rate to the dealership and they will mark it up slightly and write you the loan.

Working for banks as long as I did I always looked at these big purchases as negative.. But Will has it right.. buy the right ones with the right financing and don't destroy it, you can make money in exotics. Also better to not tie all your money up paying cash (invest it). If you can do both, though, congrats!

I have a solid 850 across the 3 bureau’s and I have maintained it for 3 years. The only thing I’m willing to let it dip for is a new piece of property. To buy a supercar, I’d rather use my business credit- but since I wouldn’t buy one of these - a $130,000 car being the most, I needn’t worry about those score dips.

Have great credit and still bought my '22 R8 outright. Sold two Corvettes. A C7 Z06 3LZ/Z07 and a base C5 as prices were going up. Invested it in the market. Gained a bit there. Took the money out earlier this year (Feb/Mar) as things were heading south. Paid MSRP for the R8 in Apr. Had I not taken the money out of the brokerage account and let it ride, it would have gone down nearly 20%. Instead, I bought the R8 with it that still has a resale value over MSRP. BTW - I live near you in the Galena area.

Here's another hack, Will didn't mention when listing his how to finance supercars., and I feel this is one of the top two most important thing when looking to finance a supercar or any vehicles in general and that is, Build a good friendship/trusting relationship with your dealership/salesperson (in this order). Trust me... when you have a strong bond with your dealership/salesperson it helps you achieve your dream car much easier/faster (Financing or Not). E.g. I've purchased $100k plus vehicles and every purchase my dealership waive their Doc Fee along with other fees I won't list cause I wish not to cause any issues with my dealership and or salesperson. Let's put it this way... every vehicle I own/purchased (Range Rover, Mercedes, Jaguar, Mclaren) I haven't paid MSRP, but then again I've finance or had to finance route for any of my vehicles. I understand a large percent are in my financial position, but my point is... a strong bond relationship with your dealership is "financially beneficial."

The Dealership makes money from you via the “Buy in Rate” A buy rate is the interest rate that a potential lender quotes to your dealer when you apply for dealer-arranged financing. Your dealer may offer you an interest rate that is higher than the buy rate. The rate the dealer offers you is called the “contract rate.” Sometimes the lender pays the dealer a fee for arranging the financing that is based on the difference between these two rates. Dealers may have discretion to charge you more than the buy rate, so you may be able to negotiate that interest rate. Ask the dealer if you qualify for a loan with better terms. In general, dealers and lenders are not required to offer the best rates available. You can save money over the life of the loan by getting quotes from multiple lenders, comparing offers, and negotiating for the best interest rate available to you. This could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. TIP: The dealer may offer you a higher interest rate than you can get directly from a bank, credit union, or other lender. Shop around to find out who offers the best interest rate and use that information to negotiate the best rate for you. LEARNED about this from a friend of mine that had a dealership.
